Reviewer Name and Grade: James G., 10th grade Date reviewed: July 3, 2020 The movie “Clue” is based on the popular board game that was created by Anthony E. Pratt, but was then later adapted by the popular game company “Parker Brothers” which is now owned by “”. The movie follows six characters, who are Miss Scarlet (who runs an escort service), Colonel Mustard ( a war general, and holds a security post in the Pentagon), Miss Peacock (who literally lives up to the name because of her hair, and she is a politician’s wife.), Professor Plum (a doctor who works for the UNO which is the United Nations Organization in a branch called the WHO which is the World Health Organization, and takes advantages of his patients ), Mrs. White (she has been married a few times. Her second husband was a scientist who specialized in Nuclear Physics but was a deranged lunatic who threatened to kill her in public. He is deceased her first was an illusionist. All together she had five husbands), and lastly, Mr. Green (who works for the state department, he is accident-prone, and has a personal secret.). The six characters were invited to a dinner party via a letter from Mr. Boddy. What they don’t know is that Mr. Boddy is the person responsible for blackmailing all of the characters. Each of the characters receives a box containing something that can be used as a weapon. Later the so-called “dinner party” becomes a murder mystery, and the characters including Wadsworth the butler have to figure out “whodunnit”! The setting is in a New England mansion that “Mr. Boddy” owns. The time period is in the 1950’s. The main events of film are when each of the characters arrive, when the characters split up and look for clues, and the three possible endings (two are the alternate endings, and one is what really happened).

1) How did you find the film on Kanopy (by title search, subject search, casual browsing, etc.) I found the film by casual browsing, and thought it looked interesting.

2) Did the plot (for fictional movie) or presentation of information (for documentary) keep you interested? The plot kept me on the edge of my seat! It was executed to perfection!

3) Was the pace of the film too fast, too slow, or just right? The pace of the film was kind of slow and a tad lengthy, but that was only because the movie has a lot of information about the mystery and whodunnit, and the three alternate endings.

4) What grade level(s) is this film appropriate for I think this film is appropriate for middle schoolers (5th-8th graders) and high schoolers (9th -12th graders), or even anyone who loves mystery movies, or is a fan of the classic game, Clue!

My rating: 4 stars: I enjoyed this film and found it worthwhile to watch. I thought the movie was good overall, the acting was good, and the plot was good as well, and I felt it was true to the board game, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat! The only not-so great part was the film was kind of slow, but it was understandable why the film was so slow because of the information about the mystery and the three alternate endings. This is a great family film to watch on a weekend or even on a rainy day.
