In Post-Election Era, Countable Sees Massive Growth, Expands Operations

With shout outs from Olivia Wilde, Sophia Bush, CAKE and more, the hottest civic engagement app on the market floods Capitol Hill with messages; hires award-winning journalist

WASHINGTON, DC - Now the second most installed free news app in the App Store, the civic engagement app Countable is expanding operations.

Since election day, Countable has been installed 122,000 times on iOS, gained 175,000 new users, and delivered over 785,000 messages to Capitol Hill from users looking to affect their government.

The app has been noticed, and promoted, by some of the biggest influencers on social media, from actors Olivia Wilde and Sophia Bush to the band CAKE.

Now, Countable is expanding its editorial operations, by hiring award-winning journalist Andrea Seabrook, who will join Countable as its Managing Editor.

Public radio listeners are familiar with her work as NPR’s long-time Congressional Correspondent from the US Capitol, DC Bureau Chief of Marketplace with Kai Ryssdal, and as a host of top shows, including , , The Show and . Seabrook’s reporting won her a Joan S. Barone award for coverage of the US Capitol. Seabrook was among the first journalists to leave public radio for the entrepreneurial world. In 2012, she founded DecodeDC, a site and podcast dedicated to eschewing “red vs. blue” news coverage. DecodeDC’s mission is to deepen the public’s understanding of, and engagement with, the government. In 2013, the White House named Seabrook a “Champion of Change” in recognition of this work. DecodeDC was later acquired by the E.W. Scripps Corporation.

“This is an exciting time for activism in America, and we could not be happier seeing Americans turning to Countable as the app of choice to learn about, and affect, what’s going on around them,” said Bart Myers, CEO of Countable.

“We’re especially excited to bring on someone with the credentials that Andrea has,” Myers added. “We pride ourselves on presenting non-partisan, easy-to-understand summaries of bills and issues in the news, so people feel like politics is more accessible. Andrea has done that for her entire career, from NPR to DecodeDC. So, we know our users are going to appreciate the content she’ll be generating for them.”

Founded in 2014, Countable (www.countable.us) presents users with easy-to-understand summaries of bills and issues in the news, and a means to immediately, quickly, and easily tell their lawmakers where they stand. Users can choose to have their opinion delivered via email, phone call, or video message.
