ACT Update Day We heard you! The ACT Engagement and Development Committee are proud to present you with an event that showcases the topics you told us you wish to hear about. Topics featured at our 2018 annual ACT Dietitian Update Day will include: Food allergies and intolerances, Gut Microbiome, Diabetes and Eating Disorders. Learn about the most up to date information from experienced leading professionals in each field, with opportunities to ask questions. Join us for this half-day event on Tuesday 23rd October, 2018, 1:00pm to 4:30pm at The Tradies, Dickson ACT.

1.30pm – 2:10pm Topic: Gut Microbiome Presenter: Linda Smillie

Linda is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with 25 years’ experience in hospitals, community health and private practice. Linda has run her own based private practice for over 10 years. The last 6 years she has specialised in gastrointestinal nutrition. She currently operates her private practice from GastrotrACT, a private gastroenterology clinic in Garran. Linda also has an interest in plant-based diets. She sees vegan and vegetarian clients individually and runs regular workshops on plant-based nutrition.

2:10pm – 2:50pm Topic: Food Allergies and Intolerances Presenter: Caroline Salisbury

As Canberra’s first private practitioner, Caroline has followed the development of dietetics in terms of the number and diversity of practitioners. As well as a private practice focussing on food intolerances, allergies, and gastroenterology. Caroline also employs five to cover the majority of aged care facilities in Canberra and the region.

3:10pm - 3:50pm Topic: Diabetes in Pregnancy and Case Study Type 2 diabetes Presenter: Rosemary Young and Jacqueline Sweeting

Rosemary graduated from Wollongong with MSC Nutrition and Dietetics in 1996. Additionally, in 2005 completed a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and through UTS in Sydney. Rosemary is a credentialed diabetes educator and well as an APD. Rosemary worked as a dietitian in a variety of community and outpatient services in NSW, QLD and the ACT, before joining the ACT Health Diabetes Service for about 10 years.

Jacqueline completed her Bachelor of Science at followed by a Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics at the in 2010. Additionally, completing a Graduate Certificate Diabetes Education and Management University of Technology Sydney in 2015. Jacqueline has worked for ACT Health for 8 years, initially in Acute Support, & for the past 3 years for ACT Health Diabetes service: adult and children’s service.

3:50pm - 4:30pm Topic: Eating Disorders - What Am I Missing? Presenter: Anne Embry

Anne works as a dietitian in Community Health (Women, Youth & Children’s) and also in private practice. Much of her clinical load in both positions is with people with eating disorders. She has unique experience in early intervention and community-based treatment in this space.
