The Lions and Spartans tangle on Sunday, Jan. RECORDS (as of 1/12/21) 24, at 1 p.m. Penn State’s original season opener at Rutgers on Jan. 16 was postponed.

The Penn State Nittany Lions, under the guidance of head coach , have nine wrestlers ranked by Inter- Name, Wt. Record Mat, all in the top 13. Sophomore Roman Bravo-Young heads into the opener ranked No. 3 at 133 and senior Nick Lee is ranked No. 2 at 141. Junior Jarod Verkleeren is ranked No. 10 at 149 and sophomore Brady Berge is No. 11 at 157. Donovon Ball, 184 0-0 Redshirt freshman Joe Lee is ranked No. 6 at 165 while classmate Carter Starocci is ranked No. 5 at 174. Sophomore Terrell Barraclough, 149 0-0 Aaron Brooks heads into the campaign ranked No. 3 at 184. Redshirt freshman Michael Beard is ranked No. 13 at 197 and redshirt freshman Greg Kerkvliet is ranked No. 5 at 285. THE PENN STATE YEARS Cael’s fi rst season at Penn State was solid. Sanderson led Penn State to a 13-6-1 dual meet record, much improved over the prior year’s 8-12-2 mark. After a year outside the top 10, Sanderson led the Lions back to their place among the nation’s elite with a ninth-place fi nish at the NCAA Championships and a No. 10 fi nal dual meet ranking from the NWCA Coaches. Sanderson picked up three more All-Americans (including a national fi nalist) and a Big Ten Champion in younger brother, Cyler Sanderson.

In 2010-11, Sanderson reached the pinnacle of the collegiate coaching mountain by guiding Penn State through a stunning season fi lled with records, championships and memories that thrilled the Penn State faithful.
