Like of most other genera of moths, the systematic of this genus is still in dispute, especially on the monophyly and the relationship within this genus due to the fact that genus is very varied. This genus was defined based on external characters only such as cross vein Sc-Rs present, humeral plate approximately triangular in shape and anal plate moderately long to moderately short. Therefore, the monophyly of this genus need to be evaluated based on more com- prehensive data. To clarify the monophyly of the genus Zeuzera, to reveal the phylogenetic relationships among the Indonesian species, and to establish the genetic characters of Indonesian Zeuzera, we analyzed seven species of Indonesian Zeuzera including three other species distributed around the world based on nucleotide sequence variation across a 580-bp region in the CO I gene. The results showed that the mono- phyly of Zeuzera was supported by bootstrap tests at the MP and ML tree building methods (¤95%). Genus Zeuzera was divided into two groups (A and B) with Z. borneana was excluded from the two groups and occupied at the basal node. Indonesian species was distributed into two different clades.

The Palaearctic frontier was delimited to the Arabian Peninsula (the eastern and northern parts of Arabia are attributed to the Palaearctic Region; Yemen, southwestern Saudi Arabia, and southernmost Iran belong to the Afro- tropical Region). Cossidae are highly endemic to arid areas. Some Palaearctic carpenter-moth genera penetrate to Africa southward of the Sahara Desert (an important characteristic distinguishing them from most of the other Lepidoptera). The local faunas of the Palaearctic deserts are united into 4 groups: the Sahara–Arabian–Southern- Iranian, Central-Asian–Kazakhstanian, Western-Gobian, and Eastern-Gobian. In the Eastern Gobi Desert, the fauna is the most specific; it should be considered as a separate zoogeographical subregion.     CHAPTER TEN INSECTS 10.1 The insect fauna of south central Seram The insect fauna of Seram is extraordinarily diverse and abundant. Forbes, 1885: 291, writing in his A Naturalist's Wanderings, reports that on Ambon alone insects - particularly beetles - are numerous and of great variety. By the end of the nineteenth century, Ribbe [Ribbe, 1892: 46] had recorded some 19,000 different species, including 10,000 butterflies, and reckoned to collect 300 insects daily. Today the number of certain species for all orders of insects must be many more than this. Clearly, only a very few specimens compared with the total number of known species were col- lected in the field, but even so they constitute the largest single group of specimens. Most importantly they include all common species encountered by the Nuaulu. A checklist of insect species for which specimens were col- lected in south Seram is presented in table 17. 10.2 Nuaulu categories applied to insects Nuaulu terms for insects represent the largest single group in their animal inventory and provide the ethnographer with the greatest problems in presentation and analysis. 10.2.1 makasisi popole The Nuaulu name for this predaceous insect, in AM `capung', relates to its habit of feeding on insects (such as mosquitos) immediately above fresh water, and to the touching of the surface of the water or tips of plants with its tail. Maka comes from makae (`hard'), referring to the head; and sisi, meaning 'to tap, touch or scrape'. Thus eresisi waene is 'to scrape (the) water', where ere is a pronominal vowel prefix indicating a non-human actor.

Witt Abstract Based on the study of male and female genitalia and the external habitus of Chalcidica (Duomitus) rauana Strand, 1909, the type species of the genus Alophonotus Schoorl, 1990, the genus Alophonotus is redescribed. Images of the type female, male genitalia, a new generic diagnosis, and a distribution map are given. The genus includes 13 species, widely distributed in Africa (south from Sahara) and in Madagadcar (Houlbert 1916; Gaede 1930; Pinhey 1979; Schoorl 1990; Mey 2016; Yakovlev, Sulak & Witt 2019; Yakovlev & László 2020). In rich materials on Cossidae, collected in Africa in the recent years, we found a species new to science. Its description is given in the article. Material and methods The material for this study was Cossidae specimens from private and state collections: RFC – Ralf Fiebig private collection (Rossleben, Germany), RMCA − Royal Museum of Central Africa (Tervuren, Belgium), ZSM − Zoologische Staatssammlung der Bayerischen Staaten (Munich, Germany).

It narrowly stretches from north to south and is bordered by Tanzania to the northeast, Zambia to the west and Mozambique to the south, west and east. Much of its eastern border is made up by Lake Nyasa (Malawi). The climate in the lower areas is equatorial with the monsoons extending from November through April and dry winters. Precipitation ranges from 750–1000 mm per year in the lowlands and 2000–2500 mm in the highlands.
