HISTORY Chorleywood Farm and Meeting House Farm were once part of the same estate and in 1704, were both owned by Samuel Ewer. After the land was passed through many hands, John Barnes, a wealthy stockbroker took control of the 220 acres in 1822. Ownership stayed in his family for generations and after another series of takeovers, the property belonged to Lady Russell. Lady Russell demolished the mansion and built a new one in 1898, the estate that we are familiar with today. After she died in 1936 the estate was in danger of being utilised by the Metro-land company until Chorleywood Urban District Council purchased the land for a sum of £5000 in 1939. The site was used as a P.O.W. camp during the Second World War, and is now a number of privately owned homes and public gardens.
