When Chris Lemonis stepped to the podium on June 25, 2018 at Dudy Noble Field to become the 18th head baseball coach in Mississippi Personal State’s storied history, a journey of nearly 40 years came full circle. The son of a 1973 State graduate, Lemonis resided in Starkville as a child Hometown: Myrtle Beach, S.C. and now returned to lead one of the perennial powerhouses in college baseball. Wife: Jill Lemonis One of the top recruiters and player development coaches in the country, Lemonis has seen success at every coaching stop. After helping Children: Marissa & Mackenzie Lemonis College: The Citadel, 1992 his alma mater, The Citadel, to five NCAA Regional appearances in 12 seasons as an assistant coach, Lemonis joined college teammate Dan McDonnell’s staff at Louisville and quickly turned the Cardinals into a consistent Omaha contender. After helping Louisville to seven postseason Coaching Career berths in eight years, the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year headed to Indiana 2019- Mississippi State Head Coach University to take his first head coaching job in 2015. 2015-18 Indiana Head Coach In his first season at the helm of Indiana, the Hoosiers found themselves in the NCAA Tournament and, after finishing third in the Big Ten 2007-14 Louisville Assistant Coach 2003-06 The Citadel Associate Head Coach standings during his second season, Lemonis became the first coach in program history to take IU to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments in years 1995-2002 The Citadel Assistant Coach three and four. The 2018 Hoosiers took the No. 2 seed into the NCAA Austin Regional, falling in the regional final to eventual College World Series participant Texas. Three of IU’s eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament came under Lemonis’ watch. Lemonis Year-by-Year Overall, Lemonis enters his 25th season as a collegiate coach in 2019, making three College World Series appearances as a coach, earning 15 As a Head Coach NCAA tournament berths and aiding in three 50-win seasons. His pupils have earned 25 All-America honors, 12 Freshman All-America laurels Yr. School Record Postseason 2019 Mississippi State 4-0 -- and 65 have signed professional baseball contracts, with 14 getting the call up to Major League Baseball. 2018 Indiana 40-19 NCAA Regional Owning a head coaching record of 141-91-2, Lemonis was also a part of nearly 800 wins as an assistant coach.
