Limit: 40 CODE COST CODE WALKER SOW $42 5 LEADER SO L Tuesday evening 26 February at 7.00pm Meeting at a local woolshed near Lake Roxburgh Village. Day one Wednesday Lake Roxburgh Village to Millers Flat, expected walking time of 8 hrs. A full day on the Roxburgh section of the fantastic scenic new Clutha Gold Track. The track is full of surprises as it winds along the willow lined river bank. Dredges, River views, Mining remains, orchards and more. Day two Thursday Millers Flat to Beaumont Hall. Expected walking time of 8 hours. A further full day on the middle section of the new Clutha Gold Track. This section traverses a deep gorge. Features include historic goldfield sites and remains of the Roxburgh Branch railway. Day three Friday Beaumont to Black Gully Camping Ground. Expected walking time of 9-10 hours Our hardest day over the Blue Mountains. The climb starts through farm land and then forestry before following the ridges to the summit. Descent is through native forest to the Black Gully camping ground. Limited cabins some tenting required. Day four Saturday Black Gully Camping Ground to Tapanui Racetrack. Expected walking time of 2.5 hours. Meeting up with Sandra Cain’s trail we will be walking through undulating forest roads and farmland to the racetrack. Matthew Sole has been working on the Clutha Gold Trail for a number of years. He has a wealth of knowledge about the trail and will be providing extensive commentary, insights and occasional attempts at humour. One man camera crew Antony Hamel will conduct various irreverent events. Our trail is fully catered by the Alexandra Primary School PTA. All overnight gear will be transported for you. You need to only carry a day pack on the trail. The only real climb in this trail is on the last full day of walking over Tapanui Hill The trail is for reasonably fit walkers. Distance each day is around 28km with total distance being about 85km. We aim to arrive about an hour before the parade, so you can get to your cars and change into period costume. There will be accommodation provided at Tapunui on Saturday night. Saturday dinner and breakfast on Sunday are optional extras (see registration form). ‘POMAHAKA PUDDLEJUMPERS’ – Walking Trail. Transport provided to the top of Mt Hope Road. Walk along the top of the Range above Bullock Greek to the Mt Benger Hut. Day 2 Wednesday Drop down to the Pomahaka River and follow to Crown Rock Station. Day 3 Thursday Climb up to Parasol Hill 981m and then drop down to Parasol Creek and follow to Hukarere Station. Day 4 Friday Continue to follow the Pomahaka River till it reaches Switzers Road where we will be picked up and taken to Tapanui. The final night will be in a woolshed on the outskirts of town. Day 5 Saturday Short walk into Tapanui for the parade. This trail is for very fit, boot hardened, people only. Must be able to walk up to 20kms a day over untracked high country, some steep terrain, and carry your pack with all your gear and food. The evening meal will be provided and the group will share the cooking. Accommodation is in back country huts, and a woolshed. There will be no ‘backup’ vehicle. It will be an experience of how the miners really did it. This is a non-smoking trail. ‘WHISKY GALORE ’ – Walking Trail. It's also known for the discovery of gold at Gabriels Gully in 1861. Lawrence is about an hour's drive from Dunedin. Driving through Central Otago you can see remnants of old railway tracks. Have you ever wondered where those tracks went and what's behind those hills or how long is the tunnel? Well you are about to find out as we follow some of the all new Clutha Gold Trail. Most importantly how could we go to Tapanui and not walk in the Blue Mountains with its fantastic vistas, this is your Friday treat. Tuesday evening 26 th February gathering at Lawrence for the start of our trail. Day 1 Wednesday Today we follow the new Clutha Gold Trail and go off cross country winding and twisting our way up and down and through a tunnel to Beaumont for our night’s accommodation in the Beaumont Hall. Day 2 Thursday We follow the Clutha River following tracks used by the early miners and some tracks newly formed. Later in the day we will be transported to our woolshed at Black Gully. Day 3 Friday This is your big day as we climb out of Black Gully onto the tops of the Blue Mountains. The views today are just magical. Towards the end of the day we will descend into Whisky Gully and on to our woolshed for our night of entertainment and fun. Day 4 Saturday: We continue to enjoy this wonderful vista as we walk along the base of the Blue Mountains and make our way into the Tapanui Racecourse for the grand parade at noon. A high standard of tramping fitness is required, as some days involve 6-7 hours tramping over varied terrain. Our backup team will transport your gear, but you will need to carry a daypack containing personal effects. Caterers will provide our meals and accommodation is in Woolsheds and Halls. A safe parking area is available for those wishing to leave their vehicles at the Tapanui Racecourse . A bus will be available on Tuesday to transport you to the beginning of our trail in Lawrence. A newsletter with all relevant information will be sent to participants prior to the Cavalcade. Lunch will be provided on Saturday and this is included in your trail fee. This is a non-smoking trail. Day 1 Sunday Will see us ride over medium hill/paddock country to Ash Beattie's Station at Black Rock - a reasonably moderate start to the trail for both horses and riders to get their 'sea legs’ Day 2 Monday Leave Ash's property heading to Ray McDonald's 'Castle Dent'. This day will be a biggie which will see us climb through high tussock country with some challenging spots. Day 3 Tuesday Head out from Castle Dent en-route to the Beaumont Hotel, right smack in the centre of what was previously a thriving 'gold' town. We stay here for two nights, and our day off. Today will be a reasonably big one, through tussock country, bush and forestry. Day 4 Wednesday Several options available for this day of leisure at Beaumont - Jet Boat Rides are optional (at your cost), a 'Gold' tour of Lawrence is available, with the chance of a nice Latte or other refreshments if you so desire. Tonight will be our 'knees up', with a black tie theme for the lads, and appropriate garb for the girls - keep in mind our GOLD THEME with regards to this - should be fun!! The meal will be a sit down meal at the Beaumont Pub, also with live entertainment. Day 5 Thursday Hopefully not too many nasty hangovers for the ride out of town this morning, but pack the panadol just in case!! We ride from Beaumont down the true left of the Clutha River to Tuapeka Mouth, where we board the 'Punt' - The Tuapeka Mouth Ferry, also commonly referred to as the Tuapeka Mouth Punt, was officially opened on 22 February 1896.
