Ferrari in Art – The Sporting Legacy

‘Ferrari in Art – The Sporting Legacy’ celebrates everything Ferrari. The cars, the drivers, the history and most importantly, the PASSION! Ferrari hasan unrivalled, unbridled position in the automotive world and sits in a unique place embodying the very essence of beauty, design, speed, style, class and winning. These new series of artworks by Mark Dickens in collaboration with Keith Sutton encompasses all these lauded features. Comprising 25 paintings celebrating the first seventy years of Ferrari in a sporting context we have approached drivers, owners, fans, collectors, engineers and motorsport personalities asking them to express exclusively in their own handwritten words what the name Ferrari means to them providing a very real personal insight. Mark's paintings are mixed-media works, building layer upon layer of photographic transfers, hand-made paper, gold leaf, fabric, resin and paint. For each painting, drivers and motorsport personalities were asked to express in their own words what Ferrari means to them. The quotes were then incorporated by Mark into the painting, to provide a fascinating insight into what Ferrari means to them.

British artist Mark Dickens is world renowned in F1, his work can be found in the Royal collections of H.H.Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to numerous Grand Prix circuits and collections around the world. He was commissioned by Bernie Ecclestone in 2011 to be the official F1 artist creating a painting for every Grand Prix. Dickens artwork involves collaborations with people and places which take the visual format of mixed media, building layers of photographic transfers, paper, gold leaf, fabric, paint and handwritten texts set inresin.

Acclaimed photographer Keith Sutton entered the motorsport photographic industry in 1980 and went on to establish the world’s largest independent motorsport picture agency – Sutton Motorsport Images. Keith is a published author, the winner of many photographic awards, has participated in documentaries andfilms surrounding Motorsport and from his wealth of experience is a well-known and respected name in the world of both photography and motorsport.

It’s the second time Mark and Keith have collaborated together to create such a unique, historical and authentic collection. In 2014 they created ‘World Champions in Art’ which comprised of 32 paintings, one for each Formula 1 World Champion. The collection was purchased by four-time World Champion .

For Ferrari in Art - The Sporting Legacy Keith relentlessly tracked down drivers, owners, fans, collectors, designers, engineers, and motorsport personalities and asked them to express, in their own handwritten words, what the name "Ferrari" means to them. Over 129 handwritten (never been seen before) quotes were obtained directly from the individuals and creatively transferred on to the 25 pieces of artwork, which artist Mark worked tirelessly on to create.
