Murphys Buses Board Meeting, 6.45pm will run at 1.40pm and the other buses will run at the normal time of 3.20pm. Students are welcome to remain at school and study in the Library. Thursday 27 May Year 13 Geo trip Congratulations to the students in Years 9, 10 and 11 who received awards at the recent Celebration Assemblies. These recognise citizenship and positive attitudes towards learning. Friday 28 May Year 13 Geo trip The School Ball for students in Years 12 and 13 takes place at the Ellerslie Convention Centre on the evening of Saturday 12 June. Ticket sales close on Tuesday 8 June and we look forward to a most enjoyable function. SENIOR SCHOOL BALL I wish to draw parents’ and caregivers’ attention to other functions that may occur on the night of the School Ball, either before or after. Large pre- or after ball functions are not to be held. Small, at home Saturday 12 June gatherings of friends with families are acceptable. Dates to Remember From the Principal Tena koutou katoa Thank you to the Sports Department for their organisation of our annual sports Friday 25 June exchange with Hillcrest High School, which was held here on Tuesday. The weather Senior Art Exhibition was perfect and both teams exhibited excellent sportsmanship and enjoyed the Awards evening, D6, 6pm friendly rivalry. Rosehill won the shield, breaking Hillcrest’s 5-year hold. On Wednesday, our Year 12 students participated in a one day workshop, Loves Tuesday 29 June me Not. This program is run alongside the NZ police and is designed to give young people the tools Group Photos they need to recognise the qualities needed in a healthy relationship and when to recognise when a relationship isn't healthy. Year 12 Production, PAC, 6pm The Senior Art Exhibition is on display, with the award presentations being made at 6pm this evening. The standard of work is exceptionally high, an excellent tribute to the talents of our artists. It has been an honour for the MIT Manukau City Science and Technology Fair 2011 to be part of this in celebrating and rewarding the work achieved by our young people. The work also reflected the work of schools that are promoting excellence in science and technology. For many students the fair provided an opportunity to explore authentic areas of interest. They are developing frameworks for research which they can use in vocations later in life. The fair has helped them secure a variety of scholarships and prizes, and serves as a boost for applications for places in restricted areas of study at tertiary institutions. The committee and judges were highly impressed with the standards of scientific thinking and authentic applications of the investigations undertaken. They were impressed by the high standard of presentation, ingenuity and innovative nature of those investigations. Each exhibit reflected weeks of data collection, experimentation, analysis and presentation work by students who have gone beyond expectations. We are also very proud of our Realise the Dream 2010 representative, Chris Ryan, who was selected to attend the Royal Society of New Zealand six day event in January 2011.

This is our fifteenth year as a full Regional Fair and we continue the tradition of previous years enthusiastically. For many students the fair provides a platform outside of the confines of the classroom to explore an area of interest. Past award winning participants all agree that their participation and achievements in the fair have helped them to secure a variety of scholarships and prizes, as well as boosting their applications for places in restricted courses at tertiary institutions. The successful award winners tonight represent the best of hundreds of projects in our region from nineteen participating schools. The committee and judges have been very impressed with both the high standard of presentation of work and the ingenious and innovative nature of the investigations undertaken by students. Each exhibit represents hours of toil which often extends over a number of weeks. These projects are in most cases the result of considerable input and guidance from parents and teachers.To produce work of this calibre requires a high quality of teaching and learning – I believe that the work shown here tonight reflects very favourably on the sort of good learning that is taking place in Manukau City classrooms.
