GREGORY C. CHISHOLM , SJ ~ Welcome Back! This has been an eventful Summer for both our Parish and for the . Let me give you a brief summary of the last two months on the home front and on the international front: 1. About 40 members of the Parish of St Charles Borromeo, Resurrection and All Saints travelled together in early July from Miami to Havana, Cuba and to the Bahamas. The travelers from the Parish and the visit to Cuba were a genuine delight. 2. While we were traveling we received the disturbing news of the death of our Christine Dzenyuy. Christine was a young adult member of our Parish and member of our Praise and Worship team. Several of us journeyed to Hartford to attend her funeral. 3. Cardinal Ted McCarrick, formerly of the New York Archdiocese, was accused of sexual abuse of a minor In New York when he served as a Priest here. The allegations were considered credible and he was ordered by the to be removed from public ministry. Cardinal McCarrick denies the allegation and is appealing to Rome. 4. The Parish of St Charles Borromeo, Resurrection and All Saints received two financial grants from Catholic Charities to offer important projects of relevance to Harlem and to the Archdiocese. We received $5000.00 for the Matthew 25 Initiative sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul, the Health Committee and the Social Justice Committee. This Project will provide support for workshops to be offered to immigrants and to those who avail themselves of our Pantry. The workshops will provide immigrant rights information and will offer healthy eating tutorials. We also received $3000.00 to offer several “Conversations on Racism” with interested groups from other Catholic Parishes. 5. Mr. Ryan Muldoon from the North American College Seminary in Rome spent the Summer at the Parish of St Charles Borromeo, Resurrection and All Saints teaching, serving, preaching and learning. He came to our Parish for seven weeks to learn firsthand what it means to serve God as a Catholic priest. Ryan was a joyful presence in our Rectory and at our Church this Summer. 6. Fr. Cesar Muziotti, SJ, has served the Spanish speaking community at our Parish for the last 12 months. While he was here he was learning English. At the beginning of August he left us and left New York to begin work on a Master’s Degree in Education at Boston College. Fr. Cesar was yet another one of God’s gifts to our Parish in the last year. 7. In midAugust a former papal ambassador to the United States, Archbishop Viganò, charged that the Pope knew about the sexual improprieties of Cardinal McCarrick many years ago but did nothing about it. Archbishop Viganò called on the Pope to resign his Office. The very same week Msgr. Meehan was publicly accused in the NY Post of abusing a Cardinal Hayes student in the 1980’s. Msgr. Meehan vigorously denies the allegations. 8. Mr. Mark George, originally from Jamaica in the Caribbean, join our staff this Summer as a Pastoral Associate. He will work in St. Charles Borromeo School as a Chaplain and will assist Fr. Gregory Chisholm in the Church On Sunday, September 9th, at 1:30pm in St. Charles Church Sanctuary our Parish will host an open Parish Council meeting to discuss the implications of the events of this Summer on us all. Becoming A Catholic Starting this month, we welcome new members to our Parish to our Christian Initiation program led by Deacon Michel Hodge and his wife, Stacey Hodge. The group will meet on Wednesday evenings at 7pm in the Church Rectory. These sessions will prepare new Catholics for Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. Adult Catholics who have not already received Holy Communion and Confirmation are welcomed also to these sessions. CALENDAR OF EVENTS

If you are a member of one of organizations, please contact OBM ~ FR. GREGORY C. CHISHOLM , SJ ~ ¡Bienvenido A Todos!
