America Abroad Media Brings Top Hollywood Writer and Producers to Abu Dhabi Last week America Abroad Media (AAM) helped organize a delegation of leading Hollywood producers and writers who traveled to Abu Dhabi for a groundbreaking series of workshops and events aimed at supporting young creative talent in the UAE and the broader Arab World. The delegation included AAM Founder and President Aaron Lobel; Ben Silverman, the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Peabody Award-winning executive producer of The Office, Ugly Betty, The Tudors, Jane the Virgin, and Marco Polo; Greg Daniels, a leading comedy writer, producer, and director on shows such as Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons and co-creator of The Office, King of the Hill, and Parks and Recreation; and Howard Owens, Founder and co-CEO of Propagate Content and former CEO of National Geographic Channels. “Our partners in the Middle East have the ambition and the talent to bring about a new golden age in Arab drama and entertainment," said Lobel, "and they feel that the experience of Hollywood professionals can benefit their efforts. We look forward to forging long term partnerships for Arabic drama and entertainment programming that will reach audiences across the Middle East and far beyond." This study explores the rise of contemporary Australian horror production: emerging production and distribution models; the films produced; and the industrial, market and technological forces driving production. Australian horror production is a vibrant production sector comprising mainstream and underground spheres of production. Mainstream horror production is an independent, internationally oriented production sector on the margins of the Australian film industry producing titles such as Wolf Creek (2005) and Rogue (2007), while underground production is a fan-based, indie filmmaking subculture, producing credit-card films such as I know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer (2006) and The Killbillies (2002). Overlap between these spheres of production, results in ‘high-end indie’ films such as Undead (2003) and Gabriel (2007) emerging from the underground but crossing over into the mainstream. -

The Finance and Production of Independent Film and Television in the UK: A Critical Introduction Vital Statistics General Population: 64.1m Size: 241.9 km sq GDP: £1.9tr (€2.1tr) Film1 Market share of UK independent films in 2015: 10.5% Number of feature films produced: 201 Average visits to cinema per person per year: 2.7 Production spend per year: £1.4m (€1.6) TV2 Audience share of the main publicly-funded PSB (BBC): 72% Production spend by PSBs: £2.5bn (€3.2bn) Production spend by commercial channels (excluding sport): £350m (€387m) Time spent watching television per day: 193 minutes (3hrs 13 minutes) Introduction This chapter provides an overview of independent film and television production in the UK. Despite the unprecedented levels of convergence that characterise the digital era, the UK film and television industries remain distinct for several reasons. The film industry is small and fragmented, divided across the two opposing sources of support on which it depends: large but uncontrollable levels of ‘inward-investment’ – money invested in the UK from overseas – mainly from the US, and low levels of public subsidy. Abstract This thesis will discuss the emerging influence of film review aggregators and their effect on the changing landscape for reviews in the film industry. Specifically, this study will look at the top 150 domestic grossing films of 2010 to empirically study the effects of two specific review aggregators. A time-delayed approach to regression analysis is used to measure the influencing effects of these aggregators in the long run. Subsequently, other factors crucial to predicting film success are also analyzed in the context of sustained earnings. -

Long Synopsis: Neil McCormick (Ben Barnes) always knew he’d be famous. A young Irish songwriter and budding genius, nothing less than a life of rock n’ roll stardom will do. But there’s only room for one singer in school band The Hype and his friend Paul’s already bagged the job. So Neil forms his own band with his brother Ivan (Robert Sheehan), determined to leave The Hype in his wake. There’s only one problem: The Hype have changed their name. To ‘U2’. And Paul (Martin McCann) has turned into ‘Bono’. Naturally there’s only one option for Neil: become bigger than U2. The brothers head to London in their quest for fame, but they are blighted by the injustices of the music industry, and their every action is dwarfed by the soaring success of their old school rivals. As the terms of two of our Trustees are coming to a close in September 2021, Film London is keen to attract three to four candidates to replace the skills and expertise these board members are bringing to our Board. We are therefore looking for outstanding candidates who have a substantial knowledge and experience at a very senior level in one or more of the following areas: Cinema Exhibition Film and TV Content Distribution / Streaming In addition, candidates should bring a strong commercial background in the creative industries across film, TV, animation and games. We strongly encourage applications from under-represented groups, including black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, and those with disabilities.
