Closed Sundays and USF Holidays (9/7, 11/11, 11/25–11/28) A Family Affair presents seven artists who explore personal identity and family relationships through photography, video, performance and animation: Renee Cox, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Kalup Linzy, Jacolby Satterwhite, Hank Willis Thomas, Corine Vermeulen and Deborah Willis. During the exhibition Corine Vermeulen will be in residence and undertake a three-month community-based project in collaboration with the University Area Community Development Corporation. A Family Affair is curated by Megan Voeller and organized by USFCAM. The exhibition catalogue for A Family Affair is supported by a grant from the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation. Corine Vermeulen’s residency is supported by Caspers Company and Sharmila and Vivek Seth. AYA TAREK ARTIST'S TALK SEPT. 25, 3:30pm, USF School of Art and Art History (FAH290) Artist Aya Tarek's street murals and graffiti have garnered her international attention beyond her native Alexandria, Egypt. In this illustrated lecture, she will discuss her artistic practice and her career trajectory. Tarek's residency is sponsored by the USF Contemporary Art Museum and Art2Action Inc., as a part of THIS Bridge: Arab, Middle Eastern & Muslim Artists Series, in partnership with USF College of The Arts. MICROPHONE FILM SCREENING + Q&A SEPT. 28, 7:30pm, The Oval Theatre, USF Marshall Student Center (MSC) Microphone is a 2010 Egyptian independent film by Ahmad Abdalla about the underground art scene of the Through A Lens Darkly poster photo by Lyle Ashton city of Alexandria, Egypt. USF Artist in residence Aya Tarek is featured in the film and will participate in a Harris (in collaboration with Thomas Allen Harris) Q+A after the screening. ART THURSDAY: AYA TAREK MURAL PREMIERE OCT. 1, 7pm, USF Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) Egyptian street and graffiti artist Aya Tarek will lead a participatory mural painting event during her USF residency. A party with music and refreshments will celebrate the official premiere of the art work, which will later be displayed in various areas of the USF campus. Many of these are rare, with just one print remaining in inventory. All sales benefit Graphicstudio’s continuing research and educational programming, and must be completed on October 9th. PUBLIC ART WALKING TOUR OCT. 16, 12pm, Starting at the site of Alyson Shotz, Double Rotation (2011) USF Health - Carol and Frank Morsani Center (MDH) USF Curator of Public Art & Social Practice, Sarah Howard, will lead a free walking tour of selected works in the USF Public Art Collection on the Tampa campus. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the program, and the artists and collaborators who created the site-specific works. Tour will be Alex Katz, Tracy, 2013. Lithograph/woodcut, 26 x 36 in. held weather permitting. The three day 2015 Creative Time Summit Screening in Tampa Bay will be hosted by USFCAM on Friday, November 13; the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg on Saturday, November 14; and Tampa Museum of Art on Sunday, November 15. Part of the University of South Florida College of The Arts, the IRA is dedicated to an international artists’ residency program that brings to the University and Tampa Bay community today’s most accomplished and influential artists working in the international art arena. Exhibitions, collection development, publication of limited edition graphics and sculpture multiples, commissioned public art works, lectures, symposia, workshops and special events are designed to foster awareness about the role of contemporary artists in shaping our culture and society. Participating artists represent the full and diverse spectrum of contemporary art practice including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, photography, electronic media, and performance.
