Zebrał całą swoją odwagę i ruszył w głąb wielkiego, czerwonego gabinetu. -

Spotlight on John Williams ****
Spotlight on John Williams **** JOHN WILLIAMS Prospero Disc One: 10 tracks - 66:12 Disc Two: 6 tracks - 35:04 John Williams’ music has long been a source of inspiration for conductors and record labels who produce re-recordings. Charles Gerhardtwas one of the first practitioners of this back in the 1970s, and Williams himself admired these albums very much, stating in 1980: “In recent years, Gerhardt has done more than anyone else toward advancing the course of film music.” The Prospero label, conductor Kevin Griffiths and Switzerland’s City Light Symphony Orchestra offer the latest John Williams highlights album, Spotlight on John Williams, featuring an array of greats that cover a wide range of the composer’s repertoire. Thankfully, this orchestra is well versed with playing this material, due in no small part to Film Concerts Live having a special arrangement whereby their latest live-to-picture package is premiered and performed by the orchestra in their home of the KKL Concert Hall in Lucerne (an example of which takes place this coming June with Superman in Concert). The Spotlight playlist opens with material from Mark Rydell’s 1972 film The Cowboys. Williams originally constructed this 10-minute overture for his debut Boston Pops performance in 1980, where it shined due to its suitably fanfaric structure with appropriate sprinklings of Americana. The orchestra nails the performance here, making for a fantastic opener. We then shift to a trilogy of Spielberg classics: First up is the underperformed Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom “End Credits” (paging Laurent Bouzereau; this is how your Concord album should have finished!). -

Starkiller Base Found!
SPACE SCOOP NOTÍCIAS DE TODO O UNIVERSO 2Starkiller de Agosto de Base 2016 Found! Starkiller Base is the headquarters of the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The base is not only twice the size of the Death Star, it's also much more powerful. We see this in the movie when it demolishes five planets at once! All that power has to come from somewhere, but where could Starkiller Base get that amount of energy? From the biggest nuclear reactors in the galaxy — stars. The base is called “Starkiller” because it literally drains the power from stars to charge its cannon. The energy is then released as a deadly blast of radiation. Thankfully neither the First Order nor Starkiller Base are real, but astronomers have just spotted a real ray gun that is equally powerful. This picture shows a binary (double star) system made up of two stars orbiting each other. A red dwarf star on the left and a white dwarf star on the right. Despite travelling the Universe together, the relationship between the two stars is anything but friendly. Just like Starkiller Base, the white dwarf accelerates particles up to almost the speed of light (the fastest speed possible in our Universe) and aims them at its companion star in a deadly beam. The explosions lash out so brutally that the entire star system appears to glows brightly for a short period. This pulsing led astronomers to mistake the system for a variable star for a long time. (A variable star brightens and dims over time.) While we’ve known that neutron stars can pulse for almost fifty years, this is the first time a white dwarf has shown similar behaviour! COOL FACT! The system can brighten by a factor of four in just 30 seconds! www.space-awareness.org/scoops . -

MASCULINE REPRESENTATIONS in STAR WARS by NICOLE
UNMASKING HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY: MASCULINE REPRESENTATIONS IN STAR WARS by NICOLE MARTINEZ B.A., University of Colorado Colorado Springs 2017 A thesis submitted to the Graduate Faculty of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Communication 2019 © 2019 NICOLE MARTINEZ ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii This thesis for the Master of Arts degree by Nicole Martinez has been approved for the Department of Communication by Christopher Bell, Chair K. Maja Krakowiak Katie Sullivan December 16, 2019 iii Martinez, Nicole (M.A. Communication) Unmasking Hegemonic Masculinity: Masculine Representations in Star Wars Thesis directed by Associate Professor Christopher Bell. ABSTRACT Star Wars has influenced generations of American viewers for decades but has gone largely unanalyzed when it comes to a critique of the discourses about masculinity presented in the films. This is problematic as media serves as an agent of socialization, and the representations of masculinity in the Star Wars franchise may influence viewers’ idealization of masculinity leading to real world consequences. The research questions being analyzed in this study are: Is hegemonic masculinity performed by central characters in Star Wars? If so, how is it reinforced, how is it challenged, and how do these change over time? This study uses a critical discourse analysis to analyze the character development of twenty central characters of the Star Wars franchise, how these characters are both challenged and aspire to fall into ideals of hegemonic masculinity, and how these ideals may shift over time. Keywords: Star Wars, Critical Discourse Analysis, Hegemonic Masculinity, Toxic Masculinity iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank all of the people in my life who made it possible for me to submit this thesis and pursue my Masters education. -

The Clone Wars Sourcebook The Galactic Republic By Keith Kappel and Ryan Brooks THE REPUBLIC [Diplomacy +8] [Sense Motive +9] R The Galactic Republic has been the presiding governing body throughout the galaxy for nearly twenty-five millennia. It was comprised of hundreds of thousands of star systems and thousands of sentient races. Those who served the Republic faced many adversities over the millennia. The Clone Wars were no different. After a thousand years of peace and prosperity the Republic had become corrupt and decadent. There were those who came to realize this deterioration of Democracy and pledged to break away from the crumbling government. When this splitting came to all out war, the Republic was ready to answer their enemy’s call to arms with their Grand Army of the Republic. Below is a chronicling of those who remained loyal to the Republic and for what it stood. Palpatine – Supreme Chancellor of the Republic Palpatine began his political career on his home world of Naboo at approximately twenty years of age. Fresh out of Naboo’s public service, his early political life was mired with a series of dissatisfying electoral defeats at the hands of several opponents. For nearly a decade, Palpatine maintained a drab governmental portfolio until his first big break occurred when he was thirty years old. The incumbent senator of Naboo, Vidar Kim, was assassinated in a drive-by shooting, leaving Palpatine running unopposed. He was elected to serve as the next Senator of the Chommell Sector’s thirty-seven inhabited worlds. Taking his position on the Senate floor on Coruscant, Palpa- tine led a fairly meek political record. -
