InfoSpace and Comverse Team to Deliver Communication, Information and Commerce to the TV

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2001--InfoSpace, Inc. (:INSP), a leading provider of the platform and applications that enable partners to deliver consumer and commerce services across the Internet to any device over current and next-generation networks, today announced an alliance with Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMVT), and the leading supplier of and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication services, to collaborate in developing integrated services to be licensed to cable operators and satellite providers for delivery through TV set-top boxes.

InfoSpace's Broadband Services and Comverse's interactive TV unified communications (iTVGate) platform will integrate a wide array of each company's products and services for the TV. InfoSpace has joined the Comverse Spark Alliance(SM) Program; a program that promotes cooperation in the development, marketing and delivery of multimedia communication solutions.

Under the collaboration, InfoSpace's broadband platform, which enables network operators to offer a turnkey "walled garden," including various applications and T-commerce transaction processing, will be integrated with Comverse's iTVGate platform, which enables convergence of the telephony and cellular environment with iTV services creating unified communications services, including unified messaging, TV short messaging and services (TV-SMS), and calling services over TV.

The joint offering is expected to include "personalized and event driven" information services, TV-to-TV and TV-to-cellular instant messaging, telephony enhanced advertising, telephony enhanced TV address book, and other services that will be jointly designed by the two companies.
