Engineers & Artists to project climate change artwork onto Verizon's 375 building

Verizon to host the unique art exhibit on September 26, in honor of Climate Week NYC September 26, 2019

NEW YORK – Verizon presents Engineers & Artists: Climate Change, a one-night only exhibition revealing three unique, original artworks inspired by climate change, created by artists in collaboration with engineers. The several-stories high projection is designed to raise public awareness of climate change in an unexpected, unmissable way, inspiring climate action on the individual level. Verizon’s 375 Pearl Street building in will act as the canvas for the projection on September 26, 2019 during Climate Week NYC, during which world leaders and environmental experts will be discussing the future of the planet. This location was chosen for its visibility from across the , FDR Drive and lower .

We are at a crossroads with addressing climate change and its effects on the world, both in our backyard and abroad. Innovation on both the corporate and individual level is paramount to climate protection. Verizon created Engineers & Artists to inspire new and innovative solutions for the future through the lens of visual design and technology.

Each artist and engineer pair was challenged to address one of the following key themes: The Urgency of Now, Visualizing our Carbon Footprint, Creative Solutions for a Cleaner Tomorrow, Transforming Everyday Habits, and the Technological Evolution of Climate Change.

Participating Artists, selected in partnership with New York based non-profit Artadia:

Hadi Fallahpisheh Fallahpisheh is an Iranian-born artist who works primarily with photography, as well as performance and installation, to destabilize visions of a stable and singular subject, with much of his work being focused on displacement and the gaps between public perception and personal experience.

Devin N. Morris Morris is a Baltimore-born and Brooklyn-based artist whose work collapses personal experience, memory and space to delicately envision new realms and draws on his upbringing in Baltimore and navigating the world as a black queer man.

Summer Wheat Wheat is a Queens-based artist who has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in art fairs, galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and around the world, from Tel Aviv to Oklahoma to New York City.

Participating Engineers:

Adam Atia (Columbia University) Atia is an engineer working toward sustainable solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a specific interest in the intersection between energy and water infrastructure.

Ben Matusow (Insight Civil Engineering) Matusow is a facilities consultant at Insight Civil, where he has been involved in collecting and preparing data for energy audits in NYC public schools, as directed by Local Law 87 of 2009.

Anne Shellum (BuroHappold Engineering) Shellum is a Mechanical Engineer at BuroHappold Engineering, where she strives to design a building environment that promotes the health of humans and the natural environment

The experience is being produced in conjunction with Hiker Company, a creative agency based in New York. Projections are being overseen by Light Harvest Studio in collaboration with the Alfred E. Smith Houses Resident Association, Inc.
