RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the are the 2012 Champions having won the for the first time since the franchise was born in 1967; and

WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Kings, showed a stunning path of success this year: they ranked next-to-last in the NHL in scoring, they did not achieve a playoff spot until the last weekend of the season, they won the first three rounds of the playoffs against the in the Stanley Cup Final and they became Champions last Monday with a 6-1 victory at the Staples Center; and

WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Kings won their victory through a true team effort, with seventeen players scoring at least one during the postseason and with. all the players contributing to the team effort in ways other than on the score sheet; and

WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Kings also set NHL records by winning ten straight road games in one playoff year and twelve straight road games over two seasons; and

WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Kings and their coach Darryl Sutter have displayed the highest level of achievement for which they are to be congratulated and thanked; and

WHEREAS, the Stanely Cup is the most respected and the most difficult trophy to win in all of professional sports; and

WHEREAS, this victory is also shared by the fans, the people and the City of Los Angeles who are all proud of it and consider it their own;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this Resolution the Council of the City of Los Angeles hereby commends and congratulates the 2012 NATIONAL HOCKEY TEAM CHAMPIONS LOS ANGELES KINGS on winning the Stanely Cup and on their remarkable record of achievement in reaching this victory.

JOHN FISHER

WHEREAS, John Fisher, Assistant General Manager of Transportation Operations for the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation, is retiring after an accomplished 39-year career; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher, a native ofVenice, attended Sunset Avenue Elementary and Westminster Avenue Elementary in Venice, Mark Twain Middle School in Mar Vista and Westchester High School in Westchester; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Long Beach as well as certificates in Transportation Systems Management and Leadership; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher began his storied career with the Department of Transportation in 1973, serving in various positions involving freeway, street and transit improvements; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher worked his way up the ladder and became Assistant General Manager of Transportation Operations in 1999, where his accomplishments include: managing and guiding the citywide implementation ofthe ATSAC (Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control) program, accelerating the installation of bike lanes throughout the City, guiding the design and construction of the City's Metro Rail Program, and developing a comprehensive Pedestrian Safety Program; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher has served as chairman of the California Traffic Control Devices Committee, which advises Cal trans on the application of new or innovative traffic control devices; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher, a consummate professional, has also achieved professional registration as a Civil Engineer, Traffic Engineer and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher is a proficient writer, successfully publishing a plethora of articles that span all aspects of transportation and urban development as well as Southern California History; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher is also a recipient of a multitude of awards and honors including the Young Transportation Engineer ofthe Year in 1978, the "Innovations in State and Local Government" award from the John F. Kennedy of School of Government, Harvard University in 1992, and the Life Member Achievement Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher has a deep appreciation for Southern California history, historic preservation and serves as a member ofthe Los Angeles Conservancy, Pasadena Heritage and the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and a board member of the Los Angeles City Historical Society; and

WHEREAS, John Fisher now lives with his wife and children in South Pasadena, where he enjoys collecting vintage music and dancing the Lindy Hop and the Hustle:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption ofthis resolution, the Los Angeles City Council hereby commends John Fisher for his 39 years of service to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and wishes him continued good health, prosperity and enjoyment in all his future endeavors.

Dan Elias

Whereas, under Dan Elias' two-year tenure as President of the Northridge/Chatsworth Rotary Club (July 20, 2010 through June 2012) club members have been able to accomplish many great philanthropic and humanitarian efforts with his help and leadership including donating over $4,000 to the Rotary International Foundation for worldwide polio eradication; community blood drives-twice a year; and

Whereas, the Rotary donated new books each week in honor of their speaker to Reach Out and Read, an organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide; and

Whereas, the Rotary has been an active partner in the local community. Their involvement includes sponsorship of the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber's Unforgettable Educator Events and Installation Galas and had a booth at their first Family Festival; has sponsored the North Valley Chamber's Gala and Business Expos; co-sponsored a luncheon with the Granada Hills Rotary, to address the community to speak to local elected officials about their concerns with local government leaders. Club members have volunteered countless hours in support of programs from a non-profit organization called MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity); and

Whereas, Interact Clubs (Rotary-sponsored youth service clubs) Northridge/Chatsworth Rotary sponsors two clubs, one at Granada Hill Charter High School with over 50 members and one at Chatsworth High School with over 40 members; and

Whereas, over the past two years, the club will have sent 26 students to Rotary's Youth Leadership Training Program (RYLA); given out $2,000 in scholarships; provided awards for their year-end dinners; and took many to Pasadena to work on the Rotary Rose Parade Float; and

Whereas, for many years, Northridge/Chatsworth Rotary has sponsored the magnet schoors year-end awards luncheon, providing for the meal and purchase of the awards; and

Whereas, the club has supported the LAPD Devonshire Police Activity enrichment programs for at-risk children and teens; and

Whereas, the Rotary has donated funds to organizations including: the Boy Scouts of America; Reo BakPak; Treasurers, a unique, faith-based outreach and support group for women in the sex industry; and the Seaburn, England Rotary's 147 km run in support of their service projects; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by adoption of this resolution the Los Angeles City Council does hereby commend DAN ELIAS for his dedication and philanthropic involvement during his tenure as president of the Northridge/Chatsworth Rotary Club and congratulate him on being honored on June 16, 2012 for his exceptional leadership and personal dedication. His moral and ethical standards characterize both his business and personal way of life.
