People and Prosperity WORKING TOGETHER Premier’sPEO Message PLE, PROSPERITY, ENGAGEMENT Dear Islanders, A year ago I had the privilege of becoming your Premier. Over the past 12 months, I have been encouraged by the commitment of Islanders to work together. Everywhere I go - from West Prince to Eastern Kings - I hear from Islanders who are striving to build a better future for their families and their communities. These conversations have provided the foundation for a deliberate and well- considered plan to move our province forward. I firmly believe that government must be led by the people it serves - and every decision must reflect that sense of common purpose and optimism. For those reasons, we have a plan that will: • Create opportunities for jobs for Islanders, and support Island businesses to grow • Position our school system in a way that places student success at the centre of all decision-making • Invite Islanders to become more active in government Our Liberal team will work together with Islanders to move our province forward. We are here to serve each and every one of you - and with your continued input, advice, and energy, together we will build a stronger Prince Edward Island. Sincerely, Premier Wade MacLauchlan Let’s Work Together! PEOPLE, PROSPeople PERITY, ENGAGEMENT Islanders are known for their sense of generosity and willingness to help their friends and neighbours. As Liberals, we’re deeply committed to helping those Islanders who need it the most. We also recognize the need to invest in services that matter the most to Islanders, like healthcare. • New personal income tax changes mean 12,000 Islanders pay less tax, including 2,000 who will no longer pay any personal income tax • The Generic Drug Program assists Islanders under the age of 65 who don’t have private health insurance. The program caps the cost of generic drug prescriptions at $19.95. Already 10,000 Islanders have enrolled in the program • An additional $400,000 was invested this year in seniors home renovation programs • Social assistance food rates have increased by up to 17 per cent • Funding for school breakfast programs was doubled, meaning students can better focus on learning • A new dispatch system and an additional ambulance in Eastern Kings will improve response times in emergencies • A new youth recovery centre in Summerside and a new youth mental health day treatment program in Charlottetown are helping young Islanders lead more rewarding lives • New medications continue to be added to the provincial drug programs, assisting hundreds of Islanders with a variety of illnesses People, Prosperity, Engagement PEOPLE, PROSPERITY,Prosperity ENGAGEMENT The economy is our greatest priority. Growing our economy will create more jobs for Islanders, help local businesses advance, and allow us to invest more in services like health care and education. We have many success stories to celebrate here on Prince Edward Island. We should feel proud of the many Island companies that are producing innovative products being sold worldwide. By working together, we can provide better opportunities for all Islanders. • Island companies are creating new and innovative products - and there are literally hundreds of job opportunities available across our province • Our strong resource sector is positioning our province as Canada’s Food Island • 2015 was a record year for Tourism, surpassing an exceptional year in 2014 • Average weekly wages on Prince Edward Island grew faster than wages in any other province • P.E.I. products being shipped worldwide resulted in our province leading the country in export growth • Between 2007 and 2015, population growth on Prince Edward Island was the fastest in Atlantic Canada • Government is on track toward a balanced budget - which will further ease the burden on all Islanders Let’s Work Together! PEOPLE, PROSPERITY, ENGAGEMENTEngagement Education We’re working with all Islanders to help our students achieve excellence. Together, we will make sure that everyone is working on the same goal and that students are given the best opportunities to succeed. In the coming months, we will continue to engage students, families, educators, and communities: • The new Prince Edward Island Learning Partners Advisory Council will support learners from birth to retirement • Teachers and principals will have more say in how the school system should operate • Students will be encouraged to have a more active role in their education • The education system will better focus on the needs of students, including opportunities for jobs here on Prince Edward Island Good Government Islanders want a government that is hard-working, open and transparent. In two sittings, the Legislative Assembly has adopted 45 new bills, approved operating and capital budgets, and seen an enhanced tenor of debate. Government has acted on more than 80 of its campaign commitments. • Enhanced conflict of interest requirements have been introduced, overseen by a new Commissioner of Ethics and Integrity • Expenses of cabinet members and senior officials are posted monthly. Islanders are invited to participate in public boards and agencies through the Engage PEI process People, Prosperity, Engagement The Liberal Caucus Allen Roach Alan McIsaac Buck Watts District 3 District 5 District 8 Montague – Kilmuir Vernon River – Stratford Tracadie – Hillsborough Park [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 902.838.0910 902.368.4820 902.368.4310 Wade MacLauchlan Robert Mitchell Doug Currie District 9 District 10 District 11 York – Oyster Bed Charlottetown – Sherwood Charlottetown – Parkdale [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 902.368.4400 902.620.3646 902.368.4610 Richard Brown Jordan Brown Kathleen Casey District 12 District 13 District 14 Charlottetown – Victoria Park Charlottetown – Brighton Charlottetown – Lewis Point [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 902.368.4801 902.368.4330 902.368.4330 LIBERALPEI.CA The Liberal Caucus Bush Dumville Heath MacDonald Janice Sherry District 15 District 16 District 21 West Royalty – Springvale Cornwall – Meadowbank Summerside – Wilmot [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 902.368.4380 902.368.4230 902.888.8000 Tina Mundy Paula Biggar Sonny Gallant District 22 District 23 District 24 Summerside – St. Eleanors Tyne Valley – Linkletter Évangéline – Miscouche [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 902.888.8000 902.888.8000 902.620.3852 Robert Henderson Pat Murphy Hal Perry District 25 District 26 District 27 O’Leary – Inverness Alberton – Roseville Tignish – Palmer Road [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 902.859.8800 902.856.8622 902. 882.7351 1.877.740.3449 The Liberal Team A Hard Working Team! 6 Pownal St, P.O.
