  • Blue Moon [Chorus]
Blue Moon (Elvis Presley) [Chorus] Blue moon You saw me standing alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own [Verse] Blue moon You knew just what I was there for You heard me saying a prayer for Someone I really could care for [Chorus] Blue moon You saw me standing alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own [Outro] Blue moon Without a love of my own 25 "Blue Moon" is a classic popular song written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934, and has become a standard ballad. It may be the first instance of the familiar "50s progression" in a popular song. The song was a hit twice in 1949 with successful recordings in the US by Billy Eckstine and Mel Tormé. In 1961, "Blue Moon" became an international number one hit for the doo-wop group The Marcels, on the Billboard 100 chart and in the UK Singles chart. Over the years, "Blue Moon" has been covered by various artists including versions by Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley, The Platters, The Mavericks, Dean Martin, The Supremes, Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart. Bing Crosby included the song in a medley on his album On the Happy Side (1962). It is also the anthem of English Football League club Crewe Alexandra and English Premier League football club Manchester City, who have both adapted the song slightly. "Blue Moon"'s first crossover recording to rock and roll came from Elvis Presley in 1954, produced by Sam Phillips. His cover version of the song was included on his 1956 debut album Elvis Presley, issued on RCA Records.

  • The Love Song of Tj Lubinsky
THE LOVE SONG OF TJ LUBINSKY By bringing honor to past pop stars, Bradley Beach producer becomes public TV's pledge-drive king Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 08/6/06 BY MIKE BARRIS SPECIAL TO THE PRESS NEW YORK — The baby-faced dude with the hip buzz cut is on PBS Channel 13 this Saturday night, gushing. "This is music about lu-u-u-v-v-ve!" TJ Lubinsky exclaims. "This is music about what was happening in our lives. This is when music was — music!" Balling his hands into fists, wiggling his eyebrows and flashing a shy little smile, the nervy kid from Evergreen Avenue in Bradley Beach seems determined to touch the hearts of viewers, transporting them to "a place that is very special to them." The TV camera — a magnifier of intimate details — picks up Lubinsky's passion for his cause: bringing "honor and respect" to the legacies of forgotten pop stars. "That feeling in your heart and that feeling of love — that's what this is about," Lubinsky says. The 34-year-old pitchman in the dark suit and T-shirt, who brings to mind a rounder Tom Hanks, says time is running out — not only for this public-television station pledge break, but for the aging artists he is striving to immortalize with his nostalgic pop-music specials. TJ Lubinsky: Saving pop for posterity. "If you love the fact we can share this music with your kids," Lubinsky says, "we need your support." TJ Lubinsky (the TJ stands for Terry James, although he's always been known just as TJ) is the mastermind behind the "My Music" extravaganzas that frequently are shown during pledge drives on PBS, the nonprofit public broadcaster.

  • Chris Reynolds: This Is an Interview with Charlie Harmony on Thursday
Charlie Harmony Memoir Springfield, Illinois October 9, 2006 Chris Reynolds: This is an interview with Charlie Harmony on Thursday. November the 9th, 2006 at Dean Williams Studio in Springfield, Illinois which oddly enough is on Harmony Court. We’re working on an oral history on the Harmony Brother’s musical career. My name is Chris Reynolds; the taping is being done by Dean Williams, and let’s just go ahead and get started here. Charlie, I want to do this in time frames, so the first time frame I want to work on is the pre-1956, before the band got started. But I want to start out with a question that I really failed to ask Ben which was can we talk a little bit about your family? How many brothers and sisters you had and what your mom and dad did and those kinds of things ? Charlie Harmony: Sure, there were eight of us in the family, four boys and four girls. My dad was a coal miner; my mom was a housewife, as was the case in those days. Of course she had eight kids to raise so she had quite a job. They were all like Ben and I, wild and crazy so she really had her work cut out for her. Chris: And you lived in Springfield at that same home over there? Where, near Ben is now? Charlie: Right in front of where Ben’s house was, the house in front of it is the family home. Chris: And the whole time you lived there, so that goes way back? Charlie: Yes, the house was built in 1940, the year that I was born, I was the first child to live in that house, prior to that, behind the house there was a little two room shack and that is where all of my family and the other six kids were born, Ben was born there, I was the only one born in a hospital.

The Biggest Hits of All: The Hot 100's All-Time Top 100 Songs billboard.com/articles/news/hot-100-turns-60/8468142/hot-100-all-time-biggest-hits-songs-list Adele, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Elton John, Chubby Checker, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain & Whitney Houston Getty Images; Photo Illustration by Quinton McMillan As part of Billboard's celebration of the 60th anniversary of our Hot 100 chart this week, we're taking a deeper look at some of the biggest artists and singles in the chart's history. Here, we revisit the ranking's 100 biggest hits of all-time. On Aug. 4 1958, Billboard launched the Hot 100, forever changing pop music -- or at least how it's measured. Sixty years later, the chart remains the gold-standard ranking of America's top songs each week. And while what goes into a hit has changed (bye, bye jukebox play; hello, streaming!), attaining a spot on the list -- or better yet, a coveted No. 1 -- i s still the benchmark to which artists explore, from Ricky Nelson on the first to Drake on the latest. Which brings us to the hottest-of-the-hot list the 100 most massive smashes over the charts six decades. 1/10 1. The Twist - 1960 Chubby Checker The only song to rule the Billboard Hot 100 in separate release cycles (one week in 1960, two in 1962), thanks to adults catching on to the song and its namesake dance after younger audiences popularized them. 2. Smooth - 1999 Santana Feat. Rob Thomas 3.
