CRR 446/2002 a Study of the Provision of Health and Safety Information in the Annual Reports of the Top UK Companies
HSE Health & Safety Executive A study of the provision of health and safety information in the annual reports of the top UK companies Prepared by System Concepts Ltd for the Health and Safety Executive CONTRACT RESEARCH REPORT 446/2002 HSE Health & Safety Executive A study of the provision of health and safety information in the annual reports of the top UK companies Laura Peebles, Ansgar Kupper and Tanya Heasman System Concepts Ltd 2 Savoy Court Strand London WC2R 0EZ This report details the findings of a research project to investigate the quality and quantity of health and safety information found in the annual reports of the top UK companies. At present, publicly listed companies are not legally required to include health and safety matters in their annual reports. The current Health and Safety Commission (HSC) Strategy Statement, however, contains an action point which focuses on public reporting of health and safety issues by larger companies. The aim is to promote the reporting of health and safety information in company annual reports and to provide guidance that would allow reporting of such information to a common standard. To assist the HSC with this strategy, System Concepts were commissioned by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to undertake an investigation of the provision of health and safety information in company annual reports. The study comprised a series of steps. The main objectives of the study were: i) To determine the current level of reporting of health and safety issues in annual reports of the top UK companies ii) To determine the quality of health and safety information reported. -
Rape Research
Rape Research After scene 2, in Paulson‘s Tavern, Tara is left behind whilst it empties out. This is the perfect setting for Danni to tranquilise her with a date rape drug. This is quite a strong subject, and I felt like the whole group should put more research and get a greater understanding, so we know how to deal with the situation and portray it through our performance. Personally, I have never known anyone who has experienced this situation before, so to ensure that I would create a believable performance and reaction, I needed to get a greater understanding and look at interviews, dramas and information about date rape and the affect it has on people‘s lives. BBC Health – Rohypnol http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/physical_health/conditions/rohypnol.shtml What is Rohypnol? Rohypnol is the brand name of a medicine called flunitrazepam, and is one of the benzodiazepine class of sedative or tranquilizer drugs, of which ‗Valium‘ or diazepam is perhaps the best known. Rohypnol or flunitrazepam is 10 times more potent than diazepam. In the UK the drug is no longer used in the NHS but may be available on private prescription for those who need it (although it‘s generally felt that there are better alternatives). Its legal status in the UK is a class C drug, which means that it‘s illegal to possess flunitrazepam without a prescription. It‘s not legally available in the US, but as it is still made in some countries an illegal trade continues. Rohypnol rose to prominence as the date rape drug because it was colourless, odourless, tasteless and easily dissolved - ideal for spiking drinks undetected - and causes sedation or euphoria in approximately 20 to 30 minutes. -

University of Strathclyde Beats LBS and Oxford in Finals
Victorious University of Strathclyde repeats history at 4th UK edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz UK champions win a second opportunity to travel to India for the international finals, along with newcomers ESCP Europe London, 20th November 2011: The team of Anup Nair and Michael Doroszenko from The University of Strathclyde emerged as champions for the second year in a row at the 4th annual UK Tata Crucible, a major business quiz designed to encourage lateral thinking and test commercial awareness for the country’s future business leaders. The pair from Strathclyde impressed the audience and Quiz Master ‘Pickbrain’ with a confident win, fighting off a spirited challenge from the second place team of ESCP Europe and third place team of London Business School (LBS), with the championship title being decided only on the last question of the evening. Amongst this year’s special guests were Dr Ralph Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, who expressed fascination with the power of the questions and the excitement of the evening, while emphasizing the crucial role that young talent plays in the future success of companies. This year’s chief guest was Jo Johnson, MP for Orpington and former India Bureau Chief for the Financial Times. Awarding the winners with their prizes, Mr Johnson said “It is a very inspiring evening. I am just awe-struck, by not just the knowledge, the factual knowledge that our contestants had, but the ingenuity and the creativity that they displayed in all of their answers”. He urged the students to strive for excellence to achieve success and added “Keep on displaying the sheer enthusiasm for the subject matter and the creativity and ingenuity I just referred to and the world will be yours”.
