GOPALAKRISHNAN: Will the Minister of HOUSING & URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has granted approval and released funds for implementing a number of urban infrastructure projects of Tamil Nadu; (b) if so, the details thereof along with the funds allocated/released for the said purpose during the last three years and the current year, city-wise including Madurai city in Tamil Nadu; and (c) the present status of those projects and the steps taken/being taken for expediting these projects? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI) (a) to (c) Yes Madam. The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved and released funds for implementing urban infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu under its various schemes, viz., Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart Cities Mission (SCM), Page 1 of 2 Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY), Swacchh Bharat Mission – Urban [SBM (U)], Urban Infrastructure Development in Satellite Towns around Seven Mega Cities (UIDSST), Urban Transport (UT), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban [PMAY (U)] and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM). Under AMRUT, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs does not approve projects for individual cities but accords approval to the State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) only. Selection, approval and implementation of individual projects is done by State Government. Further, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs does not release central share of funds city-wise, but funds are released State-wise. -

DYNAMIC GROUND WATER RESOURCES OF MADHYA PRADESH (As on March, 2015) 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Madhya Pradesh is located in the central part of India or metaphorically, the heart of India. The State of Madhya Pradesh is a land-locked State, bordered on the west by Gujarat, on the northwest by Rajasthan, on the northeast by Uttar Pradesh, on the east by Chhattisgarh, and on the south by Maharashtra(Figure-1). It has a geographical area of 3,08,252 Sq. km. and is situated between north latitudes 21° 04' and 26° 54' and east longitudes 74° 00' and 82° 50'. There are 51 districts and 313 Community Development blocks in Madhya Pradesh. The population of state as per census 2011 is 7.27 crores with a population density of 236 persons per sq.km area. Out of total population, 72.37% is rural. The important urban areas in the State are Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain and Gwalior. Dhupgarh in Pachmarhi is on 1350 m amsl which is the highest elevation point in the state. Madhya Pradesh comprises several linguistically and culturally distinct regions, of which the major regions are: Malwa - A plateau region in the northwest of the state, north of the Vindhya Range, with its distinct language and culture. Indore is the major city of the region, while Ujjain is a town of historical importance. Bhopal, the capital city, lies on the extension of Malwa Region and on the edge of Bundelkhand region. Nimar (Nemar): the western portion of the NarmadaRiver valley, lying south of the Vindhyas in the southwest portion of the state. -

About 377 million (31%)1 of India’s population lives in 7,935 urban areas and contributes 63% of gross domestic product (GDP). About 70% of the urban population resides in 4682 rapidly growing urban agglomerations and cities with a population of over 100,000, including 53 cities with a population of more than a million. Growth in the remaining small towns was nominal. The contribution to GDP from the urban areas is expected to increase to about 75% as the proportion of urban population reaches 40% of the total population by 2030. 2. Urban water supply in India is characterized by intermittent water supply (often for a couple of hours in a week) and low coverage, high nonrevenue water, and poor cost recovery. No city in India can claim for universal coverage with continuous pressurized water supply. The service levels are even lower in small towns, which have been upgraded from village character to a town. These small towns mostly depend on local groundwater sources with no treatment and no planned hydraulic networks. The small town local bodies have been struggling with limited financial resources further aggravated by a lack of competent and skilled human resources capable of delivering services expected from a fully functional water utility. 3. The investment in urban infrastructure3 up to the year 2031 was estimated at $53.5 billion for water supply and $40.5 billion for sewerage services at 2009–10 prices. -

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE ((INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI) (a) to (c) Urban Development is a State subject. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs facilitates and assists States/Union Territories (UTs), including Madhya Pradesh, in this endeavour through its various Missions- Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart Cities Mission (SCM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yogana(Urban)(PMAY-U) and through Metro Rail Projects to improve urban infrastructure to improve the quality of life in cities and towns covered under these Mission. List of such cities/towns in the State of Madhya Pradesh along with details of funds released are in Annexure. Under the Missions the Central Government approves the State Plans and provides the Central Assistance to the States. The projects are designed, approved and executed by the States/UTs and the Cities. 3/6/2017 Home TamilNadu Map Tirunelveli District Profile Print TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT PROFILE • Tirunelveli district is bounded by Virudhunagar district in the north, Thoothukudi district in the east, in the south by Gulf of Mannar and by Kerala State in the west and Kanniyakumari in the southwest. • The District lies between 08º08'09’’N to 09º24'30’’N Latitude, 77º08'30’’E to 77º58'30’’E Longitude and has an areal extent of 6810 sq.km. • There are 19 Blocks, 425 Villages and 2579 Habitations in the District. Physiography and Drainage: • Tirunelveli district falls in Tamiraparani river basin, which is the main river of the district. • The river has a large network of tributaries which includes the Peyar, Ullar, Karaiyar, Servalar, Pampar, Manimuthar, Varahanathi, Ramanathi, Jambunathi, Gadana nathi, Kallar, Karunaiyar, Pachaiyar, Chittar, Gundar, Aintharuviar, Hanumanathi, Karuppanathi and Aluthakanniar draining the district. • The river Tamiraparani originates from the hills in the west and enters Thoothukudi District and finally confluences in Bay of Bengal. • The other two rivers draining the district are river Nambiar and Hanumanathi of Nanguneri taluk in the south that are not part of the Tamiraparani river basin. • The small part of the district in the northern part falls in river Vaippar basin.
