Liberal International

185th Executive Committee Meeting

Cape Town, November 13-14 2010 Hosted by the Democratic Alliance Dear Liberal friends

Creating more efficient and transparent government, thereby enabling and empowering the citizen, has long been in the interest of Liberal International. Together we can show that implementing liberal policies on effective decentralisation of political power to self-governing communities, on the principle of subsidiarity, can strengthen the foundation of democracy in many societies as it remains the best way to empower every citizen.

Following the highly successful 56th Congress in Cairo in October 2009, delegation to Burundi in February 2010, and visit to West Africa in August 2010, LI will have visited all four African regions in the past year, confirming our already strong commitment to the development of liberalism on the African continent. In South Africa for the 185th Executive Committee of LI, we have the honour to be hosted by South Africa’s Democratic Alliance and its leader , of the Province. The Democratic Alliance, and its predecessors have long served as a strong liberal voice for South Africa, championing our shared values of human rights, individual liberties, the free market as well as advantages of decentralized government.

On behalf of LI, I welcome you to South Africa and look forward to a shared exchange of dialogue and for those who are unable to be present in ; I look forward to speaking with you in the future as we continue to strengthen the international liberal family.

With Best Regards,

Hans van Baalen MEP President Liberal International
