Canada's Great Kitchen Party Celebrates Another Year of Canadian Excellence in Support of Musicounts, Community Food Centres C Canada’s Great Kitchen Party Celebrates Another Year of Canadian Excellence In Support of MusiCounts, Community Food Centres Canada and B2ten Toronto, ON – Starting on October 22, Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, in partnership ​ ​ ​ with MusiCounts, Community Food Centres Canada and B2ten, are inviting ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Canadians to enjoy a podium-worthy meal from a local culinary legend, and an online show featuring some of Canada's most iconic musicians. ​ ​ “For fifteen years we have been staging large events in thirteen cities across Canada and have raised close to 17 million dollars for charities. Our pivot this year, to intimate dinners in homes or private settings and an online show with over 20 amazing Canadian musicians, is being very well received," said Kitchen Party Co-Founder Karen Blair. ​ ​ “Our vision in 2020 is to support the Canadian culinary community, Canadian musicians and our three chosen charities - all who have been greatly impacted because of the pandemic. These are challenging times. The evenings will bring some joy and hope into people's homes as we celebrate Canadian resilience and a renewed shared hope and commitment for a better Canada" From October 22 to October 30, five virtual events will take place across Canada, where participants choose a ready to serve 3-course meal prepared by one of the competing chefs, and enjoy a virtual show by legendary Canadian performers. Curated by Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, the show will feature acts from Ed Robertson, Serena Ryder, Alan Doyle, Barney Bentall, Johnny Reid, Whitehorse, Eagle and Hawk, William Prince, Anne Lindsay, Danny Michel, Terra Lightfoot, Gord Bamford, Joel Plaskett and many more! It will also include cameo appearances from Rick Mercer, Chris Hadfield, Tessa Virtue, Sacha and more. “MusiCounts believes all students should have access to the life-changing benefits of music education. MusiCounts' mission is to ensure that youth in Canada have access to music programs through their schools and communities.     Gavin’s Woodpile – The Bruce Cockburn Newsletter Edited by Daniel Keebler Issue Number 25 February 1998 Mali and The River of Sand Bruce Cockburn will travel with a Canadian documentary crew to Mali in February, to capture the life and livelihood of the people of the West African country. Cockburn will spend a month exploring the country. His itinerary will include stops in the legendary city of Timbuktu as well as the heart of Dogon country, home to one of Africa’s most ancient and fascinating cultures. Along the way, he will cross musical paths with some of Mali’s most well known musicians. His findings will be part of a one hour, made-for-broadcast documentary, River of Sand . It will provide a blend of music and culture while addressing the serious issues facing the people of the country. The film will be produced by Kensington Communications of Toronto. Cockburn, who will narrate and host the film, will also spend time in the Douentza district. There he will have the opportunity to view, first-hand, the ongoing life and death struggle of the local people in overcoming a serious drought this year. As well, he will investigate the progress being made in fighting back the desert, with the assistance of a Canadian development organization, USC Canada (www.usc-canada.org). The singer/songwriter is well known for his interest in environmental issues through his work as spokesperson for USC over the last 25 years. River of Sand will be aired nationally by Vision TV and regionally by TV Ontario and Saskatchewan Education Network.
