In her first game of the 2020 season she tied her career high Home games in BOLD CAPS strikeouts with 12, last time she did this was in 2018 against Campbell. MACKENZIE COLLYER: SOFTBALL SID || (540)-568-6155 || [email protected] RETURNING TO THE FIELD LAST GAME’S JMU STARTERS Though the Dukes lost a key player last season, they return 13 letterwinners from the 2019 season to their 2020 roster, along with two returners. The roster will contain five seniors, six juniors and five sophomores. This past weekend three upperclassman protected the OF - Kate Gordon (Sr.) outfield for the Dukes; Kate Gordon, Michelle Sullivan, Logan Newton. The infield saw familar names from the 2019 season as well; Hannah Shifflet, OF - Logan Newton (Jr.) Madison Naujokas, Hannah File, Sara Jubas. Senior Naujokas has started every JMU softball game since her freshman year. DP - Odicci Alexander (Sr.) NEW NUMBERS IN THE GAME SS - Sara Jubas (Jr.) Five newcomers saw action on the field this weekend, including freshman Emily Phillips who started at catcher for all three games. She pitched .1 innings agaisnt Kansas. In the game P - Isabel Kelly (So.) against South Carolina that did not count due to drop times she threw her first unofficial career strike out and pitched 3.1 innings for the Dukes before the game was called. Odicci Alexander has dominated in the circle for the Dukes, throwing 22 strike outs in two games. TALE OF TAPE THIS WEEK’S FORECAST JMU JMU is facing two teams that are recognized by national ranks. The Dukes Batting Average .305 will have a mid-week game against RV North Carolina on Wednesday Hits 25 Feb. 19, the Tar Heels were No. 25 before dropping out of the polls. The Strikeouts 23 team will start off at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational and then Batting Average Against .244 travel to the Georgia Classic the following weekend. JMU will appear in five Fielding Percentage .958 tournaments before hitting the ground running in CAA conference play. UNC Batting Average .285 THE LAST INNING Hits 77 JMU had a historic 2019 season beating No.1 5 Michigan in the NCAA Scoring 59 Regional to adavance to the NCAA L.A. Super Regional. This was the Extra-Base Hits 23 second time in program history that JMU softball reached the Super RBI 49 Finals. The Dukes fell short losing to the No. 2 UCLA. THe Bruins went on Slugging Percentage .426 to win the Softball College World Series. The team finished with a record On-Base Percentage .361 of 51-10, 20-1 in CAA games and tabbed the programs fifth CAA Title. The Stolen Bases 25-33 Dukes finsihed 13th in the final 2019 USA Today/NFCA Poll.
