Scripture Reflection I Can’t Wait! How many times have we uttered the phrase, “I can’t wait” in anticipation of something? It can feel like we spend days and weeks waiting for the next milestone, the next event, the next thing to celebrate. Today, we find ourselves at the first Sunday of Advent, hearing in Mark’s Gospel that we Mass Intentions do not know the hour or the time when the Lord is coming. We know that we are approaching the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior in SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2020 just a few short weeks. We know it is going to happen, yet do we find ourselves saying, “I can’t 7:30 a.m. Al Stohler wait for ?” 9:00 a.m. Dick Morby The season of Advent can be a confusing time 10:30 a.m. Caddy & Bob Williamson because on the one hand we are asked to slow down 12 Noon Peggy Kane and have joyful anticipation of Christ’s arrival. We are invited to be grateful for the waiting and to find MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2020 hope in the assurance that all for which we desire 6:30 a.m. Rick Davison will be fulfilled. Yet, while we are slowing down and 9:00 a.m. Joseph Leach feeling grateful, on the other hand, the outside world is asking us to move faster. We can feel TUESDAY, DECEMBER 01, 2020 pushed to get more. We are constantly asked what 6:30 a.m. Michael Nabbia we want for and we can feel pressure to buy more and fill the void with the unnecessary. 9:00 a.m. Susan Skiptunas A few years ago, I stumbled across an Advent WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 02, 2020 activity that I found to be a good practice. It invites one to ask themselves, 6:30 a.m. Louis J. Marcozzi 9:00 a.m. Lorie McGreal What do you want for Christmas? Take a piece of paper and divide it into two columns. Mark THURSDAY, DECEMBER 03, 2020 one column "Mine" and the other "God's." Now make an honest list of your wants and desires 6:30 a.m. John Marrone for the holidays. You may be surprised how 9:00 a.m. Augusta Taylor many things you list under "God's" column. Pray over your list as you prepare for Christmas and FRIDAY, DECEMBER 04, 2020 get ready for the coming of the Lord. 6:30 a.m. Kelly Wright As young children, we spend December in anticipation 9:00 a.m. Joe Swift of receiving gifts and having Santa come to our house. If we are honest with ourselves, as adults, some of us are still SATURDAY, DECEMBER 05, 2020 excited to receive gifts. Young or old, we are all given the 9:00 a.m. Thomas Stenson opportunity to spend the month of December, 5:00 p.m. Franklin Glass acknowledging all that we have already been given and to show gratitude to Jesus for His unceasing love and mercy. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 06, 2020 Advent is not simply a waiting game for Christmas morning so we can receive gifts under the tree. Advent is a 7:30 a.m. In Memory of Sharpless Family time to wait and be grateful for the gifts from the Lord that 9:00 a.m. Pia Farnesi we have already received and receive each and every new 10:30 a.m. Gerald Zimmerman day that we are given. Christmas Novena November 30th is the Feast of St Andrew who the Orthodox tradition refers to as the “first called” because he was the first disciple called by Jesus. St.Andrew quickly shared his experience and introduced his own brother, Simon, to the Messiah. In that same spirit, this Christmas Novena which begins on St. Andrew’s feast day, invites us all to look to the moment of Jesus’ birth Sunday, Novmeber 29, December 6, and 13 and ask for the Lord’s help.
