SPIAGGIE ARGENTARIO

MONTE ARGENTARIO, APART FROM HAVING A WONDERFUL TURQUOISE SEA AND BEING ONE OF THE MOST UNSPOILT SCENIC PARTS OF COASTLINE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN

Monte Argentario, is also home to many beautiful beaches which is once again a deciding factor into what makes it such an exceptional holiday destina- tion. The beaches vary a great deal in terms of size, shape and type which further illustrates that there really is something for everybody.

On the wild and unspoilt west coast of Monte Ar- gentario, the beaches are much smaller and seclud- ed due to the slightly harder access. For this reason beaches and small coves residing on the western side are relatively uncrowded even in the height of summer– indeed some of these beaches can only be accessed by boat!

BY BOAT

One of the best way to discover Argentario’s hidden beaches and caves, as well as the nearby islands is by boat. Isola Rossa can help you with renting a boat from the local marina - Cala Galera. AQUA DOLCE RIVA DEL MARCHESE

Riva del Marchese is sometime refered to as “La Spiaggia Inglese”(the This beautiful sandy crescent can be accessed by following the sign for Hotel English beach), because of its grass lawn terraces. This is the nearest beach to Porto Pellicano. Pass the Hotel and leave your car in the parking area. Walk 100 meters Ercole and Le Viste and has a small beach bar, for drinks and paninis. down a footpath to the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach. LA

La Giannella is located in the north connecting Monte Ar- gentario to the mainland. La Giannella beach is perhaps the more crowded of the two with a series of ‘bagni’ dashed along the beach, most notably a personal favourite Il Tramonto. The sand is fine and the water shallow and warm making it ideal for children and families. Along the Giannella, you can find a whole host of water sports on offer including wind surfing, sea kayaking and kite surfing.

LA FENIGLIA

La Feniglia perhaps the most well known due to its size and sand. The Feniglia beach is an enormous sand dune 6-8 km long and 1½ km wide that connects Monte Argentario to the mainland at in the south of the peninsula and is also a Natural Reserve. This is in easy reach no matter which part of the peninsula you may be staying bur furthermore is rendered very accessible to all beach goers due to its fine sand and the calm warm sea. Another major feature of La Feniglia are the regal umbrella pine trees that are peppered down the centre of the dune providing welcome shade during the heat of the day. There is also a road that runs down the middle of the dune, which is purely for pedestrians or cyclists – in fact bicycles can be rented at the beginning of the beach through- out the season. La Feniglia can found about 1 km outside Porto Ercole. GIGLIO

The island of Giglio is surrounded by beautiful crystal clear emerald water, which are protected from fishing, allowing those who love nature to enjoy the wildlife and their habitat.

GIANNUTRI

The island of Giannutri , the southernmost of the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, is arguably, amongst these, the most fascinating. The cruise to Giannutri allows you to explore the rugged coastline, to smell the scents of the low maquis, or the silence of an island almost uninhabited, which is a rare and unforgettable experience. Without detracting from the exter- nal beauty of the island with its nature trails and the magnif- icent remains of a Roman villa. The island is 15 km from the island of Giglio (12,1 nautical miles) and 23 km from Porto Ercole, its highest point is Monte Mario 83 meters above sea level; It has a surface area of 260 hectares and a coastline 11 km long. Giannutri’s nickname “Isola dei Gabbiani” refers to the presence of a large colony of herring gulls.
