Generic OFFLINE AutoStart (Auto Start) Macro Failed Error Resolution CE ChemStation

USE EXTREME CAUTION. Improper modification of the WIN.INI file can result in a failure of your WINDOWS® system to initialize properly.

It is recommended you make a backup copy of your WIN.INI prior to making the modifications suggested in this document Note: The WIN.INI backup procedures listed below require a formatted floppy disk be present in the floppy drive.

WIN.INI Backup Procedure (Windows® 95 / Windows NT®) 1. From the Windows® select the Start button 2. From the select Programs 3. From the Programs menu select Windows Explorer 4. Pull down the View menu and select Options 5. Disable (remove check) Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered – select OK button on panel. 6. Open the C:\WINDOWS (WINNT for NT) subdirectory 7. Find file WIN.INI 8. on the WIN.INI file and select Send To 9. From the Send To menu select 3 ½ Floppy (A)

Modify the WIN.INI file to default Method and/or sequence

1. Start the SYSEDIT application

A. From the Task Bar, on START B. From the START menu, select RUN C. In the 'Open:' command box enter SYSEDIT D. Select the OK button

2. Select the WIN.INI file for modification

A. Select the panel with WIN.INI in the title

3. Search for appropriate PCS section in the WIN.INI file

A. Search / Find B. Enter PCS,n (where n is the instrument number where the error occurred) C. Select the Find Next button D. Select the Cancel button

4. Within the [PCS,n] section, modify the Method name to default by scrolling down to find the line that begins with _MethFile$= Unless already set, change the line to read: _MethFile$=DEF_CE.M

5. Within the [PCS,n] section, modify the sequence name to default by scrolling down (or up) to find the line that begins _SEQFILE$= Unless already set, change the line to read: _SEQFILE$=DEF_CE.S

6. Save the modified WIN.INI file to disk

A. Pull down the File menu and select Save

7. Exit SYSEDIT

A. Pull down the File menu and select Exit

Rename OFFLINE Configuration Register

1. Select the Start button on the Windows® TaskBar and then select Programs and Windows Explorer

2. From the Programs menu select Windows Explorer

3. On the LEFT side of the Explorer panel, find the “C” drive {drive description followed by (C:)} - on it

4. On the LEFT side of the Explorer panel, find the HPCHEM subdirectory - on it

5. On the LEFT side of the Explorer panel, find the instrument number subdirectory (1,2,3 or 4) in which the current problem exists - on it

6. On the RIGHT side of the Explorer panel, find the file: CONF_OFF.REG – on it

7. Select the Rename function

8. Change the file name to CONF_OFF.BAK

9. Close Explorer

Restart the ChemStation session (default method and/or sequence will be loaded).
