She competed in many events in 1929, taking a medal in the Victory Trial and the 24 Hour Trial.

The toughest trail on the calendar was the Scott. Norah had spectated at it in previous years but chose to ride it in 1929. This resulted in considerable publicity for Baker, because she not only finished … but won the Ladies Prize (a set of teaspoons) and was featured on a Pathe cinema newsreel of the event.

Despite the publicity gained for the Baker motorcycle, the firm was in financial difficulty, and early in 1930, it was taken over by the James Cycle Co who began to make much the same models under the James name.

This change brought Norah a unique opportunity. Early in 1930, the first Pioneer Run from London to Brighton was held. A number of firms who had been producing motorcycles before 1915 considered it as a chance to show off their longevity, reputation and expertise as well as their new products. There was to be a Ladies’ Team with Marjorie Cottle on a BSA, Betty Lermitt on a Rudge and Norah on a 1913 James two-stroke.

The James was being provided by the factory. It appears, though, to have been in something less than concours condition.
