Gadsden museum This classic Territorial Style house was built around 1860 and enlarged in the 1870s. It is an example of a classic territorial style home with a central hallway with rooms to either side. It was established as a museum and dedicated to Col. Albert J. Fountain in 1931. With a replica of the old Mesilla jail where Billy the Kid was held while awaiting trial and featuring artifacts dating back to the 1500s, the Gadsden Museum holds private collections of many historic items. It is now operated by Mary Alexander Bird, an 8th generation Mesillera.
