D-BACKS ACQUIRE J.D. MARTINEZ FROM TIGERS FOR DAWEL LUGO, SERGIO ALCANTARA AND JOSE KING

Martinez, 29, a 2015 All-Star and Louisville Slugger® Silver Slugger™ Award winner, is third in the AL since 2014 with a .551 , trailing only (.581) and (.564) and fourth with a .912 OPS, behind Trout (.992), Ortiz (.937) and (.917). Additionally, his .300 average during that span is sixth and his 99 home runs are 13th.

In 57 games with the Tigers in 2017, Martinez .305 (61-for-200) with 13 doubles, 16 home runs, 39 RBI, a .630 slugging pct. and a 1.018 OPS. Since being activated from the disabled list on May 12 (sprained ligament in right foot), he ranks among AL leaders in slugging percentage (2nd), extra-base hits (4th, 31), OPS (5th), total bases (T-5th, 126), home runs (T-6th), on-base percentage (8th, .388) and RBI (T-11th).

Martinez, who was the first player in Tigers history to hit 10 home runs in their initial 22 games of the season, was recently named AL Player of the Week for July 14-16, his second weekly honor of the season (fourth career), after .455 (5-for-11) with 1 , 2 home runs, 7 RBI and a 1.591 OPS.

Martinez is also batting .474 (18-for-38) with 4 doubles, 6 home runs, 11 RBI, a 1.105 slugging percentage and a 1.661 OPS off left-handers this season, and .293 (188-for-642) over his career.

Last season, the Miami native posted his third straight, 20-home campaign, hitting .307 (141-for-460) with a career-high 35 doubles, 22 home runs, 68 RBI and a .908 OPS. He finished among AL leaders in on-base (7th, .373) and slugging percentage (7th, .535), OPS (7th) and average (8th).

In 2015, Martinez established career highs in home runs (38), runs scored (93), RBI (102), hits (168) and games played (158). In addition to his All-Star nod and , he was named Tiger of the Year by the Detroit chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, and was a finalist for the Rawlings® as an .

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder has hit .283 (735-for-2,596) with 155 doubles, 123 home runs, 411 RBI and a .835 OPS over 7 Major League seasons with the Houston Astros (2011-13) and Tigers (2014-17). Martinez was drafted by Houston in the 20th round in 2009, and signed by Detroit as a Minor League free agent on March 24, 2014.

Lugo, 22, played in 88 games for Double-A Jackson this season, hitting .282 (96-for-341) with 21 doubles, 4 triples, 7 homers and 43 RBI. He spent parts of the last 3 seasons in the D-backs’ organization (2015-17) after being acquired on August 8, 2015, from the for INF Cliff Pennington.

Alcantara, 21, appeared in 86 games at -A Advanced Visalia in 2017, hitting .279 (95-for-340) with 15 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers and 28 RBI. He spent 5 years in the D-backs’ system (2013-present) after being signed as a non- drafted free agent on July 10, 2012.

King, 18, played in 13 games for the Rookie AZL D-backs this season, hitting .261 (12-for-46) with 2 triples and 9 RBI. He played 2 seasons in the D-backs’ system (2016-17) after signing as a non-drafted free agent on Oct. 21, 2015.
