Descriptive Summary Creator: Various Title: Brooklyn Theater Playbills and Programs Collection Date Span: 1875-1972 Abstract: The Brooklyn Theater Playbills and Programs Collection consists of 800 playbills and programs for motion pictures, musical concerts, high school commencement exercises, lectures, photoplays, vaudeville, and burlesque, as well as the more traditional offerings such as plays and operas, all from Brooklyn theaters. Quantity: 2.25 linear feet Location: Brooklyn Collection Map Room, cabinet 11 Repository: Brooklyn Public Library – Brooklyn Collection Reference Code: BC0071 Scope and Content Note The 800 items in the Brooklyn Theater Playbills and Programs Collection, which occupies 2.25 cubic feet, easily refute the stereotypes of Brooklyn as provincial and insular. From the late 1880s until the 1940s, the period covered by the bulk of these materials, the performing arts thrived in Brooklyn and were available to residents right at their doorsteps. At one point, there were over 200 theaters in Brooklyn. Frequented by the rich, the middle class and the working poor, they enjoyed mass popularity. With materials from 115 different theaters, the collection spans almost a century, from 1875 to 1972. The highest concentration is in the years 1890 to 1909, with approximately 450 items.

People were quoted saying he had no friends and Robert Blake who worked with both Elliott and Lane couldn't be quoted by the author who said he just wouldn't publish anything with that nasty of language. I looked forward to watching it every week when aired in syndication. Lane starred as Red Ryder from to , and when Republic lost the rights to the character due to a clerical error, the studio quickly created another series for the popular Lane, giving him a new nickname Rocky and a new sidekick, Eddy Waller. Less well-known is that Allan Lane also had an earlier movie career, before he became a fast-riding cowboy. He was moody, had a hard time empathizing with others and was a perfectionist who was serious about his work.

Biographical / Historical Republic Pictures was a small production company based in Los Angeles, California, that specialized in "B" genre films (especially Western and crime films), film serials, comedies, and other low-budget films. It was one of the "Poverty Row" studios in Hollywood churning out mass-market films from the 1920s through the 1950s, but was noted for the quality of much of its output given the limited resources available and the occasional participation of higher profile directors (Frank Borzage and John Ford among others) and actors (including Joan Crawford and John Wayne). Herbert Yates, who owned the prominent film processing laboratory, Consolidated Film Industries, founded Republic Pictures after purchasing a handful of smaller production companies. Republic was also responsible for technical innovations including a color film process in the 1930s that was cheaper to produce than Technicolor and an in-house widescreen format in the 1950s.

  • Hollywood Movie Surveyors: the “R” Rated Version (A) (L) (N) (S) (V) – but NO (D) !?!
Hollywood Movie Surveyors: The “R” Rated Version (A) (L) (N) (S) (V) – BUT NO (D) !?! John F. BROCK, Australia Key words: SUMMARY Amongst my first collection of movies in which surveying scenes were contained, there were only two which contained content which in any way could be construed as sexy or violent. However, of subsequent findings which have come to my attention the same wholesome predominance certainly cannot be declared, as lewd scenes of voyeurism, sex and nudity, along with abundant violence, are featuring in much greater proportion. Even though one scene is graphically savage resulting in the grisly demise of the geological surveyor, others tend towards the melodramatic and quite unbelievable when surveyors or their assistants are seen using the theodolite as a defensive weapon or employing survey marker stakes to crack over the heads of rival surveying teams. In two of the movies, the surveying instrument is utilised to spy upon unknowing victims who have very few, if any, clothes upon their person, thus portraying the users in quite an unsavoury manner. On the lighter side of this brand new collection of Hollywood surveying footage we even see Secret Agent 007 encouraged to inspect the survey marks on an oil pipeline set out, by his voluptuous femme fatale, Electra, in “The World Is Not Enough”, more surveyors having their hats shot off in another “Duke” classic, and surveys of plant roots in a community garden in an episode of “Dharma and Greg”. All in all, this is yet another fantastic collage of surveying in the immortal traditions of Hollywood entertainment, but may I suggest that children be suitably screened from access to this naughty but nice sequel of saucy silver screen surveying !! Now cover the eyes and ears of the children, the squeamish and the prudish, and sit back, and occasionally on the edge of your seats, for a very adult viewing of surveying in Hollywood movies … and enjoy – very much !!
