Duluth--- One-hundred-fifty-six UMD seniors are gaining first-hand experience in area schools during winter quarter as part of their teacher train- ing.

Dr. Hubert H. Loy, director of student teaching, said 90 students are assigned to Duluth and area secondary schools and 66 are in off campus elemen- tary schools.

Each candidate for the B.S. or teaching degree is required to spend the equivalent of one academic quarter as a student teacher. He is guided by the in-school professional teacher and is visited periodically by a UM D super- visor,
