2 | SUFFOLK COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Chairman & Chief 11010100010101100100010010101101010001001 Executive’s Report

We have great pleasure in presenting the Trustees’ Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 30 June 2019.

Over the past nine years as a trustee, six of which I have spent as Chairman, it has 110010010100101011010100110011001101000 been an incredible privilege to be part of a Foundation that has grown from a small start-up of Suffolk enthusiasts, to the central and vital resource that it has now become for all those in Suffolk seeking to change local lives.

Each year we have grown stronger, more effective and more ambitious in our intent to make Suffolk a better place to live for everyone. We have raised over £45M so far to support the essential work of local charities and community groups, without whom many of our most vulnerable would quite simply have nowhere to turn. 11001001001001101001100111100100110010110 Whilst I fully intend to remain a close and enthusiastic supporter of the Foundation’s work, I would very much like to take this opportunity to thank every person who has stepped up so passionately including our incredible band of staff, James Buckle, DL trustees, volunteers and donors – we must all continue working TOGETHER for Chairman an even brighter future for us all.

It is with great pleasure that I can confirm that the Foundation continues to 0110101000101010110101000101101001110101100 develop well and in presenting this Annual Report, you will see from our Statement of Financial Activity (for the year ended 30th June), that we have achieved record levels of income, grantmaking and endowment fund growth. This is a wonderful achievement but, more importantly, are the numbers of beneficiaries who are directly being supported through your generosity (as shown on the inside cover). This is a truly heart-warming accomplishment and, on behalf of those people who you have helped, can I thank the army of volunteers, the tireless charities and community groups, the generosity of donors and funders, and all those who 0110101000110010011001100110010001000001 believe that TOGETHER, we can make a difference.

For the Foundation team, our year end is a little bittersweet, for we say goodbye to two long serving trustees, Iain Jamie and James Buckle. Iain has chaired our Development Committee with passion and energy and in the process, has left a real legacy through establishing our Sports Fund, as well as contributing to some of the most memorable events that we have held over recent years. James has served the Foundation for nine years, and he too will be sorely missed. On a personal note, I could not have wished for a more supportive and ambitious chair, 11001001110001001101001100111100100110010101 a sentiment that is felt by the whole team. Under his stewardship and through a Stephen Singleton Chief Executive subtle mix of compassion, challenge and fun, the Foundation has continued to fulfil its potential.

As we look to the future, we welcome our new chair, George Vestey and will continue to give our all to help those in need.

In September 2019, trustees, patrons and our executive and staff team came together at two events to celebrate the amazing contribution that James Buckle has made to Suffolk Community Foundation as its Chairman.

We look forward to continuing to work with you in the future on a number of projects - We welcome George Vestey as with a particular focus on young people. our new Chairman, following a very productive year of working in close partnership with him as High Sheriff of Suffolk during 2018/2019.
