  • Roughrider General Managers
Roughrider General Managers Jeremy O’Day 2015, 2019-Current Jeremy O’Day was named vice president of football operations & general manager on January 18, 2019. This is O’Day’s second tenure as the Riders’ general manager after he was officially named the franchises 15th general manager on August 31, 2015 – a positional he held on an interim basis for the final nine games of that season. The former Roughriders offensive lineman moved into the front office after retiring as a player in February 2011, accepting the position of football operations co-ordinator. In 2012 he was named assistant general manager, a position he held for the next four years. In December of 2015, O’Day was named assistant vice president of football operations & administration under Chris Jones. In this role, O’Day led many day-to-day football operations activities, including player evaluations, contract negotiations, and co-ordinating training camp, mini camps and free-agent camps. He also participated in the scouting of NFL, NCAA and U Sports games. O’Day’s playing career in the CFL began in 1997, when he joined the Toronto Argonauts after a standout career at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He played two seasons with the Argos, winning a Grey Cup with them in 1997. In 1999, O’Day signed as a free agent with Saskatchewan and spent the next 12 seasons on the Riders’ offensive line. He started 202 regular-season games for Saskatchewan, which ranks him 12th on the club’s all-time list of games played. He also appeared in 16 playoff games and three Grey Cup games with the Roughriders, helping them win the CFL title in 2007.

  • Russ Jackson on CFL.Ca Comments That “Good Quarterbacks Like Russ Jackson Are a Special Kind
Devon Forbes Mathew Neal PED 201 Prof. Byl March 30 th , 2009 A Biography of Russell Stanley Jackson Displaying one of the finest athletes representing Canada is Russell “Russ” Stanley Jackson. On the day of July 28 th , 1936 in Hamilton, Ontario comes a child who is to be recognized as one of the greatest contributors to genuine passion for the love of athletics and sportsmanship both on and off the playing field. Jackson’s early life truly defined what his passion was: sports. Jackson excelled as an athlete in his careers in basketball, hockey, and baseball. Many spectators that watched Jackson on the playing field often came to the conclusion that as his skill level rose, so did the fortunes of his fellow players. Jackson was truly a beneficial addition to any team he took part in. Russ played several sports and loved the competition involved in it. Baseball was a large part of his life from early childhood to adolescence. Jackson was involved in some semi‐pro baseball in Hamilton for a period of time; however, he grew out of it. Jackson began to develop a passion for football, yet his father felt that there was no insurance after the football season ended. Instead, he felt academics were a priority. Despite Jackson’s father’s disagreement with playing football during school, Russ got his neighbour to sign the permission to play (Canadian Heroes with Canada Heroes). Jackson had the intent of playing defensive back and dominated playing in the senior level while he, himself, was still a junior.

  • Tony Gabriel, One of the Best Tight Ends in the History of the Canadian Football League
Tony Gabriel, one of the best tight ends in the history of the Canadian Football league. Tony was born and raised in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. He started his career off in the CFL by playing for the Hamilton Tiger - Cats from 1971-1974. He then went and played for Ottawa Rough Riders (now know as Saskatchewan Rough Riders) from 1975-1981. He won the Grey Cup twice in his 72' & 76' seasons. 1972 Tony won it with Hamilton and 1976 Tony won it with Ottawa Tony was named a Canadian Football League All-Star 8 times in his 10 year career. Tony Gabriel has received almost every award possible for an athlete in the Canadian Football League. In 1974, 1976, 1977, & 1978 Tony Gabriel was voted for Most Outstanding Canadian in the Grey Cup. In 1976 Tony led the Canadian Football League in receiving yards with 1320 yards, then in 1977 with 1362 yards. For a tight-end to lead the Canadian Football League in receiving yards is un-heard of. In 1978 Gabriel was awarded the Most Outstanding Player in the Canadian Football League. Then in 1972 Tony was selected All- East All-Star team for the Canadian Football League. Tony was selected to the All-Canadian All-Star team. Tony was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1985. To top it off Tony was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. So easy enough to say he is no regular football player, he is one of the best to ever been watched and cheered by adoring fans, he is one of the best to ever graced a Hamilton Tiger - Cats jersey, or an Ottawa Rough Riders jersey.
