Rather, it's the Irish Youth Music Awards, and locally, the Carlow Regional Youth Services (CRYS) is working with them to find the brightest would-be stars in the area. "This is not the X Factor and there will be no cruel disembowelling of people's efforts. This will be a positive, constructive exercise in the company of one of Ireland's most respected music business personalities. Artists should not feel in any way intimidated by this great opportunity," a spokesman for Hot Press magazine said. Anyone interested has an opportunity to get involved because each county brings a team of young people to Dublin. There will be expert help on hand for PR, photography, web design and other music business essentials. Entrants can play any style of music they want, must have at least one original song but they must hurry because closing date is 21 February. Local winners will then go on and represent the county at the national finals on 12 April. The panel of experts includes Jackie Flayden (Hot Press magazine), Willie Kavanagh, (head of EMI Records Ireland and chairman of IRMA), Liza Geddes, head of media at Friction PR (Snow Patrol, Villagers), William Ryan, music barrister, and Keith Johnson, marketing manager with IMRO. If you are passionate about music and are looking for an opportunity to perform or have your own song performed, call Paul Amond on 085 7897279 or drop in to The Vault, Burrin Street, Carlow. -5- Corkman Circulation: 6911 Thursday, 20 February 2014 Area of Clip: 89200mm² Page: 78 Page 1 of 1 HAVEYOU AN EVENTSUITABLE FORTHIS PAGE? • 29Th June 2003 Pigs May Fly Over TV Studios by Bob Quinn If Brian
29th June 2003 Pigs May Fly Over TV Studios By Bob Quinn If Brian Dobson, Irish Television’s chief male newsreader had been sacked for his recent breach of professional ethics, pigs would surely have taken to the air over Dublin. Dobson, was exposed as doing journalistic nixers i.e. privately helping to train Health Board managers in the art of responding to hard media questions – from such as Mr. Dobson. When his professional bilocation was revealed he came out with his hands up – live, by phone, on a popular RTE evening radio current affairs programme – said he was sorry, that he had made a wrong call. If long-standing Staff Guidelines had been invoked, he might well have been sacked. Immediately others confessed, among them Sean O’Rourke, presenter of the station’s flagship News At One. He too, had helped train public figures, presumably in the usual techniques of giving soft answers to hard questions. Last year O’Rourke, on the live news, rubbished the arguments of the Chairman of Primary School Managers against allowing advertisers’ direct access to schoolchildren. O’Rourke said the arguments were ‘po-faced’. It transpires that many prominent Irish public broadcasting figures are as happy with part-time market opportunities as Network 2’s rogue builder, Dustin the Turkey, or the average plumber in the nation’s black economy. National radio success (and TV failure) Gerry Ryan was in the ‘stable of stars’ run by Carol Associates and could command thousands for endorsing a product. Pop music and popcorn cinema expert Dave Fanning lucratively opened a cinema omniplex.

  • Live Review: Kodaline | Nouse
Nouse Web Archives Live Review: Kodaline Page 1 of 2 News Comment MUSE. Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Muse › Music › News Features Reviews Playlists Live Review: Kodaline Francesca Donovan travels the long path to Fibbers to report on Kodaline’s performance Tuesday 5 March 2013 The charismatic quartet open with the ethereal ‘Lose Your Mind’, accumulating in Kodaline’s signature crashing chorus line — an intriguing introduction to the set. They continue in a predictable but inescapable manner for a band with a relatively small repertoire, playing a selection of songs from their upcoming album In a Perfect World. Of course, including the justly famous ‘All I Want’ their debut single that shot to fame and has been heard by millions (knowingly or not) thanks to Google’s ‘Zeitgeist 2012’ television advert. A haunting and moving performance of a very good song. Much in the same vein, Kodaline’s other songs are beautifully crafted pieces of music, simple, memorable melodies being the template for all; a formula sure to generate popular appeal. The performance is polished and nearly without fault. There’s always a danger when dense rock invades smaller venues; sometimes the melodies are lost to the heavy drumming and bass, resulting in headaches rather than gratification, and the result can be clunky rather than chunky. Kodaline avoid this pitfall entirely. Steve, Mark, Vinny and Jason’s instruments blend easily together to create one loud and powerful sound: a true band, not simply four individuals contributing their own disconnected musical components. Throughout the set, we were treated to persistently solid timekeeping from drummer, Vinny, and faultless fretwork from all three guitarists.

The Gerry Ryan Show on 2FM and The Death of Diana, Princess of Wales A Case-Study, September 1997 "Study submitted in part fulfillment of the requirement for the award of Master of Arts Degree in Communications & Cultural Studies” NAME: Ciara Me Carrón DATE: 6th February 1998 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I would like to express my gratitude to the staff of Dublin City University for their understanding and support throughout my course of study, especially Stephanie MacBride. Thanks also to Clare Byrne, Majella Breen, Niall Me Gowan and The Gerry Ryan Show programme team in 2FM. I would further like to acknowledge my gratitude to my family, especially my father, Billy Me Carron for their patience whilst I completed my studies. Finally, this project is dedicated to the loving memory of my mother, Anne Me Carron, who died 11th November, 1997, RIP. SYNOPSIS In the modem world, there are a proliferation of media choices available to the discerning, (and not so discerning), audience. It is a rare moment indeed when, in the crowded television, radio and print media schedules, something approaching a united front occurs, and only one subject is debated, only one topic is talked about, everywhere. The number of times this has happened could be counted on the fingers of one hand. The death of Diana, Princess of Wales was one such media moment. For those of us who were not around for the death and funeral of John F. Kennedy, this was the first media-event we experienced, in terms of the tragic death and funeral of such a world famous person.
