Wednesday 14 October 2015 Base Hospital upgrade

State Liberal Leader has today confirmed that a Liberal-National Government will build the $100 million Stage two upgrade of Warrnambool Base Hospital.

Mr Guy was joined by Shadow Health Minister Mary Wooldridge and Liberal Candidate for South West Coast Roma Britnell for the announcement in Warrnambool today.

The $100 million upgrade would include the construction of a new three-storey building to house an expanded emergency department.

It would also include new and additional operating theatres, upgrades to medical imaging and diagnostic facilities and expanded and refurbished inpatient and day surgery facilities.

In the past decade, presentations to the Warrnambool Base Hospital Emergency Department have grown by almost 100 per cent. Last year there were more than 26,000 Emergency Department presentations.

Comments attributable to Liberal Leader Matthew Guy:

It is vital that South West communities continue to have access to state-of-the-art health facilities that meet the future needs of a growing and ageing population.

If won’t build stage two of the Warrnambool Base Hospital upgrade then a Liberal-National Government will.

Comments attributable to Shadow Health Minister Mary Wooldridge:

Warrnambool Base Hospital plays a vital role in the health and wellbeing of residents of the South West.

The Stage two upgrade is vital to ensure local families can continue to access high quality healthcare in their community well into the future.

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for South West Coast Roma Britnell:

It is absolutely fantastic that the Liberal Party has committed to the stage two upgrade of the Warrnambool Base Hospital.

I worked as a nurse at the Warrnambool Hospital for more than a decade. The theatres I nursed in are the engine room of the hospital and have barely changed since the mid-eighties.
