THEfirst and chief point of interest in this chapter is, whether the numerous domesticated varieties of the dog have descended from a single wild species, or froin several. Some authors believe that all have descended froin the wolf, or from the jackal, or from anunknown and extinct species. Others again believe, and this of late has been the favourite tenet, that they have descended from several species, extinct and recent, more or less commingled together. We shall probably never be able to ascertain their origin with certainty. Palaeontology does not throw much light on the question, owing, on the one hand, to the close similarity of the skulls of extinct as well as living wolves and jackals, and owing, on the other hand, to Owen, ‘ British Fossil Mammals,’ habits. -
Submission to Allow the Peruvians Hairless Dogs to Run As Sighthounds in Lure Coursing. Peruvians Have Been Lure Coursing In
2019 LURE COURSING MTG – ATTACHMENT 5d Submission to allow the Peruvians Hairless Dogs to run as Sighthounds in Lure Coursing. Peruvians have been Lure Coursing in South Australia since the formation of the South Australian Lure Coursing and Racing Club in 2014. We have been running as CAT dog but have been gaining sighthound scores. We have a Peruvian with a coursing title and plan to take two others to their titles soon. As we believe our breed is a Primitive Sighthound it seems logical to race them as such and enable them to compete and run with other Peruvians in tandem races. On observation the Peruvian courses in a similar way to other primitive hounds and has exactly the same action and drive that is needed to course over rough terrain that is seen in dogs such as the Afghan and Saluki. I have spoken to Lure Coursing Judges who have judged Peruvians coursing and below are some of their comments. When having the pleasure of judging the Peruvian in Adelaide at Lure Coursing I observed that the breed showed the same tendency as a sighthound both on watching and observing where the lure was going and also the running and speed of this breed. They were very attentive to what was around them when it came to the course. Agility for the speed of the dog was very precise with constant watch on the lure, as a sighthound does. This work was commissioned by the Scottish Government to ascertain what effect the total tail docking ban had on working gundogs and terriers and whether legal exemptions to the ban should be made to improve the welfare of working dogs. Three studies were conducted to examine the risk of tail injury, especially in undocked working dogs, as well as details regarding tail injuries: A retrospective internet survey for working dog owners, an analysis of clinical veterinary data, and a prospective study of tail injuries. -

The exact account of how this lovable breed came to be is unknown. However, it is believed a Bostonian imported a bulldog/English terrier cross named Judge from England and from him, developed the Boston Terrier. The Boston Terrier is a compactly built, short backed, clean cut dog. This dog is relatively easy to train and well adapted to home living. They are great family dogs that enjoy socializing with people and kids, while also being gentle and quiet. They are well mannered and obedient, however, can be territorial of their owners, which can often spark aggressive behavior towards other pets and strangers. Due to their short noses and inability to both cool and heat air, Boston Terriers struggle to adapt to the outside temperature and should be kept indoors. Their short noses also lead to plenty of snorting, drooling and snoring. The Boston Terrier is prone to flatulence so be prepared for some unpleasant smells around these big eared canines. PREAMBLE: These dogs have been kept as a peculiarity because of their genetic nature, the procreation of dogs with and without hair in the same litter. Lost in the darkness of time the naked variety reached a major milestone when it was officially recognized as a breed native to Peru in 1985, during the ordinary Assembly of the FCI at Amsterdam city, thanks to the initiative of the Cynologist Ermanno Maniero, who did the first breed standard, it was possible that this was registered as a new breed under the name of Peruvian Hairless Dog with the number 310 of the nomenclature. The recognition of the hairless dog did not eradicate the coated relative into oblivion. Disdained from any breeding program, its current recognition in the light of developments in the study of its genome emphasizes the genetic value of the breed and contributes to its development and preservation. The recognition of the coated variety, for show and for breeding, favours the expansion of genetic variability, improving the breed’s strength and attracts new breeders. Initially to be registered, the coated variety must be the product of two hairless dogs duly registered in a stud book or breeding record. -
