  • 1 Introduction “Road Rage” Is a Potentially Dangerous Phenomenon
1 Introduction “Road rage” is a potentially dangerous phenomenon that, given our individual proximity to driving or riding in automobiles, has broad ranging personal and societal impacts. As such, road rage has recently been the subject of significant public and media attention, and sensational stories about “road rage” fill the newspapers (Carter, 2007; Eckinger, 2007; Fumento, 1998; Richmond, 2007; Thompson, 2007), magazines (Best & Furedi, 2001; A. Ferguson, 1998; Jenson, 2007; Liu, 2006) and television news ("Best and worst cities for road rage.," 2006; "Miami Road Rage Fight," 2006; "Police: Man Pointed Shotgun At Car In Road Rage Incident," 2007; "Road Rage rears its head," 2006). Pervasive public interest in “road rage” has led to a proliferation of websites and blogs that attempt to serve a variety of functions from helping upset drivers vent their anger ("AboveAverageDriver.com"; "Road Rage - A blog about driving in Houston"; "RoadRagers.com") to electronic vigilantism in which users can report the locations, car makes, and license plate numbers of offending drivers ("PlateRage.com"; "Platewire.com"). Another website offers books of flip-cards with large print—and mostly obscene—statements that tell drivers how their road behavior is affecting the card-waving driver ("RoadRageCards.com"). Road rage is not unique to America and has been the topic of a great deal of media, research, and government attention in numerous countries across the 2 globe including the United Kingdom, the Philippines, India, Israel, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Australia (Alave, 2007; Best & Furedi, 2001; Brewer, 2000; James & Nahl, 2000a; Liu, 2006; Mdletshe, 2007; Muhammad, 2007; Shanthi, 2007; Yagil, 2001).

MRTS 4450/5660.001: IT’S NOT TV, IT’S HBO! University of North Texas Fall 2020 Professor: Jennifer Porst Email: [email protected] Class: T 2:30-5:20P Office Hours: By appointment Course Description: Since its debut in the early 1970s, HBO has been a powerhouse in American television and film. They regularly dominate the nominations for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, and their success has profoundly affected the television and film industries and the content they produce. Through an examination of the birth and development of HBO, we will see what a closer analysis of the channel can tell us about television, Hollywood, and American culture over the last four decades. We will also look to the future to see what HBO might become in the increasingly global and digital television landscape. Student Learning Goals: This course will provide students with an opportunity to: • Understand the industrial conditions that led to the birth and success of HBO • Gain insight into the contemporary challenges and opportunities faced by the media industries • Develop critical thinking skills through focused analysis of readings and HBO content • Communicate clearly and confidently in class discussion and presentations Required Texts: 1. Edgerton, Gary R. and Jeffrey P. Jones, Eds. The Essential HBO Reader. Lexington, KY: The University Press of Kentucky, 2008. Available as an e-book via the UNT Library website. 2. Subscription to HBO Go/Now 3. Additional required readings and screenings will be available for free through the class website. 4. Students will need to register for use of the Packback Questions site, which should cost between $10- 15 for the semester.

The woman who has changed me and made me a better person. She stood by me during trying times and encouraged me to serve God with all I have. She supported me when days became dark and friends few. She became an inspiration and supported me financially, morally and socially. I also dedicate this thesis to my sons, Mahlabe,Tshepo and Lehlohonolo, who gave me enough time to study and never complained that I give them little time because of my studies. They have been children up to this day and were never involved in activities that brought shame to the family. Keep it up boys! I will always be proud of you. 1 ACKNOWLEGDEMENT I want to thank you Prof. M.J.S Masango who was my minister and always advised me to seek God first and all would follow. Beshear Provides Update on Fight Against COVID-19 Visit the Governor’s Facebook page to watch today’s news conference FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 4, 2020) – On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear detailed the state’s concerted efforts to combat the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). Gov. Beshear updated Kentuckians on new case numbers and Healthy at Work announcements. Gov. Beshear also noted that he asked all Kentuckians to observe a moment of silence at 2 p.m. EDT to honor George Floyd as loved ones and leaders remembered him in Minneapolis. The Governor delayed his news conference Thursday until the memorial service concluded. “Today, the best thing I can do is let the words of Mr. Floyd’s memorial lead the way and renew our commitment to make sure the world looks different moving forward,” Gov. Beshear said. Given the memorial service, the Governor’s update on COVID-19 was brief. Case information As of 4 p.m. June 4, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 10,705 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 295 of which were newly confirmed Thursday. Unfortunately, Gov. Beshear reported eight new deaths Thursday, raising the total to 458 Kentuckians lost to the virus. The deaths reported Thursday include an 87-year-old woman from Boone County, a 72-year-old man from Franklin County, an 82-year-old man from Grayson County, a 92-year-old man from Kenton County, a 71-year old woman and 91- and 92-year-old men from Jefferson County and an 86-year-old woman from Metcalfe County.
