The digital certificate, which shows a user’s vaccination status and virus test results, is available for Chinese citizens via a programme on Chinese social media platform WeChat. The certificate is being rolled out to help promote world economic recovery and facilitate cross-border travel. Although the certificate is meant for travel in and out of China, it is currently only available for use by Chinese citizens, and it is not yet mandatory. PM inaugurates Maitri Setu between India and Bangladesh to boost connectivity and enhance economic opportunities for people of both countries Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Maitri Setu on Feni river connecting India and Bangladesh will help improve connectivity and enhance economic opportunities for people of both the countries. Virtually inaugurating the Maitri Setu on Feni river connecting Sabroom in South Tripura to Ramgarh in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Modi said that the entire region is being developed as a trade corridor between India and Bangladesh. He said that along with Tripura, it will also benefit Assam, Mizoram and Manipur which will get connected with Bangladesh and other countries of SouthEast Asia. Union Health Ministry said, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed two crore 30 lakh. The Ministry said, more than 43 lakh 74 thousand beneficiaries aged more than 60 years and over seven lakh beneficiaries aged more than 45 years with specific co-morbidities were vaccinated till date. Exercise Dustlik-II: Indian Army to showcase counter-terror skills At Exercise Dustlik-II between India and Uzbekistan from March 10-19, the Indian Army will showcase its Counter Insurgency (CI) and Counter Terrorism (CT) skills. The focus will be on people-centric intelligence based surgical operations, incorporating technological advancements to minimise collateral damage. The broad aim of the exercise is CI, CT operations in mountainous, rural and urban scenarios under United Nations (UN) mandate and the Army will share the experiences and lessons it has gained in Kashmir. India has a series of joint exercises scheduled in the next financial year beginning April 2021 including with Central Asian Republics — Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan — in addition to Mongolia and Russia as part of its growing engagement with the region. NITI Aayog has said that India’s Electric Vehicle ecosystem has so far focused on overcoming adoption hurdles associated with technology cost, infrastructure availability, and consumer behaviour. Uttarakhand CM Rawat resigns Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned as the chief minister of Uttarakhand, following a meeting with party president J.P. Nadda. Rawat met Governor Baby Rani Maurya at Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation. Rawat, who was scheduled to complete four years in office on 18 March, was summoned to Delhi amid mounting pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership to replace him ahead of the assembly elections due next year. The BJP won the 2017 assembly elections in Uttarakhand with a huge majority of 57 seats and Rawat took over as the chief minister. With this, Rawat joins the list of Uttarakhand CMs who have been unable to complete their term. The only Uttarakhand CM who completed five years in office was late Narayan Dutt Tiwari (2002-07). NISAR will be the first satellite mission to use two different radar frequencies (L-band and S-band) to measure changes in our planet's surface less than a centimetre across 157 new medical colleges approved under CSS in three phases: Government The Union Government said that 157 new medical colleges have been approved under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) in three phases. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Harshvardhan said that these new medical colleges are attached with existing district and referral hospitals. He further said, under the scheme, a new medical college can be taken up by upgradation of a district hospital. In phase-I of the scheme, 58 districts in 20 states and union territories have been approved for establishment of medical colleges. The workshop elaborated on the strategic context of core and non-core asset monetization, along with detailed discussions on the need for and modality of such monetization. India’s political, diplomatic, military and humanitarian support during Bangladesh’s Liberation War played an important role towards Bangladesh’s independence. Nearly 3,900 Indian soldiers gave up their lives and an estimated 10 million Bangladeshi refugees took shelter in India. Now it is about cooperation: Post-Independence, the India-Bangladesh relationship has oscillated as Bangladesh passed through different regimes. The relationship remained cordial until the assassination of Bangladesh’s founding President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in August 15, 1975, followed by a period of military rule and the rise of General Ziaur Rahman who became President and also assassinated in 1981. Relations thawed again between 1982-1991 when a military-led government by General H.M. Ershad ruled the country. Since Bangladesh’s return to parliamentary democracy in 1991, relations have gone through highs and lows. However, in the last decade, India-Bangladesh relations have warmed up, entering a new era of cooperation, and moving beyond historical and cultural ties to become more assimilated in the areas of trade, connectivity, energy, and defence. Peaceful borders: 1/5 Bangladesh and India have achieved the rare feat of solving their border issues peacefully by ratifying the historic Land Boundary Agreement in 2015, where enclaves were swapped allowing inhabitants to choose their country of residence and become citizens of either India or Bangladesh.

About Maitri Setu: • The bridge ‘Maitri Setu’ has been built over the Feni river which flows between the Indian boundary in Tripura State and Bangladesh. • The name ‘Maitri Setu’ symbolizes the growing bilateral relations and friendly ties between India and Bangladesh. • The construction was taken up by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd at a project cost of Rs. 133 Crores. • The 1.9 km long bridge joins Sabroom in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh. • It is poised to herald a new chapter for trade and people to people movement between India and Bangladesh. • With this inauguration, Tripura is set to become the ‘Gateway of North East’ with access to Chittagong Port of Bangladesh, which is just 80 Kms from Sabroom. • The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for setting up an Integrated Check Post at Sabroom, which will ease the movement of goods and passengers between the two countries, provide new market opportunities for products of North-East states and assist seamless movement of passengers to and from India and Bangladesh.
