Gun- ning has been a part of Wright's staffs at both Hofstra and, for the last six years, at Villanova. For Gunning the return to Villanova was a homecoming. A product of Broomall, Pa., Gun- ning graduated from nearby Malvern Prep in 1990 and spent two years as an undergraduate at Villanova before accompanying former head coach Rollie Massimino to UNLV in 1992. In this capacity, he contributed to the devel- opment of such recent Villanova standouts as and , both of whom begin are in their second season of National Bas- ketball Association action in 2007-08. Gunning's role in recruiting has been essential to Villanova's recent success. He played a vital role in the process that brough in such current standouts as Dante Cunningham, Shane Clark and BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Scottie Reynolds as well as a class of incoming 2007 freshmen ranked among the nation's best classes. Prior to his return to VU, Gunning was an integral part of the rebirth Wright orchestrated at Hofstra University for seven seasons. Gun- ning, 34, assisted with recruiting, individual instruction, scouting, and film analysis. Gun- ning also has served as an instructor at the famed camps each off-season. "Brett is known within basketball circles as one of the top assistant coaches in the country," states Wright. Following graduation, Chambers served for one season as an assistant coach at Delaware Val- ley College. In 1999, Chambers was named top varsity assistant coach at Episcopal Academy. 989 Villanova 1graduate Doug West returned to his alma mater when he was named an assistant basketball coach by Jay Wright on Oct. 5, 2007. “We are thrilled to have another member of the Vil- lanova basketball alumni family join our staff,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “Doug is a great addition to our staff because of his experi- ence in the NBA and, most importantly, for the pride he takes in being a part of the Villanova bas- ketball program.” During his four seasons on the Main Line, the 6-7 West was one of the most prolific scorers in Villanova history. He totaled 2,037 points from 1985-89 and still ranks fourth all-time on the school’s scoring list. In 1988, he helped lead the Wildcats to the Elite Eight and was named to the all-Southeast Regional team for his efforts. Wright served as an assistant coach on that Villanova staff. West, 40, was later named to the Big Five Hall of Fame for his work as a Wildcat. After graduating with a degree in communica- tions, West was selected in the second round of the National Basketball Association draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played for the Tim- berwolves for nine seasons, averaging a career-best 19.3 ppg in 1993 and remains ranked third on the team’s all-time list for points (6,216), field goals made (2,530), games played (609) and min- utes played (15,603). Manager of Basketball Operations Jason Donnelly ason Donnelly begins his third season at Vil- Jlanova in 2007-08. In his role as manager of basketball operations he oversees all administrative tasks related to the basketball office, including trav- el, and aids in oversight of the academic progress. “Jason is the rock of our staff,” says Jay Wright. “He is organized, intelligent, passionate and com- mitted. Jason is involved in every aspect of our program, from travel to aca- demics to practice planning and is a major asset to us.” Donnelly came to Villanova from Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va., where he served as the lead assistant coach to Joe Wootten from 1999-2005. Bishop O’Connell finished No. 1 in the state of Virginia and in the national top 25 in each of the past three seasons. Prior to that stint, Donnelly spent two years as an assistant basketball coach at his alma mater, Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Donnelly also brings extensive experience in basketball camps with him. Since 1998 he has been on the staff, as both a coach and commissioner at the camp of legendary high school coach . “ Jason is a young, enthusiastic and experienced basketball coach,” states Jay Wright. “He comes from great bloodlines, having worked for Joe Woot- ten at Bishop O’Connell. His administrative experience has been an invalu- able asset to the Villanova basketball program.” Donnelly and his wife Rachel make their home in Wayne, Pa. In addition to his work at Gonzaga – where he also coached the freshmen team to a 32-7 record from 2004-06 – Urgo developed a non-profit organization, “Playing For Peace, Inc.”, designed to aide in conflict resolution. The organ- ization is based in two locales, Durbin, South Africa and Northern Ireland. Urgo and his wife Kristy will relocate to the Philadelphia area this fall.

ince 1980, Mary Anne Gabuzda has been an integral part of the Vil- Slanova Basketball Family. In her tenure she has served three head coaches as secretary, including Rollie Massimino, , and Jay Wright. She has tirelessly worked behind the scenes and contributed to teams that reached six Elite Eights, one National Invitation Tournament crown (1994) and Villanova’s 1985 NCAA title. “Mares groomed me as an assistant coach and she groomed me as a head coach. She taught me what it is to work at Villanova and what it means to be a part of this Villanova basketball family. She is truly a jewel in the crown of Villanova University,” states Wright. As she embarks upon a new role within Villanova Athletics, the basket- ball family offers its thanks and appreciation to Mary Anne for all of her hours spent working on behalf of the men’s basketball program. Her kind- ness and support have touched countless student-athletes, coaches, and staff members over the last 27 years.
