Quick Start Guide () Accessibility Checker

Introduction:

In this QSG, you will walk you through the “recommended” process for checking accessibility of Google Slides. NOTE: Google Productivity Suite Applications (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc…) are NOT officially supported by the University of North Texas at Dallas.

This guide is offered only as a recommendation to ensure accessibility for disabled students but does not serve as an endorsement of the use of Google Productivity Suite Applications.

Download the Google Slides Presentation:

Download the Google Slides presentation from Google using the Download tool and save a PowerPoint presentation in the *.pptx format.

Quick Start Guide (Google Slides) Accessibility Checker

Run Accessibility Checker in PowerPoint:

You will now open the file you just downloaded in Microsoft PowerPoint. Refer to the appropriate Quick Start Guide for how to run the accessibility checker for your version of MS PowerPoint and run the check on the file. Correct any and all issues that are presented.

Upload to :

Access Google Drive and upload the PowerPoint presentation that you just correct any accessibility issues on. Please note, the file is still in the *.pptx format (image on right below).

Open Corrected File with Google Slides:

Right-click on the corrected Word document and select “Open With >” and then select “Google Slides” from the pop-out list.

Quick Start Guide (Google Slides) Accessibility Checker

The file will open in Google Slides, but in MS Office editing mode. Select “File” and then “Save as Google Slides” to save it back in a Google Slides format with the accessibility changes.

Verify Your Files:

You should now be able to go to Google Drive and you should see 3 copies of the same file. One is the original, one will be the corrected PowerPoint presentation in the *.pptx format, and the final will be the corrected Google Slides presentation.
