CKD Galbraith Reay House 17 Old Road Inverness IV2 3HF 01463 224343 [email protected] GENERAL Rowan Cottage is set in the scattered hamlet of Catlodge close to Laggan village in the Cairngorms National Park. The cottage is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by unspoilt countryside and with far-reaching views across Spey Glen to Cluny Castle and the Cairngorms.

The cottage, which was originally two semi-detached dwellings, has been completely renovated by the current owners to create a delightful family property, where traditional building methods were blended with modern ones to ensure the property retained its historic features and charm whilst taking full advantage of modern techniques and technologies. The interior was stripped back to the bare walls and in doing this the stone fireplaces and old beams were uncovered and are now retained in the modernised interior. In addition, the ceiling was raised to enable the creation of three upper floor bedrooms; high quality oak flooring was put down in many of the room; high quality fittings have been used in the bathrooms and kitchen; while the cloakroom has been designed to allow for easy conversion to a wet room. Most of the rooms on the ground floor have wood burning stoves set in the original fireplaces and these, combined with a high level of insulation and underfloor heating, provide a manageable and economical source of heating.

The Cairngorms National Park was established in 2003 to protect its beautiful and unspoilt landscape and promote a balance between nature and the community. The countryside is varied, from moorlands and mountains, to lush glens and beautiful lochs. There is a wide range of rural pursuits available, some of which are accessible directly from the house and include way-marked walks, hill climbing, shooting and salmon fishing. Aonach Mor (Ben Nevis), Rothiemurchus and Aviemore Ski and Activity Centres are nearby and offer recreation throughout the year and and Newtonmore both have excellent 18 hole golf courses.

Laggan, about 1.5 miles away, has a doctors’ surgery and primary school with nursery department, while nearby Newtonmore has an excellent range of shops and there is a main line railway station both here and at , just 5 miles away. Inverness, about an hour’s drive away, has all the facilities of a modern city including its airport with regular flights to the south and Europe.
