NEW RELEASE for the week of Feb 12, 2021 PRIORITIES & HIGHLIGHTS >> Pre-Order Now!

ADAMS, RYAN "Wednesdays (LP+7”)” (PAX AM) PAXAM006 CD/ LP March 19 street date. Ryan Adams' first in three years, "Wednesdays", is purely raw, vulnerable, and honest. The music takes you on a deep dive exploring the complex heart of Ryan Adams, through a journey of love, pain, and heartbreak. The album so effortlessly creates an immediate connection with anyone who has ever experienced love lost - the type of love that haunts you in quiet places of your mind. While the lyrics walk you through the vast emotional layers of grief, they also remind you of the rich memories of a love that will forever remain a part of you. BENNY THE "Burden Of Proof" (GRISELDA) GRSD581 CD BUTCHER BENNY THE "Burden Of Proof" (GRISELDA) GRSD582 LP BUTCHER February 26 street date. There is no disputing that has arrived. With anticipation now at a fever pitch, Benny The Butcher puts a bow on his and Griselda's genre-shifting year with "Burden Of Proof"; an album that aligns the best rapper alive, with the hottest producer (Hit-Boy) of 2020. Mastered by Guru, "Burden Of Proof" is The Butcher's official level up. With "Burden Of Proof", Benny took his time and holed up in LA with Hit-Boy to craft a masterpiece; and the one producer methodology, though a somewhat new concept for Benny, aids the musical variance, depth and diversity. It's still gritty and vintage, but coupled with the melodic and anthemic production of Hit-Boy; Benny's Pyrex vision raps have never sounded more festival ready. BLUE STONES "Hidden Gems" (EONE) EMCCD28359 CD BLUE STONES "Hidden Gems (cotton (EONE) EMCLP28359 LP candy vinyl)" March 19 street date. Sophomore album from the Windsor duo whowere nominated for a 2020 Juno for Breakthrough Group Of The Year. When Tarek Jafar and Justin Tessier formed The Blue Stones, they were facing uncertainty about who they were and where they were going. But they did know they wanted to make music together, and so they did, writing songs over time and eventually releasing their debut album "Black Holes" in 2018. As confident and self-assured as they are, that record was very much about the pair finding themselves, both musically and existentially, and deciding to pursue the rock 'n' roll dream by jumping into a black hole of the unknown instead of choosing a more ordinary life-path. drew the attention of producer, Paul Meany - the creative force behind band , and who recently worked with , producing their fifth album, "Trench". Working with Meany didn't just lead to The Blue Stones exploring - and creating - music in a different way than they had before, but it also led Jafar to approach and tackle lyrics in an entirely new light. Combined with the band's nuanced and layered approach to their sound, it makes these songs resonate with a powerful emotional intensity. DRY CLEANING "New Long Leg" (4AD) 4AD0254LP LP DRY CLEANING "New Long Leg" (4AD) 4AD0254CD CD DRY CLEANING "New Long Leg (indie (4AD) 4AD0254LPE LP shop edition/yellow)" April 2 street date. Dry Cleaning, The South group of Nick Buxton (drums), Tom Dowse (), Lewis Maynard (bass) and Florence Shaw (vocals) will release "New Long Leg" on 2 April. The 10-track long-player was recorded over two weeks last summer at Rockfield Studios in rural Wales with producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding). Following on from their thrillingly taut 2019 EPs "Boundary Road Snacks And Drinks" and "Sweet Princess", "New Long Leg" is more ambitious and complex, with Shaw's spoken vocals tightly intertwined with the band's restless instrumentals. Dry Cleaning was formed by friends Tom Dowse, Nick Buxton and Lewis Maynard after a karaoke party in 2017 inspired a collaboration. They wrote instrumentally to begin with until six months later Florence Shaw, a visual artist, university lecturer and picture researcher by day - with no prior musical experience - turned up to a band rehearsal armed with reams of her own collected writing and a copy of Michael Bernard Loggins' "Fears Of Your Life" to read out over the music. Before long she was the group's front-person, contributing words of her own, and serving as the perfect foil to the band's music. FEMALE SPECIES "Tale Of My Lost Love" (NUMERO) NUM073 LP April 9 street date. This is the story of two sisters who nurtured a dream for half a century and never let it die. Vicki and Ronni Gossett launched their musical career as teenagers in Whittier, California in 1966. They called themselves The Female Species. Members came and went; their base of operations moved to Las Vegas, back to LA, and over to Nashville. Along the way their sound transformed from to lounge to country pop, the only constant being an innate mastery of hooks and harmony. These ladies had it. Along the way, they crossed paths with The Carpenters, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Judds, and seemingly half of the industry's power players, rebuffing all untoward advances, focused always on their craft. In the 1980s they became staff for music publishing companies in the hit-making business. "Tale Of My Lost Love is the whole story from beginning to end of two sisters who gave everything to their dream, yet never made a single record... until now. LANOIS, DANIEL "Heavy Sun" (EONE) EMCCD28392 CD April 2 street date. "Heavy Sun" is the soulful debut from Daniel Lanois and his invigorating new all-star band. Recorded in Los Angeles and Toronto, the album fuses classic gospel and modern electronics, mixing gritty, human textures with crisp, digital accents and lush, swirling atmospherics to create a sound that's at once warmly familiar and boldly unexpected. The here are spacious and dreamy, anchored by rich, righteous organ topped with airy falsetto and mesmerizing four-part harmony, and the writing is buoyant and soulful to match, tapping into the shared uncertainty of the human condition to offer hope, comfort, and connection at a time when all three run in desperately short supply. Lanois and his bandmates - guitarist/ vocalist Rocco DeLuca, organist/vocalist Johnny Shepherd, and bassist/vocalist Jim Wilson - showcase an undeniable chemistry and boundless appetite for sonic discovery that far surpasses the influence of any individual member. LEE, SOOK-YIN & "jooj two" (MINT) MRD192 CD ADAM LITOVITZ LEE, SOOK-YIN & "jooj two" (MINT) MRL192 LP ADAM LITOVITZ April 9 street date. An iconic Canadian media figure, Sook-Yin Lee is an award-winning filmmaker, musician, actor, visual artist and broadcaster who has immersed herself in myriad creative collaborations. Many of them were made with her life partner and frequent co-creator Adam Litovitz, including their 2015 ethereal electroacoustic album "jooj". Though Adam passed away in 2019, his work with Sook-Yin lives on with "jooj two", an unapologetic dive into playful art-pop and a document of a lost language between lovers. While financial difficulties and external pressures contributed to the end of their romantic relationship, Sook-Yin and Adam remained best friends and creative partners. As he was busy with a soundtrack for Netflix, Adam gave Sook-Yin his blessing to continue working on their second album without him. Increasingly, Adam struggled with anxiety and depression, compounded by a prescription drug dependency that exacerbated insomnia and pain. Tragically, he died by suicide June 16, 2019. With the assistance of mixer Steve Chahley (U.S. Girls, Badge Époque Ensemble, Darlene Shrugg) Sook-Yin completed the album and will share it with the world this spring. Despite the circumstances surrounding its completion, "jooj two" is a celebration of life, especially Adam's. MURPHY, PETER "Deep (clear vinyl/1989 (BEGGARS BBL107LPX LP release)" May 7 street date. Peter's third solo album saw him break wide open with his biggest hit "", which is often included in lists of the greatest alternative singles. Propelling him into mainstream stardom, "Deep" also had two additional fantastic charting singles - "The Line Between the Devil's Teeth (And That Which Cannot Be Repeat)", and "". Again produced by Simon Rogers, the critically acclaimed album is still a fan favourite. MURPHY, PETER "Holy Smoke (BEGGARS BBL123LPX LP (clear/smoke/1992 release)" May 7 street date. The fourth album "Holy Smoke" contained the single "", which made it onto the modern rock charts. It was an elegant follow up to "Deep" with crisp production by Mike Thorne. As written in the original press release for the album, "you can’t pin down "Holy Smoke", it curls and eddies in white and blue swirls, drawing a series of patterns on the brain, but just when an image begins to come into focus, the music mutates into something hypnotically new". MURPHY, PETER "Cascade (2LP/scarlet (BEGGARS BBL175LPX LP vinyl/1995 release)" June 25 street date. His last solo album for Beggars, "Cascade" came after a time of change for Peter Murphy. He had dissolved his longtime backing band and moved to Turkey with his family. After a year of soul-searching and re-discovery, the songs flowed. He said "it confirmed my belief that writing - like painting or any art form - comes from a very silent place that's not dependent on outside stimulus. It was like rediscovering the initial innocence and purity that's there when you join your first band". The album was written with Paul Statham and produced by Pascal Gabriel. It also contains guitar work by noted artist Michael Brook. Includes four bonus tracks. MURPHY, PETER "Should the World Fall (BEGGARS BBL69LPX LP Apart (blue vinyl/1986 release" April 9 street date. Produced by Ivo Watts-Russell, who was chosen by Peter due to his This Mortal Coil production, this album was released in 1986. Melody Maker declared "the man with everything to prove has just proved everything". MURPHY, PETER " (indigo (BEGGARS BBL92LPX LP vinyl/1988 release)" April 9 street date. 1988's "Love Hysteria" was produced by Simon Rogers, who at the time was also playing with The Fall. It contains eight songs written by Peter with Paul Statham, plus a cover of 's "Funtime". Record Collector said that the album's songs ""All Night Long", "Indigo Eyes", "Dragnet Drag" and "Blind Sublime" managed to combine direct rock power with Murphy's vocal gymnastics and imaginative way with lyrics". MURPHY, PETER "The Last And Only Star (BEGGARS BBQ2210LPX LP (rarities/gold vinyl)" June 25 street date. This album of rarities was curated by Andrew Brooksbank and Stephen Webbon with Peter Murphy's guidance. It contains 10 rare tracks that are demo versions, remixes and edits. SERPENTWITHFEET "DEACON" (SECRETLY SC396 LP/CD SERPENTWITHFEET "DEACON (opaque (SECRETLY SC396LPC1 LP brown vinyl)" March 26 street date. serpentwithfeet is not only imagining, but exploring a world wherein Black love is paramount. His new album, "DEACON", is "a study rather than a story," delving into Black, gay love and the tenderness present in the best companionships, romantic or otherwise. Fully self-actualized and more devoted than ever to personal fulfillment, "DEACON" highlights his growth as a , which he credits to taking a more straightforward approach to expression. Spending time with pop songwriters and observing how they traverse language encouraged serpent to take more risks lyrically, resulting in more purity. Raised by religious parents in Baltimore, serpent's flair for theatrical themes and gospel sensibilities can be traced to the Black church, a place where the artist had his earliest experiences with glamour and the ornate. Well-executed vocal flourishes and the implementation of a quickening vibrato are just a few of the skills he picked up during his time in a Pentecostal choir. SHAKEY GRAVES "Roll The Bones X (2LP- (DUALTONE) DUA2168 CD/LP gold & black vinyl)" April 2 street date. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Shakey Graves' debut album, Dualtone is product to release "Roll The Bones X", as a special double-album presentation in a gorgeous high-quality package with a 20-page photo journal. THICKE, ROBIN "On Earth, And In (LUCKY MUSIC) ERE609 CD Heaven" THICKE, ROBIN "On Earth, And In Heaven (LUCKY MUSIC) ERE610 LP (clear vinyl)" Available now. Marking his first full-length album in six years, five-time GRAMMY Award nominee and diamond- selling performer, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Robin Thicke makes a return in 2021 with the long awaited new album, "On Earth, and in Heaven". Setting the stage for the record, the scorching single "That's What Love Can Do," ignited this new flame and hit #1 on the Urban A.C. charts. The second single, "Forever Mine," garnered high praise from Vibe, and has already amassed over 2 million Spotify streams and counting. Presenting the same bold, bright, and boisterous R&B that turned him into a household name, he ascends to new heights on his eighth full-length album. V/A "Electric Jesus (Music (JOYFUL NOISE) JNR333 LP From and Inspired By the Motio" March 26 street date. During the mid-1980s was under attack on multiple fronts. It was in the midst of this culture war that Christian metal emerged in American popular culture. became the face of Christian metal when their 1986 album "To Hell with the Devil" went platinum, earning the band Grammy nominations, and regular rotation on MTV. Stryper's unprecedented success inspired a generation of young Christian metalheads. "Electric Jesus" tells the story of one of those groups, a fictional teenage Christian metal band called 316. Set in 1986, the film offers an affectionate look at 80s Christian youth culture as it documents 316's journey from playing bible camp talent shows and church lock-ins, to performing at Christian music festivals and hardcore metal nightclubs. Any decent fictional rock biopic requires a convincing soundtrack, and Electric Jesus' director Chris White found the perfect collaborator in Daniel Smith. Smith is a prolific figure in , having worked under the Danielson moniker (and its variations- Danielson Famile, Brother Danielson) over the past two decades. VANGAALEN, CHAD "World's Most Stressed (FLEMISH EYE) FLCR046CD CD Out Gardener" VANGAALEN, CHAD "World's Most Stressed (FLEMISH EYE) FLCR046LP LP Out Gardener" March 19 street date. Since his 2004 debut album of bedroom recordings - the now legendary "Infiniheart" - Chad VanGaalen has been a restless and limitless creative force. It's been three long years since his last studio album "Light Information", and fans are hungry to finally see a full-length follow-up. 2020 was a terrible year for gardening. It was terrible for peppers, it was terrible for tomatoes, it was terrible for the condition of the soul. But Chad somehow raised a garden all the same: carrots and sprouts and broccoli and a revivifying new album, all of them grown at home. He likes to eat directly off the plant, he says - "I get down on my knees and graze. It's nice to feel the vegetables in your face" - and the 13 songs on "World's Most Stressed Out Gardener" were harvested with just such a spirit: in their raw state, young and vegetal, at the very moment, they were made. The songwriter's new album is a psychedelic bumper crop. A collection of tunes that does away with obsessiveness, the anxiety of perfectionism, in favor of freshness and immediacy - capturing the world while recording alone at home over a period of years. Throughout these 40 minutes, VanGaalen floats from mania to solace to oblivion, searching for zen in all the wrong places. YA TSEEN "Indian Yard" (SUB POP) SP1413 LP/CD April 30 street date. Nicholas Galanin is one of the most vital voices in contemporary art. Born in Sheet'ka (Sitka, Alaska), Galanin is Tlingit and Unangax̂ ; he creates from his perspective as an Indigenous man. His work calls for an accounting of the damages done to and life by unfettered capitalism while envisioning and advocating alternate possibilities. His work spans sculpture, video, installation, photography, jewelry and music; advocating Indigenous sovereignty, racial, social and environmental justice, for present, and future generations. His debut as Ya Tseen ("be alive" - a reference to his Tlingit name Yeil Ya Tseen) is "Indian Yard", his first album for Sub Pop. Rich with emotional range and sharp awareness, "Indian Yard" explores love, desire, frustration, pain, revolution, and connection through the magnetic expressions of an Indigenous mind. These 11 tracks put Galanin, Ya Tseen, and Indigenous art at large in a current musical conversation with the likes of Moses Sumney and TV on the Radio, FKA Twigs, and . During strings of sessions in Sitka and Seattle, a cast of brilliant friends - Shabazz Palaces, Nick Hakim, fellow Indigenous Alaskan singer and songwriter Qacung, fellow Alaskans Portugal. The Man (whom Galanin counts as friends and allies for social and environmental justice), Stas THEE Boss (THEESatisfaction), to name a few - helped turn "Indian Yard" into a cataract of intensely current pop wonders. ADULT MOM "Driver" (LAUREN LR86 LP March 5 street date. Adult Mom began as the solo project of Stevie Knipe in a Purchase College dorm room in 2012, and now falls between the playful spectrum of solo project and collaborative band with beloved friends and musicians Olivia Battell and Allegra Eidinger. On "Driver", Adult Mom's third studio release, Knipe delves into the emotional space just beyond a coming-of-age, where the bills start to pile up and memories of college dorms are closer than those of high school parking lots. Like so many other twenty-somethings, the album seeks to answer the age old question: what now? With an actualized sound, Adult Mom has arrived to soundtrack the queer rom- com they've been dreaming of since 2015. Driver incorporates an expert weaving of sonic textures ranging from synths and shakers to '00s-inspired guitar tones which convey a loving attention to detail. CD available on Epitaph. AZITA "Glen Echo" (DRAG CITY) DC775 LP March 5 street date. In the eight years since AZITA's last long-player, her fevered brain has barely rested, and the proof is a new album of unbounded physical and mental activity, music and entertainment, entitled "Glen Echo". Her singular conception of - the idiosyncratic songs, singing and playing that have graced seven acclaimed releases - is in verdant recurrence on "Glen Echo", blossoming anew, cutting sharply in the spirit and image of her ever-evolving, always questioning style. Writing and arranging on keyboards since the time of her solo debut, AZITA focused on for this set of songs. Not simply for swagger or a fresh approach to soloing, but as part of a way to elide expected singer-songwriter tropes, to democratically populate the sound-stage in equal partnership instead. This is a key aspect of the "Glen Echo" sound, one that determined another new choice - AZITA playing everything on the album herself! BEACH, MICHAEL "Dream Violence" (GONER) 169GONE CD/LP BEACH, MICHAEL "Dream Violence (GONER) 169GONEX LP (coloured vinyl)" March 19 street date. "Dream Violence", Michael Beach's fourth full-length, is an epic album that explores the duality of the human condition. Or, as Beach himself puts it, the album is about "human futility, passion, desire, anger, frustration, and the struggle to maintain hope in a somewhat hopeless time". Known for his work touring with the Australian guitar pop band Thigh Master and the late, brilliantly eccentric Israeli guitarist Charlie Megira, Beach is the architect of a sound that is both well-built and ramshackle, straightforward and indeterminably complex, out of the norm yet familiar in all the best ways. This album unfolds like a revelation, filled with sonic tumbleweeds that reference Neil Young's "On The Beach", Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska", The Velvet Underground's "Loaded", and the Go Betweens' "Before Hollywood". Influences ranging from the enigmatic outlier Megira to Glenn Branca to The Oblivians are combined to create a new, exhilarating sound, part of the path that Beach has been on since 2008's "Blood Courses". CATBITE "Catbite" (BAD TIME) BTR003 LP March 5 street date. Power pop, garage rock, and Two-Tone ska clash magnificently on the stellar debut album from Philly punk 'n' rollers Catbite. JURKEN, E.R. "I Stand Corrected" (COUNTRY CNT101 LP April 23 street date. "I Stand Corrected" is the debut of a new talent and the debut of a new label, Country Thyme. Yes - a label was formed to release this artist, which means something special is in the air. Upon dropping the needle, you'll hear exactly what it is, too: an honest-to-god song cycle, riches-to-rags style, rising and falling on the songs of E.R. Jurken and his spectral tenor, refracted via multiple overdubs across an oft-deserted soundscape, like haunted incandescent orchestral pop music with the orchestra mostly erased. The sound of "I Stand Corrected" is often just acoustic guitar, offset by a lush tableau of vocal arrangements. Ed's voice works the register, sliding easily into falsetto and adapting equitably to lower octaves as well, while populating the landscape with choruses of vocal color. These voices cover a wide swath of 20th-century sensibilities, tipping the hat to everything from Paul McCartney, Beach Boys and The Mamas And The Papas to The Boswell Sisters and the Brothers Gibb. NEWELL, MARTIN "The Off White Album (CAPTURED CT336LPC1 LP (white vinyl)" March 26 street date. The title of Martin Newell's second solo album comes from a cheeky riff on the Beatles' White Album: if 1993's critically-acclaimed "The Greatest Living Englishman" was Newell's "Sgt. Pepper's", then it's only right that its demure 1995 successor be called "The Off White Album". There's even a little pastiche of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on "Queen Phyllis Of Colchester" - Newell led the song in with a one-finger motif, then asked XTC's to give him his best impression of "Fresh Cream"-period Clapton. But that's where the Beatles jokes end; "The Off White Album" stands on its own, a vivid snapshot of Newell's life with a French chanson-inspired ease. Sonically, the record contains a Gallic élan that distinguishes it from Newell's prior work with the Cleaners From Venus. A longtime fan of French music, he sought the same quality on this record - with the vocal riding at the top of the mix, rather than blurred under indie rock guitars, as was common at the time. PEACERS "Blexxed Rec" (DRAG CITY) DC786 LP March 26 street date. The Peacers are back with their third album. "Blexxed Rec" is a different time in the band's life - a second album from the same lineup, plus with a country in between them. Also, Bo, who had a song on the last one, brought three in for this one, and Shayde's got the closing number. Suddenly, three singer-songwriters under The Peacers' flag! The band's vernacular is singing out of everyone's mouth, strumming on every guitar and every bass drum, rebuilding perfect pop in their own fiendish image, slanted and spread left and right in the speakers. Everybody wants to be a guitar band, with two of 'em up front and a bass and drums, but The Peacers are already one, sending out a mad variety of the thrills and chills of modern rock - whether glam-tinged, psyched-out, folky, riding the knifeblade of post-garage fusion, or, the winning strains of their own pure pop sound and melting it all together. QUATRO, SUZI "The Devil In Me (2LP)" (STEAMHAMM 243841 LP QUATRO, SUZI "The Devil In Me" (STEAMHAMM 243842 CD March 26 street date. Suzi Quatro's enthusiasm for her latest offering has many reasons, twelve of them to be precise. Because "The Devil In Me" consists of exactly a dozen songs, each of them - from the opening track and title song to the final 'Motor City Riders' - a real highlight. That this moment is still a long way in the distant future is partly due to "The Devil In Me", recorded in collaboration with her son Richard Tuckey. Vinyl edition includes two bonus tracks. REED, RENÉE "Renée Reed" (KEELED KS050 CD REED, RENÉE "Renée Reed (metallic (KEELED KS050LPC1 LP gold vinyl)" March 26 street date. The songs on Renée Reed's self-titled debut album chronicle a three-year period. These songs are about toxic relationships, seeing ghosts, ancestral baggage and blessings, and daydreaming about a lover. The album has been described as "dream lo-fi folk from the Cajun prairies" and "an effortless, inspired union of the folk music that Reed was raised on and a lilting, lost 60s French-pop gem" by Gorilla vs. Bear. SLAUGHTER BEACH, "At The Moonbase (black (LAME-O) LMO078 LP DOG vinyl)" SLAUGHTER BEACH, "At The Moonbase (LAME-O) LMO078LPC1 LP DOG (opaque blue vinyl)" March 26 street date. "At The Moonbase", the fourth full-length album from Slaughter Beach, Dog, is a return to form for Philadelphia bandleader Jake Ewald. Written and recorded alone at home and at The Metal Shop, Ewald's East Kensington , the album tracks an exercise in solitary production not unlike Slaughter Beach, Dog’s 2016 debut "Welcome" or 2017's "Motorcycle.JPG". On the heels of 2019's "Safe And Also No Fear", Ewald's latest offering brings expanded arrangements and sharpened storytelling as he taps into salad days over slacker rock ("Do You Understand"), the dark grooves of seedy city life ("Song for Oscars"), and even a barroom- piano-driven "escapade through the great American bedroom" ("A Modern Lay"). SMITH, LINDA "Till Another Time: (CAPTURED CT335 LP/CD 1988-1996" March 12 street date. When Linda Smith purchased a 4 track cassette recorder in the mid-1980s, it was not with the intention of launching a solo career. At the time, she was playing guitar in a band called The Woods, and thought it would be useful for sharing demos with her bandmates. In the end, the 4 track outlasted The Woods, but Smith had already started toying around with her own songs. The new hobby followed her from New York back to her native Baltimore, and over the next decade she'd release several albums worth of delicate, bewitching solo music on cassette. "Till Another Time: 1988-1996" is the first retrospective collection of Smith's charmingly lo-fi music, situating her as a pioneer of the home recording boom that persists today. Sparse and gentle, Linda's music is tinged with lovelorn melancholy despite the sweetness of her voice. "Till Another Time" sheds light on her fascinating catalog while acknowledging its role in shaping today's musical landscape. UNDERGROUND "The Falling" (FUZZ CLUB FC135CD CD YOUTH UNDERGROUND "The Falling (180g- (FUZZ CLUB FC135V12 LP YOUTH transparent red vinyl)" March 19 street date. Tenth album from The Underground Youth, a Manchester-born, Berlin-based group led by Craig Dyer. The new full-length sees Craig and band trade their acerbic post-punk melancholy for a more refined and stripped-back sound that, instead, enters the world of romantic, shadowy folk-noir. A marked departure from the primal intensity often heard on the band's previous work, "The Falling" showcases a softer, more cinematic musical landscape shaped by acoustic guitars, piano, accordion and a heavy presence of violin and string arrangements. It's not just the instrumentation and atmospherics that have undergone a transformation on this record, it is also Craig's most sincere and introspective work to date. V/A "Riot City: Complete (CAPTAIN OI!) AHOYCW380 CD Singles Collection (4CD)" March 19 street date. Following on from the success of the recent "No Future Complete Singles Collection", Captain Oi! proudly presents the "Riot City Complete Singles Collection", a 4 CD capacity wallet round up of every single, single (!) issued by the seminal early 80s Punk label. 118 tracks by artists such as Vice Squad, The Varukers, Chaos U.K., and Abrasive Wheels are spread across the four discs - of the 33 singles issued by the label, 27 made the then important Independent Chart. Vice Squad drummer and co-label founder Shane Baldwin has provided in-depth liner notes on the story of the label that did so much to establish the "UK/82" Punk sound. Each release has its original sleeve illustrated and now comes with line up and chart position information added. Many of these releases are now highly prized items on the Punk collector's scene. The rare "Riotous Assembly" compilation that Riot City issued in 1982 and which contained 15 tracks unique to the release at the time is added as a bonus. V/A "Shake The Foundations (CHERRY RED) CRCDBOX107 CD (4CD): Militant Funk & The Pos" March 26 street date. In the wake of punk's seismic and well recounted impact on the UK music scene, countless hitherto unavailable influences suddenly became available and de rigueur for the nation's would-be pop stars. Enabled by a new kind of record shop that began to appear across the country in Rough Trade's image, and encouraged by an absolute disregard for ‘the rules’, interested young people were quickly exposed to a broad spectrum of music from beyond the realm of three chord rock 'n' roll. Nowhere was the outcome more notable than on the dancefloors of the day. ‘Shake The Foundations’ captures that after dark revolution, showcasing an era when disco, dub, electronica, funk and - whisper it - pop sensibilities - began to flood into the alternative, post-punk landscape. Subtitiled "Militant Funk & the Post-Punk Dancefloor 1978-1984", this 3 CD set contains 49 tracks from artists like 23 Skidoo, A Certain Ratio, Tones On Tail, The Stranglers, , and many lesser knowns. WRITHING SQUARES "Chart For The Solution" (TROUBLE IN TIM159 CD/LP WRITHING SQUARES "Chart For The Solution (TROUBLE IN TIM159LPC1 LP (2LP-hyperdrive coloured viny" March 26 street date. Writhing Squares - the Philadelphia duo of Kevin Nickles (sax, , synth) and Daniel Provenzano (bass, vocals) - have been refining the nuts and bolts of their sound over their previous two albums. Their latest, "Chart For The Solution", is a double album chock full what makes them tick; heady, progressive, psychedelic space-rock-cum-minimal synth slop, punctuated by MacKay/Chance-style blasts of brass and woodwinds that definitely scratch an itch. Over the course of the album's four sides, Nickles and Provenzano utilize the extended format to stretch out and settle into a groove all their own. Recorded by the band themselves and utilizing recordings made from 2015 all the way thru earlier this year, "Chart For The Solution" really is a ZONE, and the perfect auditory cleanser to scrub away the stain of the previous year.

With "A Virtual World" the Swedish Power Metal quintet Metalite puts themselves back on the Metal dancefloor and set out to reinvent classic Melodic Metal - by unleashig a storm of power, monumentality and zeitgeist that you cannot escape. Like they started on "Biomechanicals", the Swedes continue to expertly make use of electronic elements, influenced by the Trance era of the early 21st century - spheric layers mix with flirring sequences and stoic beats fitting like a second skin for the massive, melodic and outrageously catchy with which they continue to draw a picture of a modern "A Virtual World", not as dark as on the last album "Biomechanicals" but showing more hope and perspective how our future world can and should look like. BRETT, PAUL "Stone Survivor: (LEMON) CDLEMX242 CD Anthology (4CD)" March 26 street date. Paul Brett spent most of the 1960s and 70s as one of rock's quintessential journeymen, a hired gun for the great and the good, one of the session guitarists of choice, as well as following that familiar trajectory from the Beat Boom onwards. He played in a host of Beat, Mod, R&B, Psychedelic and Progressive outfits before finally creating his own band Paul Brett's Sage in 1970, resulting in three albums for Pye/Dawn. In 1974, Paul discovered the delights of acoustic 12-string guitar and has spent the rest of his musical career proselytising the delights of the instrument, both via his many albums and via his own range of Vintage guitars. After taking time out in the 1980s, Paul returned to making music in the 1990s and has worked prolifically ever since, issuing a string of albums and EPs on his own label, the most recent of which was "The Raven" in 2020. "Stone Survivor" is the very first anthology of Paul’s multi-faceted musical output across the last half century or so. Included are rare tracks from the dawn of his career with budding beat/mod/psych bands The SW4, The Union and Tintern Abbey, as well as the historic debut 45 by The Crazy World Of from 1967. Key tracks from a subsequent purple patch for Paul Brett's Sage are also included, plus three rarities unissued at the time, followed by highlights from Paul’s multi-album tenures with the labels Bradley’s and RCA. Sandwiched between them are selections from two self-released mid-70s albums, when Paul switched to the 12-string guitar. Later choices are drawn from Paul’s many self-released solo albums. The Fleur De Lys may be well-known for their glorious cover of The Who's "Circles" - and ultimate freakbeat anthem after which this compilation is named - but the singles they released in the second half of the 1960s remain one of the greatest collection of singles by any band, ranging from R&B through freakbeat and psych and back into club soul. Acid Jazz and Countdown Records have been the custodians of the Fleur De Lys catalog for the last decade and this compilation is the combination of that work. It collects all the singles released for Immediate, Polydor and Atlantic. This limited edition gatefold orange double vinyl contains previous unseen photos and illustrations. The charmingly understated, slightly baroque, endlessly listenable Harpers Bizarre were one of the most important harmony vocal groups of the 1960s. Their cultured interpretation of Paul Simon's ‘59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)’ is among the recordings that define the most golden of eras in popular music. Between 1967 and 1969, under the auspices of producer , they created four delightful, intelligent, unique sounding albums of what broadly has become known as , with contributions from such dashing young American writers and arrangers as , and . COWELL, STANLEY "Musa-Ancestral Streams (180g)” (PURE SES19743 LP March 5 street date. "Musa-Ancestral Streams" remains a relative oddity in the pantheon of jazz's black consciousness movement - a solo piano set of stunning reach and scope, its adherence to intimacy contrasts sharply with the bold, multi-dimensional sensibilities that signify the vast majority of post-Coltrane excursions into spiritual expression, yet the sheer soulfulness and abandon of Stanley Cowell's performance nevertheless vaults the record into the same physical and metaphysical planes. Cowell's energy and touch are remarkable, as if guided by divine power, and for all the music's structural spaciousness and rhythmic freedom, not a note feels out of place, let alone excessive. Most intriguing is "Travelin' Man", an overdubbed 'duet' featuring Cowell on both acoustic and electric piano that underscores his uncommon affinity for space and presence. MOLLESTAD, HEDVIG "Ding Dong. You're (RUNE RCD2219 CD TRIO Dead." MOLLESTAD, HEDVIG "Ding Dong. You're (RUNE RLP3219 LP TRIO Dead. (black vinyl)" MOLLESTAD, HEDVIG "Ding Dong. With their previous album, "Smells Funny", this explosive and expansive trio experienced a breakthrough of sorts, having gone from strength to strength through five albums since their 2011 debut "Shoot!", gathering respect from both rock and jazz camps, sharing big stages with the likes of John McLaughlin and , and being equally comfortable on jazz and rock stages. "Ekhidna" appeared on both jazz and rock best of 2020 lists, coming in third in Prog's "Album of the Year" poll. As well, she was included in Downbeat's "25 For The Future". Her trio, which has Ellen Brekken on bass and Ivar Loe Bjørnstad on drums, has the loose swagger of early Black Sabbath; the density and prowl of peak ; the expeditionary urge of Jimi Hendrix; the incantatory fervor of John McLaughlin. MULELID, KJETIL "Piano" (RUNE RCD2220 CD MULELID, KJETIL "Piano" (RUNE RLP3220 LP March 26 street date. Still only 29 years old when composing and recording this album, Kjetil Mulelid is one of the brightest talents in Norwegian jazz, and these days that really says something. The bulk of the album was recorded on a steaming hot June day in the legendary Athletic Sound studio on their unique and characteristic Bösendorfer grand piano from 1919. Of the piano Kjetil says the sound is one of a kind, very clear and not typically "perfect" like most new ones. In turn joyful, playful and elegant, the album fully shows Kjetil's harmonic and melodic mastery and the influence from his early introductions to the classical masters. Whether staying with the tune or taking off on improvised flights, there is an ease and assurance in his playing that betrays his young age. OTSUKA, GEORGE "Loving You George" (WEWANTSOU WWSCD38 CD QUINTET OTSUKA, GEORGE "Loving You George" (WEWANTSOU WWSLP38 LP QUINTET March 26 street date. The album was released by cutting-edge Japanese label Bellwood, which had recently made waves with 's landmark "Hosono House". "Loving You" is comprised of four superb performances fuelled by Otsuka's powerful drumming and Fumio Karashima's Ffender Rhodes. It also includes a wonderfully funky take on Minnie Riperton's "Loving You". This is the first time the album has been reissued since the 1970s and it comes with original artwork featuring OBI strip and audio remastered from the master tapes by King Records in .

BLACK TWIG PICKERS "Friend's Peace" (VHF) VHF153 LP April 2 street date. Following a series of records with Thrill Jockey, The Black Twig Pickers return to the VHF mothership to continue their charming and original take on old time and Appalachianinspired string band sounds. Together since 2001, and a continuous presence in the music's true home of Southwest Virginia, the Twigs represent the actively working evolution of the traditions - learning songs from other locals, playing dances at the Floyd Country Store, etc. - without retroartifice or nostalgia. The ragged-but-right performances and recording (and Sally Ann Morgan's perfect cover design) sit at the ideal intersection of DIY/"underground" and local string-sound values. On "Friend's Peace", the band travels a range of styles, from the lovely harmony on the trad-classic "Moonshiner" to the racing fiddle/guitar/banjo on the "Money Musk" medley. Mixed in with the traditional songs are several perfectly-placed original tunes. BLACK, MARY "Orchestrated" (PURE TULP050 LP March 26 street date. For over thirty years, singer Mary Black has been a dominant presence in Irish music, both at home and abroad. During that time, she has released 12 studio albums, all of which achieved platinum sales status and spawned countless hits. On October 2019, she released an album unlike anything she has done before; "Mary Black Orchestrated". This album is a reimagining of 11 of Mary's favourite songs, orchestrated and produced by world renowned musician and composer Brian Byrne. The album features the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Byrne and is a stunning reinterpretation of songs like "No Frontiers", "The Urge For Going", "Summer Sent You" and "Carolina Rua". MACKAY, BILL & "Keys" (DRAG CITY) DC784 LP/CD NATHAN BOWLES April 9 street date. "Keys", the debut album from Bill MacKay and Nathan Bowles, is, on first blush, a collection of guitar and banjo duets - but from the opening moment, it is clear that Bill and Nathan's agreed-upon duo is a living organism, growing as it goes. This music, while coming from traditional places, is asking more of itself, seeking sparks of inspiration to light the path forward. Throughout "Keys", Bill and Nathan propel their power-folk engine with intent and feeling, joy and solemnity, as images of wariness, wonder, anger, deliberation, forgiveness, trust and devotion rise up from the music and roll it forward into the unknown, a place we can sense both players are happy to go. Eight of the ten songs featured are originals, with the other two coming from different centuries than this one. ROSE, ESTHER "How Many Times" (FATHER/DAUG FD092 CD ROSE, ESTHER "How Many Times (FATHER/DAUG FD092LPC2 LP (opaque white vinyl)" March 26 street date. From opening for on tour to being asked to sing on Jack White's latest album, Esther Rose's journey through the past few years has been one of saying yes to new opportunities, all while nurturing and playing in bands in the New Orleans country music scene. Rose was in perpetual motion when she wrote "How Many Times". In the span of two years, she moved three times, navigated the end of a relationship, and began touring more than ever. The New Orleans-based singer-songwriter used that momentum while she penned her third studio album. That's why, as the album title's nod to the cyclical of life implies, there's a rush that accompanies "How Many Times" as if you're experiencing an awakening, too. Rose expands her alt- country sound into a blossoming world of folk pop, rustic Americana, and tender harmonies.

MAGNE, MICHEL "Les Tontons flingueurs (LE POP CLUB) PCR035 LP O.S.T." March 26 street date. The music from "Les Tontons flingueurs" is as instantaneously recognizable as the James Bond theme thanks to a short and recurring melodic motif that can still stick in the heads of 21th century kids. Monothematism is a word used by musicologists to refer to the use of stylistic variations based on a single musical theme as can be heard in the Tontons: on the banjo, during the nose punch sequences, played jazz, blues, gloria or Hully Gally style. Though the Tontons music may on first listen sound nothing different than a straightforward yet catchy soundtrack, it turns out to be a real exercise in style. In reality and despite his classical musical education, Michel Magne indeed had a venture into avant-garde music, going as far as organizing an infrasounds concert at the Salle Gaveau venue () on July 15th, 1954. His taste for provocation and avant-garde did not prevent Magne from composing and arranging popular music. He hence wrote the music for six Georges Lautner movies, including "Les Tontons flingueurs" in 1963.

BYRDI "Byrjing (digi)" (TROLLMUSIC) TROLL013 CD March 5 street date. With their third full-length "Byrjing", Byrdi are taking the important step from a highly respected underground act to an established force within the realm of Nordic folk. The Norwegians have recorded this third album with the participation of various other guest musicians including percussionist Kjell Braaten, who has performed live with Wardruna among other bands, and Mathias Gyllengahm (Utmarken, Norrsinnt) on nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle). Having been joined by harpist Gulia Wyrd-Svartskog, Byrdi are now ready to spread their music and words to an even greater audience with "Byrjing". HARRIOTT, DERRICK "The Undertaker (2CD (DOCTOR BIRD) DBCDD073 CD & THE CRYSTA expanded edition)" March 12 street date. After being released in the UK by Trojan Records in 1970, ‘The Undertaker’ became an instant best seller among the country's growing number of reggae fans. The collection, comprising a dozen topically-themed instrumentals, showcased the musical skills of crack Kingston session crew, the Dynamites (recording under the assumed name of the The Crystalites) and the production talents of one of Jamaica's most accomplished music makers: performer-turned-, Derrick Harriott. Now, over 50 years since its release, this classic album is finally made available once more, with its 12 tracks bolstered by a further 14 instrumental sides from the period, along with the cream of Harriott’s vocal productions from 1969 and 1970. Most of the recordings have been unavailable for years, while a further nine tracks are completely new to CD!

V/A "Soul Power '68 (2CD)" (DOCTOR BIRD) DBCDD074 CD March 12 street date. With Duke Reid's Treasure Isle catalogue having been mercilessly plundered over the past few decades, you would be forgiven for thinking that precious little of the legendary producer's work currently remains unavailable. This sensational collection of long-lost rock steady, proto reggae and soul tracks from 1968 demonstrates otherwise. The first dozen tracks are lifted directly from a recently discovered Trojan Records tape of a previously unissued , "Soul Power", while the remainder of the material is in a similar vein, culminating in a fascinating and hugely entertaining 42 track collection of hits, rarities and previously unissued tracks. A sensational stand-alone compilation, while also perfectly complementing currently available Treasure Isle collections released by both Doctor Bird and Trojan, "Soul Power '68" demonstrates that with a bit of digging, precious gems can still be found!

FEHLMANN, THOMAS "Boser Herbst" (KOMPAKT) KOM432LP LP FEHLMANN, THOMAS "Boser Herbst" (KOMPAKT) KOMP167CD CD April 9 street date. For Böser Herbst, Thomas Fehlmann returns to the sediment of ages, drawing from a similar lexicon of sounds to that used on 2018's 1929 - Das Jahr Babylon (KOMP153CD / KOM401LP). Like that album, Böser Herbst was produced as the soundtrack to a documentary made by Volker Heise, Herbst 1929, Schatten Über Babylon. Fehlmann's approach here was to "capture" samples of contemporaneous music, "picking up the dirt and dust of original 1920s archive sound and music excerpts and shaping the essence into this selection of tunes," he recalls. MCALISTER, JAMES "Scissortail" (37D03D) 37D020 CD/LP March 26 street date. L.A.-based producer, composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist James McAlister is a rare creator, and highly sought after collaborator. Perhaps best known for his work with , McAlister has also appeared on record with Lorde amongst many others, and is a regular contributor to Aaron Dessner's projects, including the latest albums from Taylor Swift, folklore and evermore. In 2018 he joined Stevens, Casey Foubert, St. Vincent and Moses Sumney for the Oscar performance for music from "Call Me By Your Name", where he played piano and a bottle of cupcake sprinkles. In 2017, his collaboration with Stevens, Nico Muhly, and entitled Planetarium was released by 4AD. Around the same time McAlister started a deep dive into a personal sonic realm that has manifested as an ambient project under his own name. 2018 saw the release of Three Breaths, the first offering from this exploration. 2021 will see the second installment, an album called "Scissortail" which vividly puts McAlister's evolving master craft on display. It is a collection of moving, meditative, immediately satisfying and quietly stunning work. It is the sound of an artist letting go entirely of pre-conceptions or expectations, instead mining the depths of that very real and abstract place of sound, texture, color and feeling. AGENT ORANGE "Living In Darkness" (RADIATION) RRS121 LP February 26 street date. Limited edition repress of 2020 RSD release, now on black vinyl. Adventurous southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf rock with punk. A year later it was included on the seminal Rodney On The Roq compilation album released by Posh Boy Records. Meanwhile James Levesque had replaced Steve Soto (Adolescents) and the new line up released their own self produced and self released 7" ep in 1980. A year later, the group signed with Robbie Fields' Posh Boy Records for their debut LP Living In Darkness, co- produced by Fields and former Simpletones guitarist Jay Lansford. The album was recorded at Brian Elliott’s store front studio in North Hollywood (a few years before Elliott struck gold writing ’s “Papa Don’t Preach”). A milestone in California history. PARKS, VAN DYKE "The Histories (Old Black Joe)” (CORBETT VS. CVSDS002EP 7" March 5 street date. Few musicians have had the word "legendary" affixed to theirs as many times as Van Dyke Parks . A great songwriter and musician in his own right whose cult classic LPs Song Cycle and helped expand the notion of what music of the Americas really meant, Parks has left an indelible mark on contemporary music, not least through his ornately imaginative production and , including landmark projects with The Beach Boys , , and Joanna Newsom , as well as LPs produced for the Esso Steel Band and the Mighty Sparrow . For a 2020 installation piece titled "The Histories (Old Black Joe)," Philadelphia- based artist David Hartt invited Parks to make an original arrangement of the Stephen Foster song "Old Black Joe." The kaleido-phonic result constitutes the A-side of this 7" single. With a collage-like feel featuring lush orchestration that's classic Parks, the track jump-cuts from mood to mood like Carl Stalling and features an explosive steel guitar part and a parting cameo by the Esso Steel Band. The B-side is a beautiful arrangement of "Souvenir de la Havane" by the pioneering pre-jazz American Creole composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk . Cover art and design by David Hartt. Limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on translucent red vinyl. VARGAS, KATE "For The Wolfish And (BAD BAD210201 CD Wandering" March 19 street date. Kate Vargas reflects artists like Tom Waits, Kat Edmonson, M. Ward and PJ Harvey that hone a vintage pop sound that summons a golden era when music was real and alternatively hip. The half-Mexican, New Mexico-raised, NYC-based artist is building ever more mindfully on her sound, and the music press is taking notice. Vargas has received accolades from a variety of respected outlets including NPR, Billboard, No Depression, and the Huffington Post. "For The Wolfish And Wandering" features Vargas' moody and deeply personal songs that weave stories from her life with tales she soaked up from literature and also the rich oral folklore tradition with which she grew up. First up you notice the voice that has a rasp to it that makes it distinctive and individual. There are many moments on this album that make you realise that Vargas is an artist who is pushing the limits of her personal vision to create music that is not simple or easy but rewards engagement. Her blend of folk orientated storytelling is placed in the middle of a sonic stream that washes over her voice, adding a dream like (or nightmarish) take on her songs that draw on literary sources to create the wolfish world she wanders. BYRON "Omega Evangelion" (THE GR07 CD March 26 street date. Soon after the Finnish heavy doom band Church Of Void ceased to exist in 2017, drummer Johannes Lahti, aka Byron V, started planning the release of few songs he had made during the years and were buried in the drawer. Enlightened by the realization of the few songs finally being pushed out, Johannes started composing more material in late 2019 and what started out as a studio project EP, first became two EPs and finally formed as a full-length album. A band called Byron was born. Byron is a melodic heavy metal band from Finland. Founded 2019 as a one-man studio project, now standing as a full-grown band, Byron mixes its eclectic sound with influences from various genres, such as occult rock and stoner/doom, topping it with themes and imagery of the arcane and the occult. Byron’s debut album, “The Omega Evangelion” represents the birth of the band with tracks from different eras, bound together by a thematical line of endings and loss in various aspects, topped with Lovecraftian imagery. It is an eclectic serving of melodic heavy metal, moving from NWOBHM to occult rock and deeper into the gloomy depths of darker metal and back to stoner and doom, offering a sensation of beautifulness in decay, a beginning in every end. An evangelion of rebirth; of Alpha in Omega. CAPRICORN "Capricorn" (JOLLY ROGER) JRRBB009 LP CAPRICORN "Capricorn" (JOLLY ROGER) JRRBB009CD CD March 26 street date. Capricorn from was formed in 1991 from the ashes of Grinder founded in 1985 in Frankfurt; they released in 1988 "Dawn for the Living" and in 1989 "Dead End" both on No Remorse label before joining Noise Records for "Nothing Is Sacred" (1991). Grinder separated because they lost their record-deal and the members did not find an agreement on the band's future. Capricorn line-up was: Adrian Hahn on bass and vocals, David Hofmann on guitar and Stefan Arnold on drums. They choose the monicker of Capricorn as the sound was both conceptually and stylistically far from Grinder. After a demo with six songs the band reached a record deal with Shark Records. On this label, the self-titled strong debut album was recorded in 1993 with producer Wolfgang Stach in the T&T studio, then the band toured Germany in 1994 with Grave Digger. In March 1995, T&T, sub- label of Noise Records, released the second powerful album entitled "Inferno". In Japan the album was released by Victor with the bonus track "Incredibly Ruined". Then the band split up and Stefan Arnold joined Grave Digger. CAPRICORN "Inferno" (JOLLY ROGER) JRRBB010 LP CAPRICORN "Inferno" (JOLLY ROGER) JRRBB010CD CD March 26 street date. "Solstice at Stonehenge (BLACK BWR236 LP 1984 (2LP + Book + poster)" HAWKWIND "Solstice at Stonehenge (BLACK BWRCD2362 CD 1984 (2CD+DVD)" March 12 street date. Hawkwind have always been associated with music festivals, most notably the free festivals, where Dave Brock has said that, at those events, the band is not shackled to appease an audience by giving them what they expect and have paid to see. With that obligation removed, the band can relax and experiment more than usual and gigs become even more fun. The most important one of these was Stonehenge 1984, which proved to be the last festival before the authorities moved in the following year to block the festival from being set up. Happily, the 1984 festival was recorded and filmed and the Hawkwind Solstice Eve and Solstice Morning were both preserved. The fact that Hawkwind were playing for free didn't mean it was a basic show. As well as the line-up of Dave Brock, Harvey Bainbridge, Huw Lloyd Langton (who played the evening session, but not the following morning), , Alan Davey and Danny Thompson, there were half a dozen dancers, a mime artist and fire spitting. They played an interesting and varied main set in the evening, featuring a blend of old and new Hawkwind songs, along with numbers from Inner City Unit and Bob Calvert's Lucky Leif And The Starfighters album. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, there was a considerably extended version of Ghost Dance, lasting around ten minutes. The sunrise set was special too, with a long, laid-back, jam at dawn, in fitting with the occasion. LIVING COLOUR "Stain (180g-translucent (MUSIC ON MOVLP1346C LP red vinyl)" Available now. "Stain" (1993) is the third album by Living Colour. The album features a much heavier and aggressive Living Colour, containing elements of thrash metal and industrial music. Only 1000, individually numbered copies are available. The package includes an insert with pictures and credits. "In A Time Of Blood (JOLLY ROGER) JRRBB008 LP And Fire" NOCTURNAL RITES "In A Time Of Blood (JOLLY ROGER) JRRBB008CD CD And Fire" March 26 street date. In 1990 guitarist/vocalist Fredrik Mannberg formed a band called Necronomic, then by the end of the same year the only two remaining members (Fredrik and drummer Tommy Eriksson) recruited bassist Nils Eriksson and started with the monicker of Nocturnal Rites. In 1991 the band made their first, and still only, official demo recording. A four track release called "The Obscure". It attracted some indie-labels but the band decided to wait for something better. By the end of 1994 the band signed to Dark Age, who's intention was always to license the album to a bigger label with better funds and distribution. The partner was found in Megarock Records and finally Nocturnal Rites debut album "In a Time of Blood and Fire" (1995) was launched upon the world. It was critically a big success but, unfortunately, due to some distribution problems and poor efforts in promoting the album, it never became “big” as it potentially could have been. "A In The Tale" (DEKO MUSIC) DEKO1052 CD March 19 street date. One of the great lost albums of British psychedelia, original copies of Arzachel's 1969 self-titled debut fetch huge sums on the collectors' market and it is not difficult to understand why. Originally released in 1969 on the small Evolution label, this album quite simply contains some of the best psych to ever come out of the UK. However, like so many other great albums of the era, it soon dropped entirely from the radar due to bad promotion. In fact, it may not have ever been rediscovered at all if guitarist and keyboardist Dave Stewart had not gone on to be so well known. Hillage would soon become famous for his work in Gong, and Stewart would become a legend of British prog with Egg, , , and his work with wife Barbara Gaskin in the 1980s. Replica reissue of this extremely rare 7" by Fifty Foot Hose band members, originally issued in 1967. "Bad Trip" was recorded with Bob Noto on guitar, Bob Gibson screaming and hollering, and Cork Marcheschi playing bass and hitting a large cardboard tube with a stick. They recorded it on a two-track Sony in Cork's parents' family room and put Bob in the bathroom as a kind of sound booth. It was Cork's way to deal with music concrete and he suggested that the record could be played at any speed, his love for Dadaism was fully realized in "Bad Trip". FEVER TREE "For Sale (brown vinyl)" (KLIMT) MJJ412CB LP March 5 street date. Three stunning covers, the traditional ‘’ (as arranged by Jimi Hendrix), Screamin' Jay Hawkins ‘I Put a Spell on You’ (1957) and Love ‘She Comes In Colors’ (1967) for a revolutionary psychedelic album with hints of folk-pop and rare groove (thanks to master drummer Hal Blaine precious performance). Released on New York label Ampex Records in 1970, the record shows up a slight gospel tinge, thanks to backup vocalists the Blackberries. While Dennis Keller bluesy inflection brings to mind a Jim Morrison twin or maybe a proto Mark Lanegan. A must have Texas psych highlight ! FIFTY FOOT HOSE "Cauldron (180g)" (AGUIRRE) ZORN048LP LP March 26 street date. 2021 repress on 180g with replica of original insert. Aguirre Records present the first official vinyl reissue of Fifty Foot Hose 's Cauldron , originally released on Limelight in 1967. Cauldron is the legendary psychedelic jazzy rock and electronic album by Californian band Fifty Foot Hose. Fifty Foot Hose formed in in 1967. Like few other acts of their time, they consciously tried to combine the contemporary sounds of rock with electronic instruments and avant-garde compositional ideas. They were one of the most radical groups of the psychedelic era, and their experimentalism still has the power to shock and surprise even now. What set them apart were the pioneering experiments in electronic music, like the band they are often compared to, The of America . Incorporating , siren, audio generators, and other various electronic effects, as Cork Marcheschi , the band's original bass player, had developed an acute interest in the dadaist/futurist experiments of composers like and Edgar Varese . David and Nancy Blossom brought both psychedelic and jazz influences to the band. Their sound experiments differentiated them from their contemporaries and most audiences didn't quite know what to make of them. Fifty Foot Hose's music leans more towards White Noise , Silver Apples , and especially United States of America, rather than to flower power movement. After only one album, the proto- cyber psych outfit passed as quickly as they came. "Switch (180g-transparent (MUSIC ON MOVLP2772C LP blue vinyl)" Available now. "Switch" is the tenth studio album by Dutch rock band Golden Earring, released in 1975 as the follow-up of the band's international breakthrough album "Moontan". FLOW TRIO WITH JOE "Winter Garden" (ESP-DISK) ESPDISK5040CD CD MCPHEE March 26 street date. From the producer's liner notes: "It is an interesting question how old 'free jazz' is. At some point, even a theme and a plan became optional. In the ESP-Disk' catalog, 'Taneou' on the Giuseppi Logan Quartet's eponymous album sounds like this approach of complete freedom starting from scratch; it was recorded on November 11, 1964. Joe McPhee, in 1967, appeared on Clifford Thornton's album Freedom and Unity, so his recording career covers 53 of those 56 years, 95% of the approach's history. Each succeeding decade found another player on this album joining the confraternity: Downs in 1976, Morris in 1983, and Belogenis in 1993. By that method of counting, there are 159 years of collective experience being heard on this album. Credits: Joe McPhee - tenor saxophone; Louie Belogenis - tenor and soprano saxophones; Joe Morris - bass; Charles Downs - drums. Cover painting: "tree bark & berries (for c.h.) #5," 2004, by Yuko Otomo. Recorded on January 11, 2020 by Jim Clouse at Park West Studios, Brooklyn NY. Produced by Steve Holtje. Founded in 1967 by three of European free music's leading lights -- pianist Misha Mengelberg, drummer Han Bennink, and saxophonist and clarinetist Willem Breuker -- Amsterdam's Instant Composers Pool (ICP) was one of the most important vehicles for experimentation and improvisation in the history of creative music. Based on twenty years of deep research, Incipient ICP (1966-71) picks up the story just before the group's foundation, with previously unreleased recordings of groups led by Mengelberg in 1966. The only tracks in this two-disc set that have been commercially released come from studio sessions in 1967, featuring a mid-sized band with German trumpeter Manfred Schoof as special guest. The deluxe package sports contemporaneous photos of the players by Pieter Boersma. MAISTAH APHRICA "Meow" (BLACK BS062LP LP March 26 street date. A new ship of fools sails on Bolombia lands! These strange people seem to celebrate the whole jazz universe and African idioms, but they've never been in Africa. The great continent, more than physical, is a mental place of encounter and psychedelic skids. Neurotic and schizoid sorcerers, a furious wind drags them towards the total effervescence of the groove: an unprecedented cauldron of dangerous substances, hybrid styles and influences mixed with secret recipe. Their music is an explosive bubble of expressions, a feverish, impulsive, and unstoppable ritual. A cosmic attitude, such as Heliocentrics or Embryo , marries the majestic and floating sounds of synths and psych organs, acidified by toxic dub sparks, and deadly funk forays. A crazy horn section travels without maps from Sun-Ra and Ethiopian echoes, hard-bop reminiscences, to sudden and virulent Balkanisms, making this soup an indecipherable combination of flavors. Since its first iteration in 1979, Vario, the brainchild of Günter Christmann, has appeared in some fifty different versions. Vario 34 first performed in October, 1993, bringing Christmann and his contemporary, brilliant percussionist Paul Lovens with saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, live-electronics specialist Thomas Lehn, and bassist Alexander Frangenheim. This quintet performed together for the third time in concerts on successive nights in Berlin and Christmann's hometown of Hannover in August, 2018, two gigs that were beautifully recorded. Vario 34-3 shows the strength of Christmann's concept -- a Vario ensemble is neither ad hoc nor a "working group," it's a slowly evolving organism. Kamal Keila was among the first artist we met in Sudan during our two trips to Khartoum and Omdurman last year. He is one of the key figures of the Sudanese jazz scene that was a vital part of the musical culture in Sudan from the mid 1960s until the islamist revolution in the late 1980s. When we meet Kamal he luckily presented us with two mold covered studio reels. Each tape included five tracks. One with English lyrics and another with Arabic ones. Musically you can hear the influence of neighboring Ethiopia much more than on other Sudanese recordings of the time, as well as references to Fela and American funk and soul. His lyrics, at least when he sings in English which gave him more freedom from censorship, are very political. A brave statement in the political climate of Sudan of the last decades, preaching for the unity of Sudan, peace between Muslims and Christians and singing the blues about the fate of war orphans called “Shmasha“. A note inside one of the boxes specified the track titles, durations and the fact that the sessions were recorded on the 12th of august 1992. Both sessions stand as a hearable testament how Kamal Keila stuck to a sound aesthetic from decades ago, while incorporating current events into his lyrics. MORRICONE, ENNIO "A Fistful Of Dollars & (KLIMT) MJJ413CR LP For A Few Dollars More (oxblo" March 5 street date. This is one of the most memorable film soundtracks ever, a rival for that other great example of the art `The Good, The Bad, The Ugly'. Sergio Leone's direction was a breath of fresh air, and his use of music in his films was an integral part of his style and the film successes. "For a Few Dollars More" is the natural progression from that movie, with the addition of a third protagonist - Lee Van Cleef - who joins the two actors: a triad that made history for another masterpiece Sergio Leone's masterpiece. Ennio Morricone's music is equally important. The Maestro here chooses a 'poor' registry, consisting of folk instruments such as ocarina, Jew's harp and chimes, respectively used to accompany the entry stage of the three main actors. But there are, as usual, the contributions of Alessandro Alessandroni and his Cantori Moderni choir, for an incredibly exciting final result.

9MS "Pleats" (SQUAMA) SQM008LP LP March 26 street date. 9ms is the duo of Simon Popp and Florian König. On their wide-ranging debut album Pleats the tech-savvy drummers offer grooves from the dubbier realms of world music and krautrock -- some meditative and light, some thick as wall and steady as a clock. The album was recorded live in a large wooden hall in the Bavarian Alps with only three microphones. Using various infrared and magnetic field sensors, Popp and König were able to translate their movements into control voltage, which they then used to trigger and tweak synthesizers and a myriad of effects. A way for two humans to become one with their mystic machinery. Includes poster and download code. ALCI "Delayed Control (2LP)" (NERVMUSIC) NM027EP LP March 26 street date. The works of Philip Glass are reflected and refracted in a myriad of ways by some of the most renowned electronic artists alive, making for a blissful, multi-dimensional listening experience. With Glassforms (IF 1059CD/LP, 2020), Max Cooper and Bruce Brubaker set out on an intimate, nuanced exploration of the works of Philip Glass. When approaching his remix, Donato Dozzy tapped into an inspiration to create something new rather than just reworking it, which is one of the core motives that emanates from Glassforms . CHESWORTH, DAVID "Industry & Leisure" (BFE) BFE063 LP March 19 street date. David Chesworth is an Australian-based interdisciplinary artist and composer. Known for his experimental and at times minimalist music, he has worked solo, in post-punk groups (Essendon Airport, Whadya Want?), electronic music, contemporary ensembles and experimental performance. Originally released in 1983 as a cassette and an EP containing three tracks, this is a remastered version of "Industry & Leisure" including a couple of unreleased tracks. Electronic Post Punk and Synth pop waves travel in circles, spiralling around solid blocks of underground experimental rhythmics. A proper treasure in the hidden realm of 80s experimentation, some of the most brilliant occult songlines of music innovation of its era show in these songs. It has the marks of a domestic piece of art where you can hear the anxious tension between the mechanical production of goods, and the need to consume pleasure in your free time; both as unsatisfying, both as devoid of essence. COIL "Theme From The Gay (MUSIQUE MPD018ORGLP LP Man's Guide To Safer Sex (orange " March 26 street date. Orange vinyl in orange sleeve. Musique Pour La Danse present Coil 's unreleased soundtrack for the VHS only, pre-internet, sexual education documentary entitled The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex released in 1992. Members for this project were John Balance , Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson , and Danny Hyde . The OST, to quote John Balance's interview for Compulsion Online, "is [a] slightly new age-y, progressive house type thing". Another way to approach it is as a delightful collection of Balearic beats, smoking jazz not far removed from Badalamenti 's work with David Lynch , somewhat of an ambient house album for your home listening and early morning sunrise dances, Coil style. Taken from the original masters provided by Danny Hyde, The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex features a new sexy edit of the main theme. Bonus tracks "Nasa-Arab" and "Omlagus Garfungiloops" are taken from the 1992 CD-only release Stolen And Contaminated Songs , both being original versions of the radically reworked (for the OST) "Nasa-Arab 2" and "Exploding Frogs" in order to balance the whole album and extend the listening pleasure. EXAEL "Flowered Knife (SODA GONG) SODA006LP LP Shadows" March 26 street date. Under their Exael moniker, Berlin-based producer Naemi makes highly imaginative music that can be seen as a study in contrasts -- precise, hyper-detailed drum programming sits atop fuzzy, organic pools of ambience, virtuosic futurism is wrung from a falling apart laptop. Following a string of excellent releases, both solo and in group settings, Flowered Knife Shadows features eight productions that feel like the full realization of the project, demonstrating the artist's range and knack for vivid, pressurized productions. From the dexterous, chops-flexing "Koch Metish" to the sanguine "Reality's Sweetheart", Naemi's clarity of vision and instantly recognizable aesthetic are delivered here with remarkable potency. Frost on the window, whispers in the dark. Mastered by Kassian Troyer at Dubplates & Mastering. Artwork by Alex McCullough . Follows releases on Motion Ward, Experiences Ltd. and Huerco S. ' West Mineral Ltd. Edition of 300; includes download code. FUKUDA, KOSEI "Ruten+ (2LP)" (REITEN) RTN013LP LP March 26 street date. After two series of conceptual EPs and the intricate experimental "Enso" Festival compilation, Kosei Fukuda returns with a full-length solo project, and his debut album. This marks his thirteenth release on the Reiten label, a platform he created to showcase his music and a more general, experimental aesthetic agenda. In principle, the two albums called Ruten- and Ruten+ are meant to represent the principle of ying and yang, the two elemental forces and the eternal cycle of energy. Regardless of metaphorical intent though, the music moves within one universe of downtempo, ambient, and drone, combining the palpable beats (rhythmic pattern) with the atmospheric backgrounds (harmonic flow). GUEDRA GUEDRA "Vexillology" (ON THE OTCR013LP LP March 26 street date. Moroccan producer Guedra Guedra presents debut album Vexillology, an elevation of tribal consciousness and futurism from underground musical universes. The album offers listeners an immersive experience made from hypnotic and rhythmic arrangements, rooted in ancient culture. Referring as much to Sub- Saharan as to North African cultures, Guedra Guedra presents a synthesis of his pan-African appreciation and a full immersion into the traditional rhythms of these lands, especially within the Berber culture which is found in countries such as his home of Morocco, and across Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Northern Mali, Northern Niger, and beyond. The body of work is a complete celebration of cultural roots and future bass, bubbling in hotbeds of the global underground. Guedra Guedra is synonymously known for his ability to explore tribal rhythms and instruments of the past, as well as dancefloor innovations from contemporary underground scenes. For Vexillology , and in true Guedra Guedra style, a myriad of immersive recording techniques were applied. The album is built upon a multitude of field recordings capturing live and "in the moment" cultural happenings, encountered in everyday life, at tribal festivities and also on his travels. By also using video in his field recordings, Guedra Guedra enables himself to encapsulate the heat and entirety of the moment, applying this "moment" and evolving it into his productions. KOSS "Ancient Rain (2LP)" (MULE MUSIQ) MUSIQ268LP LP March 26 street date. Mule Musiq present a reissue of Koss's Ancient Rain, originally released on CD in 2008. Romantically, otherworldly floating introspective ambient: Kuniyuki Takahashi, one of Japan's most prolific contemporary musicians, was always an artist for deep sensual expressions. Especially under his anonym Koss he explores profound electronic ambient sounds enlarged with ingredients of house, minimal, IDM, and what he calls a "new oriental sound", a style that traces ancient Asian music traditions into modern realms. LAW334 "LAW334" (KHEMIA) KHEMIA019EP 12"EP March 26 street date. In this, his inaugural release, LAW334 welcomes the listener to his musical language through four tracks. "Arco" and "Wire Hangers" are two synth dominated techno cuts that bookend a more experimental offering in Veils; an abstracted exercise in audio processing samples. In the closing track "Panspermia", Choronzon takes the wheel to LAW334's engines in an ecstatic trance through a distorted desert landscape. The next release in Lapsus Records "Perennial" series is from veteran producer Lee Norris , also known as Metamatics , the pseudonym under which he has spent more than two decades creating melodic IDM and sophisticated electro. Norris is an artist who warrants his cult following with an extensive catalog and countless monikers, including his main work as Metamatics and alternative projects Norken , Nacht Plank , Ishqamatic , and Autumn Of Communion . This unflagging artist with an enviable track record behind him has released material on labels such as Delsin, Hydrogen Dukebox, Dot, Numbers and Clear, as well as running his own record labels Neo Ouija, ...txt, XTT Recordings and Nagual. His seminal EP series 01 , 02 , 03 , and 04 was originally released between 1997 and 1998 on the now defunct but influential Clear label. Compiled as A Metamatics Production , the tracks breathed fresh air into the global IDM scene and were comprised of crystal-clear futuristic sounds, flirting with complex and funky drum & bass that carried both UK and Detroit influences, a true masterpiece. More than twenty years since its original release in 1997, Lapsus Records present the British producer's original debut album A Metamatics Production , released in full and on vinyl for the first time. TENTENKO "An Antworten EP" (TAL) TAL021EP 12"EP March 26 street date. An Antworten EP showcases two new tracks from Tokyo based producer Tentenko alongside revisited and reworked versions by Tolouse Low Trax , MM/KM , and Nika Son. Tolouse Low Trax toils a tuff sort of hypnotizing Crepuscule-hip-hop minimalism. His "Spray Sky Mix" is faithfully in tune with the original Tentenko material whilst still bearing his most explicit rhythmic signature. MM/KM (Mix Mup and Kassem Mosse) have over the years consolidated a strong identity of non-conformist dance music. When MM/KM stressed that they would rather answer (Antworten) the sounds of Tentenko than doing a mere remix, this approach led not only to their "Get Version" but also ended up supplying the title of this EP. Nika Son's "Mizu-Iro Morph" is exploring a more narrative based dramaturgy of sounds that imbue the original track with a duskier cineastic appeal. Tentenko is a Tokyo-based electronic music producer. Her career began in 2013 when she joined the mainstream idol group BiS. Immediately after her departure from BIS in 2014 she commenced work on her solo project under her artist name Tentenko. Since then, she has radically reinvented her music away from glossy J-pop towards weird and industrial rooted dancefloor. Printed inner sleeve; includes download code; edition of 400. After working together on Armand Hammer's critically acclaimed 2020 LP "Shrines", Moor Mother and woods released the song "Furies" for the Adult Swim single series in July. A whirl of interweaving allegories spun over producer Willie Green's hypnotic flip of a Sons of Kemet sample, "Furies" was the burning arrow that both artists followed, the first crack of thunder in a blackening sky. "BRASS" sees both artists joined by an eclectic array of friends, family, and legends- in some cases all three. REINHARD, SAMUEL "Interior" (PRASENS PE023LP LP March 26 street date. On Interior , Swiss composer Samuel Reinhard excavates intricate resonances at the periphery of our attention. Across four movements, Reinhard follows a process whereby he layers and loops fragments of piano improvisations. Yet, Interior complicates its own systematicity by using samples that are not only recognizable as piano notes, but as live recordings of a piano being played. Reinhard composes from traces both analog and digital: you can hear static hiss and clicks, but also the soft trace of a finger pressing a key or the shuffle of a body shifting position. Interior asks you to think about where you are, and how close you are willing to look, feel, and listen. Over the course of the four movements sounds return, familiar but transformed. What sounds like repetition is something more like accumulation, a thickening of space. Whether regarded at intimate range or from a distance, these compositions reveal more the longer we linger in the presence of each. Artwork photography by Jeff Ross . Edition of 200. BAKER, GINGER & "Live Bremen 1970 (ROX VOX) RVLPC2171 LP GRAHAM BOND (180g-blue vinyl)" March 12 street date. Back together for the first time since their powerhouse days in the Graham Bond Organisation with Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Graham Bond join forces again in Ginger Baker's Air Force. Having unknowingly and single-handedly invented jazz-rock fusion, Bond was not only revered by all, but was a widely admired and respected figure, but one that was also deeply troubled. Coupled with Baker's explosive talent and transatlantic fame, this was going to be an incredible meeting of minds. However, when Baker's co-operative project came to an abrupt end in 1971, it would also signal the tragic and untimely death of Bond, aged just 36. Jimmy James and The Vagabonds recorded numerous sessions at the request of Brian Matthew and remain one of Britain's best-loved soul bands of the 1960s. Deeply affected by the drug-induced deaths of Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry, Young recorded an album specifically inspired by the incidents, "Tonight's The Night". The album's dark tone and rawness led Reprise to delay its release and Young had to pressure them for two years before they would do so; it finally came out on in June 1975. By late 1973, Young and The Flyers were touring and performing songs, as yet unreleased, later to be included on "Tonight's The Night". On November 15th the ensemble performed at Queen's College in Flushing, New York, for a show which remains quite staggering and is featured on this vinyl record in its entirety.
