On one side, at the top, is the bronze plaque Description: detailing the restoration. Below this is an elaborate cartouche, containing a criss-cross pattern in the centre, supported by two cherubs, one on each side. Below the cartouche, in a frame, is the coat of arms of Pitcairn of Dreghorn: a shield decorated with three lozenges, surmounted by a helmet topped by a six-pointed star amongst a circle of clouds. Page 1 of 2 PMSA NRP: Work Record Ref: EDIN0343 14-Jun-11 © PMSA RAC Person or event commemorated: History of The monument was erected in memory of David Pitcairn of Dreghorn, and was restored in 1864 by the Commission architect John Nicol. Mr Wilkie of Juniper Green executed the mason work, and Mr R. Nicol engraved : the brass plate. The restoration was paid for by Pitcairn's descendants, including the Earl of Minto, Baroness Dunfermline and Countess Russell. Description: Above the shield is a helmet surmounted by a lion rampant. To either side of the shield is long-leaved foliage.
