VFP COOKING CLUB VISITS GIANT COOKING SCHOOL n Barbara Davidson ON TUESDAY. May 19 ladies of the Villas at Five Ponds Cooking Club made a field trip to the Giant Cooking School in Willow Grove. Chef Dan Keebler and nutritionist Mary Ann Moylan welcomed us to a wonderful afternoon of “Spicing Up Your Veggies.” While Dan was pre- paring our first course, a spicy Thai noodle salad, Mary Ann spoke about various topics concerning diet and health. Did you know, for instance, that salt is salt whether its from the sea or kosher; it has the same amount of sodium and is bad for you. If you’re our age,1500 mg per day should be the limit (oops). She spoke about and demonstrated several products we could use instead of salt. She went on to explain that the older we get the more we require flavor enhancing herbs and spices because our taste buds are not what they used to be (fancy that)! Meanwhile, Chef Dan served a colorful entree of mixed vegetables with wild rice. Notable were the asparagus with a tasty mustard sauce. While we ate, Mary Ann answered our many questions and provided us with a lot of literature including what spices have the most antioxidants (good)! and which oils have the most polyunsaturated fats (bad)! For dessert, carrot cake and ice cream. Who would have guessed one could be so full and satisfied with only veggies for lunch? We left a lot

The Muldawers will share fascinating stories about his life and his music, such as: Why God Bless America was published 20 years after it was written? How many encores were performed the first time Blue Skies was presented, and why it was included in a Rogers and Hart show? Why Irving Berlin used only the black keys on the piano, and much more.
