Big Bad Kev, Baby Driver, Klaus Felkner and a host of supporters partied on into the early hours of 1 January 2012.
The Dusty Radio presenters wish Coober Pedy listeners a fantastic new year and promise that 2012 will be better than ever at Dusty Radio, your local radio station on 104.5 FM. “We at Dusty want to hear from you with news, ideas, requests and interviews from locals”, said presenter ‘Baby Driver”.

“We will be having a "what’s on this month in Coober Pedy" as well as our regular shows.”
“January will see Australia day updates....February we’ll be airing Valentine’s day requests, (let Coober Pedy know who you love with their favourite song).... March will have a St Patrick's day special and all that's Irish, and so on throughout the year.”

Page 6 Coober Pedy Regional Times Thursday 19 January 2012 Lions Club donation of radios saved lives for 25 years In December 1978, just in time for Christmas, the Coober Pedy Lion's Club presented a cheque for $9,000 to the Mine Rescue Squad (MRS) to purchase radio communications equipment.
The money was proceeds of the generous support of Coober Pedy's opal mining and business community and the hard work of the Lion's volunteers of that period.
The radio communication equipment supplied by the Lion’s Club was operational in the Coober Pedy Opal Fields for about 25 years and the "big cheque", still hangs on the wall in the rescue headquarters.
This week Lion’s Club President Kyle Hay visited the Mine Rescue/SES headquarters to see the big cheque which the previous Lions had presented to the squad.
Kyle said she was inspired by generous spirit of the opal community and the commitment of the Lion’s Club in those early days and said she was hoping to get out into the community more in 2012 to gauge the needs of equally worthy causes.
“The hefty cheque for $9,000 presented in 1978 was certainly an inspiring benchmark to aim for”, said Kyle.
Mine Rescue Squad veteran Andy Sheils who was on hand, told Kyle, “I remember the night the cheque was presented to the MRS by Lion’s President Don Mazzone - there were over 100 Lions and Mine Rescue Squad members present in the Opal Inn lounge. The Mine Rescue Squad had been operating since 1972 at that stage.
