WWW.MILLHILLFORUM.ORG.UK 8 HOUSING • Barnet’s Housing Consultation live. Susan Connolly submitted our response! Our work on the housing policy for the neighbourhood plan impacts on other themes within the plan in the following ways: Transport - the impact of housing developments on local roads and the demand for public transport are well-understood. Planning new developments offers opportunities to address local transport issues and the movement of traffic, cyclists and pedestrians around the area. (current deficit) Community Together / Integrated Infrastructure- when developing new housing thought must be given to the impact on the local community and the opportunity should be taken to provide community facilities, such as schools, nurseries, doctor's surgeries and other health facilities, community and youth facilities. Employment / Town Centre - New developments can support the local economy, our town centre and our other local shopping areas. New business might be attracted to the area as part of new developments, creating employment opportunities for households in the area. Housing developments can also create an opportunity to offer homes designed to support home working. In each of these ways these themes are closely linked. Green spaces - Housing developments need to contribute towards new green spaces and enhance the public realm. Developments should promote nature conservation and bio-diversity and provide new trees. Equally existing green spaces need to be maintained and retained for the use of the growing number of households in the MHNF area.
