Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Brings Motorcycle Stars to Budds Creek National Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Brings Motorcycle Stars to Budds Creek National Posted by TBN(Staff) On 07/29/2019 Morgantown, W.VA - July 30, 2019 – The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, will make its annual visit to the shadow of our nation’s capital of Washington, D.C., with the summer tradition that is the GEICO Motorcycle Budds Creek National. On Saturday, August 17, the world’s most talented riders and the most prestigious off-road motorcycle championship on the planet will converge at Southern Maryland’s Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville for the 31st running of this legendary event. Budds Creek has been a part of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship since 1989, thrilling fans with the finest motocross racing on the planet for three decades. Thanks to such a deep and storied tradition, the Budds Creek National has become the longest running and premier motorsports event in the Washington, D.C., area. The Budds Creek track is notorious for the challenge it presents riders, testing their mental and physical fortitude with a series of elevation changes, off-camber turns, and exceptionally challenging obstacles. Only the strongest riders find success at Budds Creek and because of that demanding nature it was selected to host the 2007 Motocross of Nations, the biggest race in the world affectionately known as the “Olympics of Motocross.” With that distinction, Budds Creek will forever be enshrined in the annals of motocross history and continues to add to its legacy each and every summer. Since 1972 the most talented riders across the globe have laid it all on the line for a shot at victory in what is arguably the most physically and mentally demanding championship in all of motorsports. This season’s 47th running of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will center around the back-to-back title defense of Colorado native Eli Tomac, who won the 450 Class Championship last season. After years on the verge of being the sport’s next big superstar, Tomac is now the biggest name in motocross and will carry the weight of the highly coveted number 1 plate throughout the 2019 season. Tomac’s title defense will surely face a stiff challenge from an international contingent of challengers, as Frenchman Marvin Musquin, German Ken Roczen, and the American duo of Blake Baggett and Jason Anderson are all poised to unseat Tomac’s position atop the sport. This summer-long battle will take a field of the world’s best riders across the U.S., visiting 11 different states over the course of 12 weekends from May to August. While baseball has long been considered America’s pastime, the sport of motocross and its 47 years of thrilling fans across the country is also a beloved summer tradition with its own collection of the boys of summer. This gathering of world class talent features some of the fittest, most talented, and daring athletes on the planet that push their physical and mental limits each and every weekend on the world’s roughest tracks and toughest weather conditions. A total of 40 riders will do battle on some of America’s most hallowed grounds in racing, each with the same common goal – winning. While serious business takes place just a half hour away in Washington, D.C., the area around Budds Creek is pure relaxation. The neighboring Patuxent River and nearby Chesapeake Bay draw travelers of all kinds, and the ideal summer weather sets this race as the right time to explore the area. Although the track itself looks like fun, it gets brutally serious at the top level of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, which is perhaps fitting for a track so close to the nation’s capital. Budds Creek offers classic American motocross, with the perfect combination of hills, jumps, corners and deep, tacky soil. The racing usually stays close, as passes come down to who can brake a little harder into a turn, or scrub a little harder over a jump. It’s an all-a-round layout, as if some of the best components of the other 11 championship tracks were dropped into a valley to produce an all-around marvel. From the right spots atop the hillsides, fans can see it all, as well. Any fan can make a weekend out of this one, with the ability to check out historic D.C. and the beautiful Maryland countryside, before sitting back for some of the most intense motocross action anywhere. This place is part business, part fun, and all American.
