Port Overview
Mersin International Port is ranked the 91st among the 120 biggest ports in the world, it is situated on Mersin Bay, a broad body of water that is open southward to the Mediterranean Sea. It is the main port for the Eastern Mediterranean Region's industry and agriculture. The port's rail link and its easy access to the international highway makes it an ideal transit port for trade to the Middle East.
Mersin port is one of the largest container ports in the South of Turkey, serving a wide industrial hinterland in the region with a significant contribution to the country's foreign trade. It is connected to all main ports around the world through over 20 shipping lines making regular calls.

With its modern infrastructure and equipment, efficient cargo handling, vast storage areas and its proximity to the free trade zone, Mersin is the most important port in the East Mediterranean. The facilities at the port handle general cargo, containers, dry and liquid bulk and ro-ro. The port is protected by two breakwaters of 2.800 m. and 1.525 m. long. The depth at the entrance is 17,3 m. and is 15,8 m inside the breakwaters.

Mersin International Port Management which was established as a partnership between PSA International and Akfen Holding, took over T.C.D.D. Mersin Port Management for a period of 36 years on May 11 2007.
PSA, has an international port management network around the globe. Besides having an extensive experience of port management, PSA has become a brand in which clients around the world trust.
Akfen Holding, which has started its operations in 1976, operates primarily in the fields of airport and sea port investment and management, among other fields such as energy and various infrastructure investments and the development of real estate investment projects.

General Cargo Facilities
General Cargo handling capacity at Mersin International Port, is 1 million tons per year. There are 13 berths width a total length of 2.125 m and with alongside depths of 6 to 13,5 m. The berths and yard behind are well equipped with modern and high-performance cranes and handling equipment.

RO-RO FACILITIES: The port has ro-ro facilities.
RAIL FERRY FACILITIES: There is a rail ferry terminal at the port. The terminal has 253 m. quay length and 12 m. depth alongside. It has 10 km. manoeuvring lines behind the quays for marshalling wagons.
General Cargo loading and discharging services can be provided on 15 different berths, out of which 5 have direct railway connections. Thus import/export cargoes can be berthed on berths with railway connections and can be loaded directly onto wagons.
Bagged, Big Bagged, Bale, Palletized, Singed, Caged, Cased, Barreled cargoes are among the types of general cargo handled at the port where all loading /discharging storage and terminal services are provided in 3 shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in warehouses and open storage areas.
Additionally, the following cargoes can be loaded and discharged: IBC liquid cargo tanks, sheet and rolled steel, cased, bundle or rubble marbles, attached ingots and block metals, attached profile pipes, cased glass products, iron bars, wire rod, iron products, paper bobbins, rolled cargoes, vehicle tires, wrapped/bale cargoes (hay, straw, cotton), boxed cargoes, lumber, timber and rails.

Page 5 As a result of the ports extensive facilities where services are provided to all types of cargoes including containers, general cargoes, project cargoes, Ro- Ro, dry bulk and liquid bulk, passenger services and direct dry bulk handling services from ship to container, MIP is the largest multi-purpose port in Turkey with the capacity to provide all port services in the same port area. Accommodating 21 berths, the port is able to conduct loading-discharging services to 30 vessels simultaneously, depending on the lengths of the vessels. An average volume of 30 million tons of cargo per year is handled at Mersin International Port.
Bulk Cargo Facilities
Loading and discharging performance up to 20,000 tons per day can be provided to post-panamax vessels size of up to 60,000 tons at Mersin International Port, one of the most important dry bulk terminals in the East Mediterranean region.
Dry bulk cargoes are handled such as: cereals, pulses, cement, clinker, coal, petrocoke, gypsum, salt, fertilizer, sand, chrome, iron ore etc.
Main Storage Terminal
Total port area 993.908 sqm open storage areas 582.230 sq.m. and covered storage areas 31.855 sqm, and for container storage areas of 251.350 sq.m. Silo 100.000 tons capacity.
Another facility available at the terminal is the provision of reefer facilities for refrigerated containers.
