Safety Key Points: Use appropriate safety gear at all times. Ensure all apparatus exhausts are facing away from the portable water tank(s). Do not engage primer for longer than 30 seconds. Minimize the amount of time the pump is engaged without introducing water. Use the hard suction hose supports to ensure the hard suction hose is off the inflatable collar of the portable water tank.

Title: Drafting from a Portable Water File No: Apparatus Tank(s).

Procedure Captain Engineer Firefighter 1. Spot apparatus at drafting site and X set chock. 2. Remove the proper length of hard X X suction hose from the apparatus. 3. Attach the low level strainer to X X the hard suction hose. 4. Erect the hard suction hose X support between the water tank and the 2 ½” suction intake on the apparatus. 5. Close the tank to pump valve. X 6. Connect a 2 ½” double male adapter X to the 2 ½” suction intake. 7. Connect the hard suction hose to X X the 2 ½” double male adapter on the 2 ½” suction intake. 8. Place the hard suction hose with X X the low level strainer into the water. *SEE NOTE 1 BELOW* 9. Ensure that all hose connections X are tight.

Title: Drafting from the Portable File No: Apparatus Water Tank(s).

Procedure Captain Engineer Firefighter 10. Ensure that all drains/valves are X closed and discharge openings are capped. 11. Engage pump. X 12. Open the suction intake valve. X 13. Set the engine RPM between 1000 X and 1200. 14. Pull the primer until all the air has X been removed from the pump. 15. Slowly open the tank fill and fill X the apparatus water tank.

*NOTE 1* Use the hard suction hose support to keep the weight of the hose from pushing down on the inflatable collar of the water tank.

For training purposes a discharge valve can be slowly opened to allow the Engineer to set the proper operating pressure.
